In this video I use the Korg Monologue as an effects processor by running various instruments through it's audio input jack. Specifically I run a guitar (Epiphone ES-339), bass (Fender Precision), Volca Beats and my voice through it (Shure SM-58). I start off by tweaking the sounds then record a little song at the end so you can hear all the instruments together.

Man, that song actually sounded really good. Nice to see someone use somewhat experimental/niche features like these and actually put them to good use :)
Thanks man!
Didnt expect, that somebody makes a song with that Monosh*t.. Sounds real good mate!
@@dannyfink390 shit? fo real is really good
Where could we get it?
I’m using just guitar leads .. am I needing something else ..?
Man this channel was so good. Literally haven't found anyone else who makes music like him, miss him 😭
ah damn he stopped? i just found him too
@@fg594 he had disappeared, he wanted to take a break from music I think and focus on creating a game. He gave an update videos few months back where he said he was gonna start uploading videos again but that never happened so man idk 😶😞
@@shaunsensei6948 meh i hear that. life happens!!
@@shaunsensei6948He's started uploading again...
I know this is an old video but you have just showed me so much that can be done with this synth. I am even more glad that I chose the Monologue as my first synthesizer.
Thank you for having a good voice, for testing the effects
Can't believe that I have a Monologue just waiting to unlock all it's potential! Just hope that my potential is on par with the synth.
I love experimental/unorthodox musical ideas like this. Great demo!
And great song too.
Thanks dude
A bit like some of the Flaming Lips quieter moments. Lovely tune.
thanks man, appreciate it!
Best demo video of the lot
The voice fx is amazing
ive just got teary eyed!!!! such a hero
This has my head spilling over with ideas now. Thanks for making this!
Can you also use the input to create patches using a bass guitar to more closely emulate a bass guitar tone?
....I'm new to synth, but been thinking of getting one of these with a Taurus-style foot controller to drop in the bass lines while I play guitar.
Very cool. I gotta start running some stuff through my monologue
Great musicianship, songwriting, production, performance and teaching. Thanks for this.
Great tune
Beautiful
your channel is always a good source of inspiration to me.
awesome, I'm glad!
DUDE THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!🔥
that guitar filter lfo was sick ;D
Thanks dude
Beautiful singing and beautiful song!!! Great work!
Thanks so much!
Thanks for this tutorial, really great. I as well had a little trouble with the "holding a note down" to get the input to work, but have since seen you've covered this in the comments. Sequencer steps! Seems so obvious now. Thanks.
Hi! I know this is an old comment but can you please teach me how it works? You’d be so kind 🙏
@@gabrieleferrante6337same, please explain😭😭
This is incredibly awesome!!! Keep it uo
Really cool video and even better little song at the end, it came out much better than I was expecting. Subscribed! (I have one of these things as well and haven't tried using it like this yet... giving it go now.)
This should have like 3x more views, love it
As if I wasn’t already sufficiently convinced I need to buy one 😖😖 lol
same here
did you get it?
It’s a great synth! Get one
sounds like DEVENDRA BANHART! really great! i have a monologue as well and i'll make this experiments with it! thank you!
That song was freaking awesome
Wait, do does this mean I can add effects to any regular keyboard? That's beyond cool!
Beautiful song! Totally was not expecting that!
uff, dont expect that... 6 years ago? where ar you now,, hope your well
Thanks for this demo! Where did you connect the mic, please?
Great song! I just bought a monologue and had no idea this was possible! Very cool!
Thanks! Enjoy the new monologue!
Final tune sounds really cool
Thanks!
good use of all instruments & fx....nice...
This is awesome!! I'm new to synthesizers, so this vid opened up a whole new world of options for me!
Thanks!!
Thanks, and welcome to the wonderful world of synthesizers!
Increible!
Great demo and song
Damon Albarn better watch tf out. This demo was beautiful
The song is 👍 👍
super sick demo song :)
Really nice. Got a Sparklehorse vibe off the track (which is a good thing!)
I can't be the only person who always mentally sings "once-up-on-a-synth" along with the little intro jingle can i?
lol, I do too.
that tune is great!
Thank you!
Its got this M ward Vibe to it, maybe it's your voice. But still very much your own. Love it. I haven't found any video explain how you did this. Any help be appreciated
um. what. this is amazing
Very nice vocal effect!
Yooo that came toether really well. Very creative👍🏼
Nice one but how do you have sound coming out of it without using the sequencer?
Hola, buenas tardes. Quería hacer una consulta: al conectar mi guitarra eléctrica directamente al puerto de entrada de audio (audio in), no funciona. ¿Debo seguir algún paso adicional para que funcione? Saludos desde Santiago de Chile.
Cool video. How did you plug the mic in to the monologue? Do you need an xlr to jack cable or is it passing through a preamp first?
I was surprised at the result, well done, thanks !!!l
Thanks!
Wow!
Nice
tune!!
Really cool music!!! Keep making these.
Thanks man, I'll try to make more of these!
once upon a synth I have a bunch of ur vids on my RUclips watchlist. Big fan!
3:13 Yooo that was sooooo cool!!! :D
Hi there, do the guitar and microphone need to be amplified before going into the Monologue? I'm just starting out
I would recommend a mixer and side chain the mini/monologue
@@jamindeordio1112 what is a side chain? Just connect the monologue to the same mixer?
Hi, great video. That song sounds a bit like radiohead. What settings are you using to let the sound of the external gear come through? When I connect my Volca Keys to my Monologue I only hear the volca when I play a note on the Monologue.
Hey man nice video I saw you hold your finger on a note while recording from your first electronic instrument. But how did the audio come through with the bass or guitar without you having to hold a note down on the korg? I would greatly appreciate your advice whenever you have a chance. Or anybody else for that matter... thank you.
It's been a year, but I just found this tutorial that addresses that part (which I also couldn't seem to figure out) ruclips.net/video/U4HVTGpmrE8/видео.html
Nice work. Great track btw
can you make this full song available to download. really nice
Thank you for this! I need a monologue now...
lol thanks! (and sorry for the GAS)
Good job!
Thanks!+!
Stupidly awesome, thank you!
sold me on getting one of these. this is exactly what im looking to do
right on!
I was inspired by your video, but was wondering how you connected the volca to the monologue... I mean, what cables and adaptors did you use? I just realised how low its output is and was wondering if I'm doing something wrong? And also, how do you get sound out of the Monologue without pressing any key? Thanks in advance!
That piece you put together sounds great. I found it quite inspirational. I have been doing the same thing. I'm more of a guitar/bass player but I had to get a Monologue(I have a couple of Monotrons, a Monotribe and a Kaoss pad, they are quite addictive),Cheers
Did you play Lord of lightning on bass
This is what I was looking for. Thanks
It reminded me of No Expectations by The Rolling Stones.
Hola! Te ruego me ayudes! Gracias!
Love this channel. Why am I only finding out about it just yet?
YES!
Hi--I love it I especially like how you matched the theme with the sound so well. Its like you are singing from some wistful paradise underwater. I have a question what do you use to record? Would you consider teaching (paid of course!) a few lessons in how to do this--either by skype or in person?
Thanks! I use a Zoom H6 to record the audio then I process it in Ableton Live and finally combine it in Final Cut Pro X for the final video. Unfortunately I don't have time to teach now, between my day job and RUclips all my time is taken up, sorry! I might make a tutorial on how I record this stuff in the future when my channel grows a little more. Cheers.
Wow, I think you just helped sell a lot of Monologues! How about a Theremini + Monologue for the next pairing?
sounds really good!!!
Hey man, really nice what u did! Now i just got a question, did you plug your guitar right into audio in? Or did you go fisrt through an amplifier?
It's been a while so I don't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure I ran it through a mixer preamp first.
dude this is so fucking good
Back again this is so good still
Great video man, I've tried to do the same but only hear sound from my guitar if I hold a key down. Is there a setting I need to adjust in the unit to allow me to play into the audio input? Thanks in advance for any help. Keep up the great work
The audio input acts like a third oscillator. If you want to hear a constant feed from the input then add notes to every sequence step, open the envelope release all the way, and if you don't want to hear the other oscillators turn them all the way down. And press play.
@@somaticjet2717 Ahhhh got ya, thank you so much for getting back to me man, that is a massive help. One day I will understand this thing, I've got to get my guitarist head around it! Once again thank you so much.
is there stuff between the guitar and the synth? thanks :D
that was cool !!
Thanks fiddlestickz!
bro when's this album dropping 🔥
I love the track. Reminds me of Elvis Depressedly
thanks! never heard of them, i'll check them out now.
dude I've been listening to Elvis Depressedly lately thanks to your suggestion, really digging their stuff.
once upon a synth glad you like them!
sick!!!!!!!
Where can I get this song? It is beautiful!
Thanks! I haven't recorded this as a full song, it was just a small snippet for this video. But given the positive feedback I've received I'll consider turning it into a full song.
Yeah honestly the song came out to be a lot more than the sum of its parts. Good work~
Please, do!
Yes, please make and record a full song or even an album - would love to buy it! Please keep it up 😘🙌🏼🤟🏻
Could you reply and tell me a little more about exactly how you have everything connected. For example, the guitar. I have everything you have in the video except for the drum machine, but I'm not sure how to hook anything up to run it thru my Korg.
Guitar cable to korg input, korg output to speaker. Done. Also, any key must be held down, or sequencer playing
Great song!
Fire. :::: Final track is swell (it is a great kind of 90's 2000's music. U know.. ) Only voice lfo kills the intention.
Very Tommy Guerrero.
Been trying to do this but can't seem to get it. Only works when I have a key depressed. Makes playing my bass guitar a bit challenging. What am I doing wrong .
So how do you get the audio to come through without pressing a key to trigger the filter?
hi. can u make a review on the soulsby atmegatron? thanks
Will do if I ever get one :)
pretty cool
Amazing sound and song! Is there a certain set up I need for the audio to come through? I tried mine, and no sound comes through unless I hold a key.
I used the sequencer with a note at each step, which is equivalent to holding down a key.
Hey, I found another tutorial that addresses this issue: ruclips.net/video/U4HVTGpmrE8/видео.html
@@onceuponasynth weird it doesnt look like the sequencer is running when your playing the guitar in the vid.
Great video! I'm planning to do exactly the same with my guitar and my Minilogue. 1 question though: Do you connect the guitar to a pre-amp before hooking it up to the Monologue or I just hook it to the audio in? Thanks!
Thanks! If I remember correctly I believe I plugged it straight into the synth and it had enough gain. But you could always run it through a pre for more juice.
Hi, I was wondering the same thing about the vocals, any preamp being used? Thanks
YOU MUST USE A MIC PREAMP BEFORE THE AUDIO IN
Hi, how can you get the sound out of monologue without pushing keybord buttons? I have volca sample and monologue. If I link them as you did I have the resulting sound only if monologue is playing (that is pushed buttons or playing a sequence). Thank you very much, great video!
Thanks! I believe in this video I used the sequencer. So if you program steps on every step and play the sequencer it will be as if the note is always on. Alternatively you can just tape down one of the keys (no joke). But yeah, there's no way to hear the sound without pressing a key or having a continuous gate signal like a sequencer.
Play the secuencer in one of the empty user profiles, works for me.
put my head into the watheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer
i cant'use it!! how you do it?
When is your next video? :D Keep it up!
Thanks! I post every monday, wednesday, friday at 2pm EST.
Could you do the same thing with a Minilogue?
