10m each t2 3m each t4. Whichever troop you prefer to take familiar damage build more of that t2. For example I have 12m t2 inf to take familiar damage. Having a mil or so t1 siege with the free t4 siege from hell drider familiar is good to help prevent walkbacks and eat pyris. The rest of troops are entirely unnecessary imo besides obviously t5. T5 troops are nice but use wisely. Let them go to beds not die so play the numbers right.
you don't zero your upkeep, let them take your food, you only need food to build things so use packs when building or researching, when you have 0 food your troops will not die so it is better to use the farm spaces for stone, ore, wood
you have to research it from lab , i suppose castle 21 or 22 you are supposed to be to get that, till that you will only have the standard infantry phalanx, there is also cavalry phalanx , ranged phalanx , and 3 wedges ,
You mention reinforcing to hide troops but not Garrison!?? Also if you select a set of Heroes you can send even more troops! You can also send troops on a long walk…find a rss tile far away and send troops walking. Maybe give all the relevant information if you’re gonna release these Mickey Mouse guides!

How are you able to have so many troops and 0 upkeep?

The champion gear give up soo much upkeep reduction that's why his food his not burning because he has his champion gear on
