The fire began in the roof of the Stardust, locals saw the roof ablaze before the fire service had even been called. Some took photos, one man stood on his garage roof to make sure he wasn't mistaken. Girls at the club noted how warm the club was during the evening as they normally complained about the cold and lack of heating, the remember taking off their coats as they noted the warmth of the venue. The roof was destroyed completely, hardly possible if the fire began in the seating area. The first emergency firefighter said when he got there it was all over , the building was destroyed.
Father Heber passed away on the 9th of September 2023. He always said he would take those images to his grave. He was a good kind and gentle man. May his kindness be his reward in Heaven. The Irish government and justice system should be ashamed of themselves. Those surveyors and the families of the poor souls that perished should be compensate for all they went through. When you consider that the government is looking after every nation's needs first. R.I.P to the victims and the Priest who done his best in a real nightmare.🙏❤💙❤️🙏
I believe that in the years since this documentary was made there have been severe doubts cast on the arson Theory. also I believe in the intervening years it has come out that volatile chemicals were stored in Phantom rooms which did not appear on plans or blueprints, above the dance floor . I'm not from Dublin and I was only 10 at the time so it's not like I have a particular interest in this but I felt I ought to mention it in fairness to the memory of the victims . that said, one person acting the maggot in a night club full of hundreds of people where alcohol is served is surely no reflection on the clientele as a whole . what no one ever did answer for was the use of so much inflammable materials in the seating and decor of the club- even leaving aside storerooms of volatile chemicals- that and the way people were trapped in the building because the owner was cheap. what brought me back here was the similarities to the Greenfell Tower fire in London and the apparently almost universal use of inflammable cladding on tower blocks in Britain -thank god our tower blocks were so tatty that they never even received cladding before being pulled down lol ! but yeah, for anyone who wasn't directly affected by this but who has an interest in it I urge you to look a little further into this as there is now extreme doubt about the arson Theory .
To my mind, a pronouncement of arson without a prosecutable suspect is completely irresponsible. If you have no suspect upon whom to base your claim, then you have to look elsewhere, which the tribunal did not, and ended up awarding the club owners when they should have found them criminally negligent and fined them for blocking and locking exits and storing dangerous, flammable chemicals on-site!
Never heard of this tragedy 😞!! Someone I was commenting with from Ireland, educated me the subject. I never seen an nightclub fire, all consuming as this fire🔥!!! Well done, informative documentary!!
Looking at this at the precise moment the fire was on. Lost some friends several others injured. Still these working class families are being shafted by those who were supposed to represent them. Praying for all affected by this horror.
we are looking at this event in college. I study law with criminal justice but and might of had an altered view of this man due to past events but Jim Fitz is nothing short of an inspiration, not just for his heroism for going back into a burning building to search for him friends but for his tireless efforts to bring justice to the families of the 48 lost people that night. For myself i am sorry for every looking at this event with anything but admiration. I also work security now all over ireland and i am thankful to say that everywhere i start i see fire exists manned and not locked. I seen a fire exit locked once at the age of 18 and refused to work until it had been taken down as i had at the time a close relation to this disaster. long story short #JTF48 and fuck ireland for sweeping things like this under the carpet while families still suffer.
Woww! However it started, you might as well have lined everything with paper! Nothing but inflammable plastics on the walls and ceiling that burn fast with intense heat as well as thick, poisonous smoke once a hot flame gets a foothold! What kind of fool decided upon THAT type of building/decorating material?
Sadly it was an event waiting to happen.it still happens today around the world, though health and safe and fire regulations have changed to try and help these disasters from happening.it take a human to take chances to screw it up. In 1970 thru 80 materials used night clubs...storage of materials cleaning agent etc ...i used to go to the odd disco but stopped when i relised many of these places were death traps should a mass evacuation take place.i used to see the chain and padlocks draped on many a fire door but yes even locked to pre vent people from getting in without paying...no one thinks about are these unlockec too much presumption too plzce.. bad management etc all fall into proper running of a night club and disco....sadly if no fire had happened everyone would have gone home..sadly the fire esculated everything that was wrong in that building..management..bjilding material etc..very tragic loss of life. I was 19 at the time a a school boarder..remember hearing this on news getting up on morning after on the other side of city..shocking..tragic for all those involved.
There can be all the safety laws in the world but if venue owners ignore them, no one is ever safe. People also have to take responsibility for their own choices, and not cram themselves into enclosed, small venues, just because owners allow it.
The arson finding was overturned in 2009 and it is thought that the fire began from an electrical fault in a mezzanine store-room in the roof space filled with huge amounts of highly flammable cooking oil and cleaning fluids and paper plates and napkins and plastic glasses, far more than was present in the Tribunal report.
It didn't start in the ceiling, lots of people seen the fire start in the room beside where all the people where, it just got to the ceiling fast because the place was a tinderbox! Even if it was arson, that family is still culpable for not having an establishment with any fire safety measures, after being told numerious times to clear and open all exits he refused, if he had a fire plan in place, had exits easily identifiable, that didnt have chains on them then less people would be burned to death....
@@blahblah1287 I agree with you one hundred percent I was always under the impression that it was something in the ceiling as a famous group played there a week previous not to sure what band it was but the singer made a complaint about smoke on the stage
Fire was started by a faulty motor in the heating system.. the owner knew it was broke and someone turned it on that night causing it to go on fire in the roof area.. 15 mins later the whole place was burnt to the ground.. 48 children dead..
Emergency doors chained locked, chairs stacked up against exits...and the government then and now did F.A...unavailable for comment is all you ever get...How on earth can this family sleep at night... Only in this backward country that's where
No that’s much further back & to the right. The area formerly the stardust nightclub is cordoned off with steel posts as far as I know. My Da would never buy fuel in that petrol station when they built it in front of the former silver swan & stardust buildings. The inquests are going pretty well. One thing I’d like to know is what exactly did they use on the back of those carpet tiles to adhere them to concrete walls..I’m guessing whatever it was was extremely flammable. RIP 48 ❤️
This is horrific and it should have never happened. Eamonn Butterly is a fool and he knows it. God bless those who died, were injured or lost loved ones.
I get why they reconstructed one room of the disco to identify how the fire spread. But these clowns/c u next Tuesday’s seem to have reconstructed the entire building and added actors as victims firemen as well as starting a real fire with actors at enormous risk. All a laugh in 1982 I’m sure.
Saturday February 14, 1981 was a dark day in Ireland's history as a result of the Stardust fire, with 48 lives lost. As of Monday, 20th April, 2020, Ireland has experienced it's worst loss of life with the deaths of 77 people in one full day as a result of the coronavirus, which is 29 more than the number lost at the Stardust.

In the mid 2000’s they built a rock climbing centre where it used to be and it burnt down is well creepy.
Unlike the Stardust, there was nobody inside the rock climbing centre. Thank god.
Yeah it was called Energy! Used to love that place, two fires on the same premises is so strange

This is heartbreaking
May Gog bless the dead, the injured and everyone who lives with what happened.
sorry. But the marquee they are using is from the Stardust Casino in Las Vegas
im beginning to think this was just an event caused for a valentines day massacre for the elites
That sign was over the door I remember in the Stardust in Dublin at the time of the fire. They probably copied the signage from the one in Las Vegas.

Me too, I was 6 and a half, remember it like it was last week. Haunting memory. I lived about 90 miles away from the fire but still shocking. #JF48
Was this from Irish tv?
No
So upsetting omg devastating 😔😔😔🙏
