It plays like a traditional score, where the full, independently recorded pieces are played in their entirety. The other version was prevalent in Japan (although we had a version in North America), and cuts sections directly from the movie, including the dialogue and sound effects.
They didn't preserve the original OST of Akira. So, there are two versions that float around. One has bits of audio from the film (as that is where they ripped it from), and the other is a symphonic rerecording of the OST (I believe the original composer was also involved). You really want the latter, as the former is (at best) a novelty. It is definitely worth owning, as it is an amazing OST.

Your in for a treat. All recorded on a 4-track reel to reel in their basement using broken synths. Homemade electronic drums and really left field subject matter. The two volumes contain a few demos of songs that would end up on their first album. Extremely interesting stuff and shows you how far ahead they we're from the very beginning!

My father had a few J Mascis and Dinosaur Jr. mini CD's that were that size that he kept from the 90's. You can play it in any regular CD player with no problem, without it getting stuck 👍
