Thank You for posting this........amazing history that cannot be left to die.....MARTIN & NEIL, BABY!!!!!!! Never thought any of this was captured.....THANKS!
Cruising over after a hearty meal at Hot Shoppes, then spending most of the night in what I recall was a smoky room. Can't remember: They were all smoky rooms! But I recall the awe of getting so close to good music. We also hung out at the Gaslight South in the Grove.
Thank you so much for posting this, Peter. I was a regular attendee at the Flick from about 1967 until it, sadly, closed in the early '70's. Saw Vince Martin perform there many times, but only got to see Fred live once--at a Dolphin benefit concert at the Grove Playhouse, about 1975 or '76. Many wonderful, magical times at the Flick--memories I will cherish forever! nBTW, love your book, "That's the Bag I'm In"--highly recommend to all who love Fred and his music.
You're welcome Biff66. I attended one of those Grove Playhouse Dolphin concerts as well. Yes, there were many magical nights at The Ole Flick--lucky to be alive at that time to experience them. Thank you for the kind words about the book.
I don't recall the coffee as being that good, but that was Miami in the 1960s, so pizza and soda was about the most exotic food and beverage combination you could get outside Little Havana or Miami Beach. In fact, I would not even verify that The Flick had coffee ... I worked across US 1 at Loews Riviera so I was in the neighborhood a lot.
calico1947 Went more than once. The best Flick nights included Gamble Rogers. Those who recall him know the breaks between songs were an entirely otherworldly encore treat, song-after-song! Also Oz Bach solo was a treat, before Spanky and the Gang. I also went to MDJC, so I kept returning to the Flick after high school. My luck in having good proximity to great live music continues here in my current hometown, Martinez California. I've documented this on my You Tube channel, and "Quoting Roy Jeans".
thanks alot calico, for those rare fred neil-material - are you aware that fred neil played in montreux / switzerland, june 1975? in the archive montreux jazz festival should be a tape of that performance, perhaps even a film screen. my advice: go on contact them ...

We were there in 1963-64 to see Vince and Fred with his elegant 12-string in person.
Jamie Jobb lucky you. What was that like?

Jamie Jobb Very good. Thanks. Anything else you remember about their performance, that night? Were there other acts on that night?
Jamie Jobb As a matter of fact, the Flick offered several different types of coffee drinks.
