Spoiler alert!!! Just getting ready for another adopted hamster! At this time all I know is, it won't be another syrian hamster! I think this cage set up would work for a Robo, Winter White, Campbells or Chinese hamster; not a syrian, the ceramic hides and wheel would be too small. Let me know what you think of the cage setup, open to suggestions as I have only ever had Syrians before.
the setup looks fabulous so natural and full of interesting things to explore.one lucky hamster.yeah! for adoption...i had my last adopted hamster cosmo for 1yr and 10 months...he was the most placid ,sweetest hammy i have ever had.
Hi Rosemarie, your comment got held for review - no idea why, so only just seen it. Love that name Cosmo it is on my list of names :) Your Cosmo sounds so sweet, all my hamsters have been crazy and I would never use the word placid to describe any of them, but i absolutely love them and their personalities.
this cage looks so good! i find it so satisfying watching cages be set up as well. and those furnishables were adorable 😍 can’t wait to meet a new hammy soon!
@@thecreaturenotebook440 Yes I know I just wanted to tell you because you seemed like you really enjoyed that cage that the german hamstercare is also really natural xD, love her cage just doesnt meet the minimum in MY country haha
@@Emily-pz8mn what country are you in as this cage is 100cm X 50cm which I thought was considered the minimum in Germany, I'm not aware of any other countries where it is larger.
Not that often to be honest, the longer I have hamsters the more I have worked out they need less cage cleans as it can stress them out. With Comet I tend to spot clean when he starts to smell , and big cage cleans happen maybe every couple of months or so (i just go by smell and look of the cage, so hard to set a specific timeline). By a big cage clean I mean getting rid of the dirtiest bedding (about 1/3) and leave the rest. As for how, I just lift things off, scoop the worst bedding out, and then replace things back. I don;t wipe things out unless needed, as it gets rid of their scent and again can stress them out. His wheel is probably the item that gets the dirtiest, so that gets wiped out the most. Hope that helps.
Thanks and It's approx 710 sq inches. I hope to buy another one one day and join the two together to make one huge one. I just don't have room where I live at the moment.
@@RenzoDragneel It's a great height for a dwarf hamster. Do you know which wheel it is you ordered? If you didn't know already you may need to plastikote it to protect it from hamster pee, otherwise it will start to smell.
I didnt even consider the pee. But I heard stories of People who woke up and SAW blood all over the inside of the wheel because the feet of the hamsters were hurt
@@itsbloomx5690 If you mean 50cm X 50cm then no I can't recommend any good cages that size, there aren't any. That is way too small for any hamster. Absolute minimum you need to be looking at is 80cm X 50cm, but for Syrians I definitely recommend minimum of 100cm X 50cm. If you are in the UK the cages I recommend were in the good 2nd hand cages video which I already gave you that link and this video for good cages to buy: ruclips.net/user/shortsZcPz85rYctY?feature=share hope that helps.
Nitenagel, prevue 528, Savic Plaza are the only ones I know of, but I think they are expensive as they are imported. Other than that, ikea hacks which are included in this video: ruclips.net/video/ORy4VFg4R5U/видео.html
hiya cosmic hope u r doin well were did u get the terrarium and is this like a different size? im currently in the the market for one for my syrian and wanna know if this would be suitable all best x
Hi. I got it from zooplus UK although I don't think they are selling them in the UK any more due to Brexit so it may depend which country you are in. It is a good sized cage, just under 100x 50cm something like 97 X 48cm I think. I have seen people use it for their Syrians, but personally I don't think it is high enough. I.e. for putting things like deep bedding and a 11/12 inch wheel etc.
@@elizasmith5437 if you are in the UK, keep looking out for them to come back on Amazon. I ordered mine and should have been here within a couple of days, took a month. Think covid caused shipping problems as I think it gets shipped direct from the manufacturer in Europe. Or keep an eye out on 2nd hand websites.
@@samanthamayne1028 Twinkle (my white syrian) fits in the apple one but he is long and skinny, it is big inside. The hole is about 5.2cm on mine. The apple one is the same size all the way up, whereas the toadstool tapers off. I got them for dwarfs/robos. I do know some people have them for Syrians but it depends on your Syrians size. Star was a tiny Syrian and would have fit in both.
@@Emily-pz8mn that's interesting. I didn't know that. But I do think it depends on the shape and size of your hamster. For example, like I said in a previous comment my very small Syrian, Star, would have fitted fine in these. Whereas my big girl Luna not a chance. Sometimes common sense has to come into these decisions.
Honestly, anything bigger than approx 80 X 50cm you should find you don't have to clean that much, and I normally keep half to 2/3rds of the old bedding when I do a big clean. Also if you have room to store bedding, buying in bulk can save a lot of money.
It's heavy. I'm not sure if you could move it on your own. I have an illness and not a lot of strength so I had help moving it up onto a wooden TV unit. I certainly don't think you could move it on your own when full and you wouldn't want to be moving it from room to room on a regular basis.
Amazing video!! I've just ordered this cage after seeing this, but I was too excited and forgot to ask beforehand, nor could I see it on the website, but is there any risk of my Syrian escaping by chewing through the wood or is he unable to? Thanks so much :)
I don't think so, because everything is flat to the sides. Not got a hamster in it yet. I haven't heard of anyone's hamster chewing their way out of these cages.
The only issue I know of with this cage is urine seeping under the glass bottom. You can either seal along the sides but make sure it is hamster safe sealant, or you can try a hemp mat which is what I used. Also if you use enough bedding you should be fine. The only problem you may then have is if your hamster burrows right down to the bottom to go to toilet
