  • When you want to explain what Airsoft is to someone who never heard of it, the easiest way is to compare it with paintball. But do Paintball and Airsoft have so much in common? With the help of Jeppe, one of our employees and former Paintball player, we tried to figure that out.

    I started with paintball, (just backyard stuff) Then moved into airsoft. (Full time skirmish player) I always tell my airsoft friends that when you look at the two, Paintball is more fun to play and gets your adrenaline pumping much higher; while Airsoft is more tactical and affordable. I also believe that the speedball play style can dominate most play styles in airsoft. I'll always choose airsoft over paintball, but I'll never underestimate or hate on paintball.

    Novy's hitting the nail on the head in the last conclusion... "... is a sniper rifle really accurate? no! Is a tri-shot shotgun effective on the field? no! But people still do it because it's fun..." .. so true.
    Some airsofters is a bit paint-ball in their attitude and style - like speedballers... but 90% of us is only there to have fun pretending we're soldiers. It's adults & kids playing war together.. beautiful
    What I like best about airsoft is : all of it... the gameplay, the realism in gun designs, the nerdism about tuning and upgrading, the mil-sim aspects, the gear, the videos, the cool people you meet, the exercise - it has got everything a hobby needs... I'm even one of the lucky few to have a job in a airsoft store. So I can live off my hobby as well... life is great.

I dont like the competetive side of paintball, but i enjoy the play in the forest and the urban areas with my M4 looking marker and my red Dot at the Top. And I'm playing Magfed, too so it's even more similar to Airsoft I think.. But as I mentioned I really like the discussion.

    As a guy who played a lot of sports in high school track, cross country, football, trap shooting, and even a bit of competitive and casual paintball I always loved paintball for the fact that it was a lot like the other sports I played in that we ran plays we had positions that we played and it was like playing other sports but now as an adult I play airsoft almost exclusively and as captain of a milsim team I bring a lot of experience from paintball among other sports and it definetly did allow me to bring this sort of new playstyle ive taken on the best team in our state with a turnout of 4 of my guys and some rental players against what was literally the best players in the area both in gear and skill. I noticed that every player on the enemy team played as individuals and knowing strenght and weaknesses of my own team I used about 3 rental players where I would put one advanced airsofter and they actually where able to hold down albiet fortified positions that where vital to our strategy and they allowed us to make plays knowing we wouldnt get flanked and in that area it was a bit of a paintball strategy the result was the enemy team moving on our rental players backed up by one of my men and myself with my other two guys who showed up that day running an absolutely disgusting flanking manuever which wiped almost all of them. Between the tactics and movement training my guys and i recieved in the army and my sports and leadership experience with what my men can bring to the table weve been one of the only teams ive ever seen play with that level of teamwork and it does in fact seem to be incredibly effective against the best players when they dont work together as a unit

    I started playing paintball back in the 90s and it was recreational paintball. Pretty much where airsoft is now. We used to have snipers with ghillie suits pump guns that were pretty accurate. As I got better I was asked to be in a tournament team. It was a very different way of playing. Super fast and team driven. We used to scrimmage with some very well known teams who are still around now like team dinasty and Ironman. These teams make an amazing amount of money and fully sponsored. They are pro players that play all around the world. People still play recreational paintball(recball) which can be cheaper then tournament. There are many types of guns in paintball depending on what kind of player you want to be. I loved playing paintball because you hear the paint wizzing by you and you get to see when you light someone up. But now that I am older and have a son interested in playing, I’m thinking of trying airsoft out. I’ve been to a few fields here in California and the airsoft crowd reminds me of paintball back in the 90s. Not a bad thing. Hope this helps out. One thing, what’s a good gun to start off with?

    They are both fun hobbies adding their own unique forms of game play, tactics, and fun. I'm an airsofter that has played just some pick up games of paintball and I can see why you could like both. I personally like airsoft better because of the bigger fields/ number of players you can have per team. But I can see the perk of going to a paint ball game with your 5 to 10 friends and having enough for a team or 2. Hope they can grow together and share communities so both can prosper.

    I love magfed paintball. It's more realistic than speedball. And you must be careful when you shoot because you have only 20 balls in magazine. It's true that airsoft have more realistic weapons but magfed guns in paintball are very close to airsoft. For example Tiberius T15

    • @extec101
      @extec101 5 лет назад +1

      got the exact same thinking as you magfed is fun and ther is limited amount of shoots in each magazine and need more planing not to run out of ammo in midle of a fight as to airsoft that got "cheater" hi cap mags with almost unlimited capacity of shoots for most of ther guns.
      sure paintball got boxloaders and hoppers that can compare to hi cap mags but in paintball "limited paint" and magfed start to take on real hard and for woodsball magfed fit as good as airsoft for the tactical military feel in the game.

Another thing is paintball has WAY less salty people because it’s Easier to tell if someone’s been hit and to call their hits.

    I know I'm abit late on saying this. Funny side is that they talk about only the Speedball area of paintball, paintball haves woodsball, and also Magfed only games. With the hold thing of no "campers" in paintball, there are rounds called First strike rounds, these rounds make a magfed marker a sniper in a layout.

  • @Unsettlingarts
    @Unsettlingarts 4 года назад

    I like airsoft/paintball because it helps simulate fire arms combat. I prefer paintball slightly over airsoft because I can have my paintball markers set up for home defense. So my set up for airsoft is an m4 aeg and, hopefully I can get a polar star in it and, a gbb 1911. Though the weight of my gbb pistol is considerably less than my firearm, I like the familiar feel in a game. My tipx however has the same rounds in the magazine as I load in my firearm. Even though I'm probably never going to use firststrike rounds, my tipx can load and fire them. I'm planning on getting a tmc to continue with the familiar m4 platform in mag fed paintball and again, in the event of home invasion, pepper balls are a good deterrent before the real steel.

    Nice Video. and nice discussion about it.. i play tournament paintball for 14 years now. i love to compete with other players and teams and everything beside the field.. friendships you make and so on..
    i guess its quite the same in airsoft.
    in my opinion the big difference between airsoft and tournament paintball is that if you want to perform good as a team you have to do lot of practice and when it comes to competition hmm well we play 5 on 5 and a team has got more than 5 members.. so the 5 players who performed the best in practice will play as starting 5 in tournament.. so there s many pressure on every player in the team to perform as good as possible so that you ll get your gametime in tournament. so it needs a lot of passion, money, time to keep in shape.
    in airsoft its not about to promote into the next division or a place on the podeum..

    Love this video guys.
    I have played paintball on so many occasions in so many serarios.
    But if i had to choose I would play airsoft, as I sold it when it was still legal, and found the sport suited my play style but mostly my budget.
    But if you believe what my Federal Government says about Airsoft, is that it is 90% a pre built firearm, that with a simple modification can be made 100% lethal, and this is why they need to stay banned in Australia.
    In my state of Western Australia, the law state that if it looks like a fire arm, it is a fire arm. So Gelsoft and Airsoft are also illegal, though there are element of the government challenging the law.
    Paintball is totally legal if you have a fire arms license, or play at a registered field.
    Paintball according to my stare government says that paint ball is a safer sport than Airsoft or Gelsoft because of the Paintball, saying that Airsoft can cause because it can penetrative capabilities. Saying crazy things like, people die playing airsoft from being shot...
    We need your help to dispell this myths of Airsoft. Please help as we are wanting this sport in Australia!

      More versatile?..That's not true...Paintball has woodsball, scenario, and magfed too ... As far as being a sport goes, airsoft will never compare to paintball because paintball has a reactive projectile and airsoft does not.

    Well, there's a different format of paintball called "woods ball", which in a way can sometimes be like an air soft field, and personally I prefer woods ball over speed ball because it's less of a run an gun mindset and more of a tactical strategy based mindset. Also one way you can have fun in paintball like you would in air soft like in this video is mentioned running a three shot shotgun, is having two co.2 powered pistols with 20 round magazines and run around barrel tapping or the paintball form of melee, also running a pump based gun with grenades is fun.

    and another big reason why i like paintball more is because you just need to be fitter if you are playing on a high level. and in airsoft there are way to much grown up men that think they are something special only because they have a certain badge on their shoulder

    What I love about paintball as a whole is that it’s a more pragmatic sport than airsoft. With the rise of speedqb I see this mentality being transfer to airsoft. I always felt that HPA platform are more reliable and easier to maintain and tune than any AEG or GBB using green gas or CO2. Even in terms of conception I feel paintball manufacturer are always aiming at pure performance and easy of use than airsoft companies. Having something lightweight but sturdy and not have to break your bank to get a marker for instance. You can get really good marker nowadays, for speed and for magfed too and not having to pay thousands of dollars in equipments. At the other end the paintball community as a whole is just great. From DIY custom made paintball mods shared for everyone to BIG GAME events that assemble speedball community and woodsball (including magfed) for a blast ! Yeah paintball is just more entertaining to me. To finish I will quote one of my favorite streamer. Paintball is about SPEED ! VIOLENCE ! MOMENTUM !

    I used to play paintball a lot, but stopped a few years ago due to expense and a lot of my friends quitting. I got into airsoft last year as a lower cost alternative. It's fun, but different. Tournament style paintball seems a lot more like cqb airsoft. The atmosphere is often more sporty, less warzone. There is a whole other side to paintball too, often referred to as woodsball that is a lot more like outdoor airsoft is often played. Sometimes airsoft players or woodsball paintball players seem too intense. It's a game, not a real war. On a different note, think it's interesting that paintball guns are optimized for playing paintball, but airsoft guns aren't optimized for playing airsoft. They are almost always trying to at least look like a real gun, if not function like one. I've never seen a lightweight, low-profile, airsoft gun that is designed solely to put bbs downrange as quickly and accurately as possible.

    I think the difference is that airsoft is a game and paintball is a sport.
    In arisoft its mostly just about having fun and there is a large roleplay/cosplay element; I always hear the joke that airsoft is 90% cosplay.
    Paintball on the other hand is very much a sport, with the teams all wearing pretty much the same kit and playing in similar size and shaped areas.
    Paintball also seems to completely disconnect itself as much as possible from real guns and culture, for example, the paintball "guns" are typically referred to as "paintball markers" rather than the former.

    • @justinworkman5482

    As someone who’s only played paintball twice, yet the first time was a 1v1 when I was really young and the second being rather recent, and have never played airsoft, I’d say that airsoft is more to simulate real life or a more tactical experience, hence milsim, while paintball is more for the fun of shooting others, having fun with friends and stuff. As I said, I have no hands on experience so I might be wrong about somethings

    I think that if a paintball player went to play cqb or just any airsoft they would struggle with a few things. 1. The fact that you can get more range because of hop and hopping bbs correctly, and realizing that more people can hit you from farther away. 2. The fact that the rof on a good aeg would probably limit their ability of a fast trigger finger simply because the tech isn't able to keep up.

But i just own 2 airsofts and no paintball markers (i am a student and can't afford a pneumatic) because i know some persons who own a lot so that they can borrow some. I just found this video now, and although i agree with some of the points here..
    .. YOU ARE WRONG, “the field’s are smaller........” LOOK UP PRZ PAINTBALL its like 5 square miles of all field, and a full 3 story building complex. Rentals SUCK never use those when you compare it to your custom modded guns. Lastly speedball is only a small part of it, tourniments are cool yes, but most paintball is small events where you go and have fun with friends. The videos you saw are PROFESSIONAL players not casual. Casual is way more fun and in some ways airsoft and paintball are like the same thing. I am a paintball player and i use a magfed gun that is way more accurate and way cooler than those markers they were using. Just look up prz paintball events and you will see what i mean

    I don't play either... yet. Still deciding on which one to sink money into.
    I would have one question; would it be possible, or why not make your Airsoft pellets like micro paint balls so the splat and leave a hit trace when you hit you enemy. Looks like the added pellet weight would allow for better flight characteristics and cut way down on the cheaters.
    If you could invent and patent a micro paint ball that shoots through the same Airsoft weapons that you now use you could be a millionaire overnight.

    Side note: for the purposes of getting newer/young players I have found it easier to convince parents to have their kids play with paintball guns rather than having them use paintball guns that are 'mil-sim'. Most of the airsoft videos I have seen show adults and rarely kids. Do you think is easier to transition from Nerf guns to paintball rather than to airsoft?

  • @PAINtballingxghillie
    @PAINtballingxghillie 4 года назад

    I’ve played now for 10 years and I’ve never heard or seen anyone using your method of aiming a paintball gun, magfed guns use optics and tournament markers can be aimed by following the last ball and looking along the barrel (not having eyes in the middle of the barrel) Magfed has come a long way it’s moving in the same direction as airsoft. Using smaller calibre paintballs for pistols means they look very realistic to military handguns, I’d even go as far to say magfed paintball has been taking inspiration from airsoft. I love airsoft videos but I stopped playing after a couple of visits due to cheaters. Way to common for people to not call their hits, that’s why I chose to stay paintball because if your hit it hurts and you don’t to get hit again. It’s that fear that stops people just rushing you, it hurts! It gets people’s heads down. There’s a fear about paintball that adds a tactical prescience. It’s coming more common now that airsoft feild and paintball fields are using the same grounds to play.

I'm not knocking airspft as it's a blast and more "combat realistic." As far as the guns being precise, tournament players typically have guns that are top tier, my whole set up cost me over $2100 and it shoots laser beams.

    The two sport are not that different when you compare. Yes ammo and markers can be different. Paintball is cut between mil-sim/scenario and speed ball/tournament style. The sport form of it is being shown but the more scenario style game are similar to air-soft but i do like some of the unique games you can do with air soft. Also paintball does have mag fed system and you can get a wide range of CQB, Sniper/DMR or heavy gunner type markers. This show cased one side of a border sport.
