    I had a 88 and was a nice bike , good on road and dirt . Also had a 250 . Well rounded bike at 6-4 260 , I could handle it well and the 250 easy . Had KLR and the NX is not as top heavy and better on dirt trails and roads . I loved the frame oil cooler , and mono shock was in the right place . I rig up a Harley temperature gauge to the oil cooling frame so I could monitor oil temp. All around liked it as much as my 650 XR with desert tank but I like thumpers. The NX 250 you can really work it in the dirt , but for mountain forest fire roads and trails the 650 has better power band and not working it to death.

      That all sounds about right. I use small bikes to stay out of big trouble. The honda singles are versatile. I just ran a 100 trip on the nx650 three days ago. But normally I think the xr600r would have been better for that trip.

    Great to see some of those still on the road! I have one also, it's an '88 model, and in great condition like yours. Mine has 12k miles on it. Owned it since '05 and never had any trouble with it, very reliable bike and also handles great. The guy I bought it from in '05 was the original owner. I have kept mine completely stock except for bar risers. At this rate, with the low miles yours has, and mine too, these bikes should easily outlast us. Lol

      That's really cool! For having had it since 05, you still have low miles. I was out ion mine yesterday. It ran flawlessly.

    The biggest point of failure on these is the oil pump, I recommend you change it out for one from the XR650L which has seals in the body. This will ensure a long and trouble free life for the top end of the engine. I have a 1988 NX650 also ex california and I changed the carb for a EU spec one which solved a lot of the issues I had with it.
    The CDI will also probably fail at some point usually they get hard to start first then they fail completely.
    These are a great bike and years ahead of their time.
    They were sold in Europe for a long time, and went through several model changes up to 1997.

      Hey Spearo, Thanks for those tips! I know little about the NX. I do see it as ahead of it's time though... 1989 bike with an adventure bike look!
      Who else was doing that?

      Cdi is the capacitor discharge ignition. It’s a small black box on the right side of the fairing attached by a rubber mount to the metal bracket. To test it try tapping it with the handle of a screwdriver when trying to start .

    I have a 2003 Dommie owned it for 3 years only 12000 miles , love this single cylinder thumper use it every day .
    Have a spare set of talon wheels when riding dirt .
    Completely stock bike just added a screen top box and canvas bags
    Live in the UK and all parts are available from suppliers in Germany so not a problem .
    I’ve dropped it off-roading and all I did was damage the Earth .😂
    Look after a Dommie and it’ll go on forever. .

      Now that's the ONE THING I could not get straight in my mind! How could some one go off-roading on this bike with all the fairing and such. One crash and plastic is busted up.
      My NX650 has about 9,300 mile now. Looking forward to this year and hoping the stars have it in them for me to get in many adventure rides.
      Than you for your comment,

      @@jamesbatten8659 I know you are boasting about the NX and they ARE great! I have one nx and 6 xr600r's so there is no need to even get it dirty. Let alone deal with any failures caused by off-roading. I busted off an nx turn signal with my hip just maneuvering between bikes in the garage! You seem to be having good luck in your travels. Keep on riding!

    hello rider ! nice vid ! is it good for 2 person ride? seems small seat and are the suspensions are good for 2 riders on it?

    • @2manyrides
      @2manyrides  10 месяцев назад

      Hello... Your questions all can be viewed as subjective to the owner's preference. So it is impossible to give some kind of definitive answer.
      However, I can give my own thoughts. Just that I'm not really mainstream in my use of the nx650.
      2 person ride? I have never had anybody on the back of this bike so I don't know. An nx650 has enough power to transport two people. But as with any bike out there, 2-up is not a favorite thing to do. I don't see the seat as being too small, I've seen smaller. An nx650 shock can be adjusted if you were to be doing 2-up rides often. An nx650 is lower, has older tech suspension than an xr650L which does have the same motor. Ya know, it's all in what you want to do and indeed anything CAN be done.
      I took the rear footpegs off this bike with in the first few days I had it.

    Not powerful but superbly well balanced and with a great amount of torque. Bomb proof engine should be good for over 100K miles!

    • @2manyrides
      @2manyrides  2 года назад

      Let's hope it last well over 100,000 miles... That would be GREAT! About the "not powerful" part of it... You may be referring to the statement I made back at 4:15 on the counter. In context, I was comparing it to my xr600r's. They seemed to jump out quicker.

      Right, I'm told the motors are the same. Thanks for the tip. So far, I've had to replace a turn signal. Everything else is good. The bike will turn over to 10,000 miles next time I go out.

      @@2wheel_right Wow! you're doing great with that bike! But to clarify, 35,000 miles? or 3,500 ?
      You've done a lot of riding on it if it's 35,000
      Mine is going well too... I mean better than expected. This thing will out live my viability to ride motorcycles and I'll sell it to the next guy. I have documentation as to who the previous owners were on this bike. There were 6 owners before me. One guy rode 200 miles while he had it. Vey low miles.
      I will create a commemerative video when mine gets to 10,000.
