    Absolutely stunning car. IMO the best looking Aston ever made, the design didn't need to grow on me at all like the new db11, it was just instantly amazing. Also would like to mention you're doing a really good job of conveying what the car is like in a broad range of situations which not many do. Keep it up :)

    I remember drooling over the DBS when it featured on TopGear.
    I’ve said in previous comments on your channel that I’m a big fan of Aston Martins. But of the “DB9” Range of which the S is...I’d go for the equally gorgeous but almost totally forgotten Virage.

    Great review. As you were launching it, I heard the infamous clutch squeak. The early DBS clutches had that annoying quirk. My '09 DBS had the same thing. Replacing the clutch with the updated part transformed the driving experience. Still a rather high bite point, but much easier to engage, and no annoying squeak. Expensive, but worth it if you actually get out and drive the car.

    When it first came out I said some day I will drive or own one. I got to ride in a business associate's DB9 a few years back. He lives outside if London. We took a nice trip through the countryside. If and when the prices come down under 80,000 USD I will buy one.
    I would love to have a Storm Black and a red and black interior. Storm Black is a floss black with red metal flakes in it.
    Till I get one I built a model DBS instead. I painted it a Royal blue pearl with a burgundy and brown interior.
    This will have to do for now.

    yes, the analog speedometer is a joke, but only because they just HAD to have a ridiculously high top speed on it, necessitating the usable portion (0-80 mph) to be no more than a couple of inches of the face's arc. leaving a granularity that is so small that discerning the difference between 30mph and 40mph difficult. as a consequence it occasionally becomes necessary to explain to a police officer why one was speeding. and to add insult to injury the digital LED speedo is sometimes obscured by reflections and ambient sunlight. sunlight that cannot be prevented by it's cousin, the ridiculously small sun visor that has been designed with a handicap such as to be incapable of simply blocking the sun from the side.
    BTW, a clutch that releases very late or very early or a too tall first gear (or reverse as on the older vantages) can cause a remarkable amount of stalling if one is not accustomed to it.

  • @jonathancollard3710

    Loved my manual DB9 but could not sell it for hell or high water some years ago... but of course it is now “sought after” for its rarity. Clutch wasn’t great and had judder... and like Jay’s experience, could easily stall. My wife only drove once, for about 10feet on our gravel driveway but gave up as couldn’t gain traction without wheel spin 🥴

    Great video. I personally think that the DB9 aged badly because of its Touchtronic transmission rather than its looks (although I think they offer it with a manual too). With the Vantage's wheelbase being shorter, I wonder if the V12 Vantage would feel pretty noseheavy compared to the DBS which share same engine...

    Very good vid JayEmm - you do capture the essence of a DBS , and why its different from a DB9 - been fortunate enough to have a DB9 Volante, but bit the bullet to upgrade to a DBS Carbon Volante, and it is chalk and cheese - the DBS is like riding a 'Tiger', rather than walking the DB9 Lion on a leash, both are very good design and capability, but the DBS has a very different feel, spring, and neck hair prickling performance and growl - it does seem like the sweet spot between the older classic evolutions on great body shapes, and the newer slightly more ugly big mouthed modern models. The Vanquish is appealing, but for the money, the DBS is well sorted and just makes you feel good on a quick trip to lock down supermarket beer provisions

      JayEmm on Cars Aston has 370 lbs- foot. of torque from 1000 rpm. 0-60 favours Lotus 4.0 vs 4.2 but 0-100 the Aston 8.5 to 9.5 in best tests. 0-125 13.5 vs 15.2 for Jays Evora. 0-150 mph 21.5 vs 28.0 for Evora. The Carbon Black Edition is slower and would only pass the Evora around 110 mph. 45-65 passing at 2.1 for DBS vs 2.7 for the 400 but DB11 beats both at 1.5 seconds! If you want to pass a huge line of trucks on a big hill the DB11 is the car to have. Their only Nurburgring laps were fairly leisurely ones by Sport Auto and the Evora edges the DBS 7:59 to 8:02. Hockenheim favours the Lotus 1:12.2 to 1:13.4.

    Watching this today, your quote about mid vid ads........
    Might want to go through the YT settings.
    They are screwing everyone again.

      Yeah they turned them on. Unfortunately with the kicking in ad revenue from C19 I have decided to begin using them after over three years of avoiding it. Painful but extreme times etc.
      However I do manually insert them into new videos to stop YT going mad with them

    Is it just me or is the audio unbelievably quiet on this video? Had to turn my TV up to 90! I've never had it past 30 before....

    • @JayEmmOnCars
      @JayEmmOnCars  6 лет назад

      Is it all of the video Patrick or just part? I try and mix my audio to "proper" levels but a lot of content on YT is mixed loud

    • @PatrickEVRAable

      JayEmm on Cars Sorry Jay, I think it was a weird glitch on my TV, came back to the video later on and seemed normal. But yeah you're right lots of content on YT is way too loud, makes my ears billed when I jump back to normal TV. Btw I have a stock 2016 fiesta ST if you're still interested in reviewing one

    If you were about to buy one - manual or automatic gearbox?

    • @rodrigo_realestate
      @rodrigo_realestate 4 года назад

      Manual. I have the auto carbon edition that only came in auto, I love it but sometimes I wish it was manual

    • @michaelwatson418
      @michaelwatson418 4 года назад

      I have the manual. The auto is no where near as good as the rest of the car so I would avoid

    • @JayEmmOnCars

      That would be a tricky question. I have not even had a passenger ride in an F12, I do love them

      JayEmm on Cars The DBS is very fast but the F12 is scary fast.
