A landmass or water way existing there doesn't mean people of the past got it right on maps. Look at old maps of the world, they look way off. There's no way of getting a bird's eye view and knowing where each geographic location is relative to each other. People back then have no way of reliably measuring long distances. Information also traveled slowly and not particularly far, so while some may know the geography there, those making the map do not.

This documentary series is certainly awesome and informative, but Mr Kemp's correct pronunciation of the names of the places involved is simply icing on the cake. It's music to my ears to hear you use the "s" in Malaysia and Indonesia correctly. Heck, your way of pronouncing Kuala Lumpur is spot on, too. Keep up the great job, sir. 👌
I watched the first 2 episodes and now this one. My thought was why didn't the military ship retake the ship Saldanha. In the beginning of this video at 6:40 that is exactly what they are doing. How come England warship have sympathy for the Somali pirates?
They explained in the first episode that (at that time) pirates didn't hurt the crew taken hostage, they just asked for a ransom and then set them free. So, the international community didn't want to escalate the conflict by trying to recover the ship by force and rescue the crew. In this episode, it was revealed that the americans and french actually did rescued the crew of one of their pirated ships by force and since then, just as the british and the international community feared, piracy has escalated and, as you can see in the last interviews, pirates are now willing to hurt their hostages, especially if they are americans or french.

The one common trait across the globe , as highlighted in his journey, is the GLARING disparity between the HAVES n the HAVE NOTS…
So the MMEA can have a special task force to retake a ship but the British Royal Navy can’t????
It will also disturb diplomatic relations.
MMEA is probably a bit less concerned when it comes to (civilian) casualties... In Europe the courts seem to favour the criminals mostly these days...
