@constitutionalized8810 If уоυ’re within range of local broadcast transmission towers, pull the live OTA channels in with an antenna. Switching between channels is just like it was done with cable or before cable tv. If уоυ want to record, there are DVRs which don't have subscription fees.
What I've wanted for years: Roku home screen allows "folders" where apps can live. Having a home screen with 100+ channels is clunky. E.g., being able to create a folder called "Sports" where the user can choose to put all sports-related apps so they are not visible on the front page, Just click on the Sports folder and see only the apps in that folder. Much more efficient and user-friendly.

I’d like to see the guide on roku’s live tv app stay on whatever option you used last, or at least give that option. I have my favorites but when I want to change it moves channels based on the where they are in the guide, not my favorites. Defeats the purpose

I agree that would be nice, but I don't expect it ever to happen. There have been a couple of abortive third party efforts at creating a browser app for Roku, but ultimately Roku has carved out a very narrow niche for itself - streaming video and audio apps, a few cheesy games, and that's it. They don't want productivity software, browsers, etc. on their platform or they would have added it already. It's this reason exactly which explains why I have bought a cheap fire stick for each of my Roku televisions. That way I can sideload any Android app that I want to and add the functionality that Roku refuses to.

I'm guessing they will be video ones. And probably more privacy concerns for everyone who has a roku thing. When I bought my new tv a few months ago, I excluded their stuff from any consideration. I use the walmart onn+ pro to access my streaming channels (If I don't watch stuff on my pc).
I have owned several Roku devices/sticks over the years and finally bought a 55" Element Roku 4k tv for my livingroom. I also bought a 43" 4k FireTV (both TVs were bought on sale for huge discounts) for my bedroom. There is a HUGE difference is the speed of the OS, period. Not even close, the FireTV is noticably faster. So I would like them to speed up the home-screen...

I find the news of Roku making changes to the OS very distressing. I wished they could get some programmers that knew what they were doing to work on their OS. My 32 inch Roku TV is very sluggish, the OS seems broken, glitchy, apps occasionally crash, etc. Every time they do updates, part of it gets better while somewhere else gets worse. I am not looking forward to this change. Those who are working on it need to use it for a while before throwing it out there on multiple Roku models. It needs to be tested on older sets especially, if they support then it should work. As an owner of a Roku TV that is several years old I find this as being bad news. If and when I need to purchase a new TV I may look around to see what is out there, unless Roku gets their act together.
I want the ability to disable the shortcut buttons. Also a continue watching feature on the home screen. More dynamic wallpapers and free screensavers. Some of the screensavers I used before are gone.
Download remote on your phone. Then connect your Roku. There's a headphone button . Make sure your hearing aid is connected to your phone. And it'll work

I would love to have folders for the apps (so each person that uses the roku could have a place for just their apps), along with the ability to create a link or shortcut so that if more than one user on the roku could have the same app in the multiple folders.
If every user signed in under their own account, they would each have access to their own set of apps to use with their own app accounts. Otherwise, each user would have to log in and out of ones which are used by multiple users. Or to not have to keep switching accounts, уоυ could use multiple Roku (or other) peripheral devices connected to each HDMI port. If there are more users than ports, use an HDMI connector switch. If уоυ like folders for sorting apps, get an Apple TV
@@ajsherer1887 thanks for your suggestion. sadly invalid. we are one household. with one account to login with. there is no other account for the other users in the household to login or out of. just mine, which is shared with them, and the only way any of the streaming services can be accesed. Also. apple tv's are 150, roku's are 15. i have 10 rokus in the house. Do you want to donate 1500 to replace them all?
I like my Roku devices and remotes. They are a great gateway for apps like Netflix and Sling. One feature I would like added is a Bluetooth connection to my hearing aids while still using the TV’s audio.
I would like to see the most used apps float to the top of the Home Screen and least used go to the bottom. Also, would like to see the placing of apps on the Home Screen be synced across all Roku devices so they’re consistently placed the same across devices.
I can see where some people might find those features useful. Personally neither one strikes me as particularly useful, so I hope that if implemented they would make them optional. Many of us are rather careful about how we organize our channels, using whatever arcane criteria might apply. Having the device screwing up my preferred arrangement would not be good! Synching arrangements across Roku devices is another one that might be useful to some, but should be optional. What about those with children, for example, who might want a different arrangement on the device in their bedroom than on the one in the living room? If the arrangements are synced automatically, that would be difficult or impossible.
Yea on syncing home screen tiles across multiple devices... it's a real PITA having to go to nine different players to manually sync any changes (or bring a new player up to speed). Being able to rearrange and sync devices via the app would be a big plus... they already show the tile grid for each device in the app, and the app serves as a remote control. Shouldn't be a big stretch to allow rearrangement of tiles via the app. Big nay on the auto-arranging... don't need them mucking things up after I've got it set how I want. It's bad enough that they already sneak in unwanted apps from time to time... just like they keep adding stupid crap to the home menu that I have to delete.

What Roku should do is have people take a survey and see what Roku needs to improve not only with their devices but tech support. Let’s face it Roku ‘s customer service is awful they tell you to do this but it never fixes the problem. Roku just do a survey to help determine what needs to be improved overall . Let’s face it the hardware in their devices is what’s bad. They need better hardware in their devices. We today have routers that are much more powerful and the Roku devices can’t even handle the routers. The other problem with Roku is they never do a regular checkup on the apps to make sure that these apps are still available to use.

I have a roku TV 70" uhd HDR 10 and a firetvstick connected in my living room. and in my bedroom I have a smart TV and I have firestick connected and a roku stick connected and I watch Roku more because I don't have to worry about storage capacity like firestick does 😊
The Roku phone app allows you to listen to the Roku output through your hearing aids. You just need your hearing aids to be connected to your phone's Bluetooth.

Don’t screw things up Roku. I just tried a fire stick for the first time and returned it after literally one minute because of all the crap on the screen. I ordered the latest Roku instead. Just keep it simple
I have had a Roku for four years now, if my memory serves me correctly. The f Roku adds additional ads and especially if they can’t be stopped or skipped I will probably move to the Apple counter part. I think those devices don’t have ads, but I would need to research to know for sure
@dozn1111 I use Rokus for secondary accounts, apps I otherwise don't have, and for the Roku Channel (without having to mirror), but nothing beats my Apple TVs for ease of operation, OS design, features, security, privacy, support, regularly added system feature updates, setting controls, lack of advertising, audio and video quality. I take it уоυ never have tried one.
All of these streamers need to help people like me with vision problem, ,making it easier for us to see things on the screen where colors are concerned. I own fire tv, roku, and google 4k streamer. They all have their goods and bads where vision is concerned with roku being slightly better
@MrOmega52 Apple TV so far is the only streaming device which has the color manipulation, zoom, font size/choice, sound, and many other Accessibility controls уоυ desire. The color controls can even be adjusted to help those with various kinds of color-blindness see better contrast. Apple TVs robust Settings features always get overlooked in brand comparison. It’s well worth the price difference, which isn't that much more than other brands’ top of the line models. Plus it has the best security, privacy, and service (on the Apple help line or at any Apple Store) along with no intrusive ads from the OS. Is there a reason why уоυ have been avoiding it?
I really really miss the opportunity to search for new small app/channels, but you can’t do that anymore. A section that lists apps posted the previous day, perhaps, would be cool, but I know Roku only wants us to go to the major media apps. I think that’s why that disappeared.
There are two main reasons that they eliminated this feature, which I also miss. Copyright infringement and p***, neither one of which they want on their platform.
I bought a 55 inch TCL HDR ROKU and my sister saw the decent picture and decided to get one for about $300 a couple years ago. Hers lasted a little over a year before the picture went black. I was too ill to go and even try to remedy the situation sadly. Then about 2 months ago, my ROKU would try to come on when I hit the remote and after it finally did, it would shut down almost immediately.😮 I found that when it does that , to go into my settings and restart it by going to settings - system - power - restart and that seems to give me a couple weeks of normal use until its time to run the system restart again. I shouldn't hafta be using this work around for a TV that's not even 3 years old. I assume one day it'll putz put permanently so, until then.... 🤷🏾🙏🏻???
I don’t mind some changes. I hope they add beautiful pictures to the Home Screen, and more animations. It would even be nice to make your own picture your Home Screen and maybe change the font colors. I don’t even mind muted live ads. However, If they make those ads unblockable or slather Disney all over the screen I will personally trash every roku item I own and just use smart tv and cast to the tv from my phone.
i would like the ability to specifically select the installed apps i want on different roku devices i own... there are apps i want on my roku but dont want on my children's roku. if certain apps on my roku are not installed on my children's roku i dont have to worry about parental controls.
TP-Link hacking is up and its Chinese hackers that are accessing devices with inside administrative credentials that only TP-Link would have. So, it is suspicious.
If Roku ever adds ads to the players when videos are paused it when the stick starts up, I'll drop it and never touch it again. It's not as if they don't already make money, from subscription fulfilments and the apps themselves paying to be there and the cost of the player

I would happily pay a little more for a Roku device which allowed me to eliminate the ads and other bloatware that Roku insists on permanently sticking on my home screen. In a perfect world, I would want the same level of control over my Roku's home screen that I have over my Android telephone's home screen.
@GodaNoBaka Other than the preview of the content one highlights, Apple TV has no advertising in its OS and a minimalist clean view, with several options of display from a selection menu or Home Screen folder arrangement (much like iOS). Уоυ might want to check it out next time уоυ’re near an Apple Store. It sounds like this is what уоυ want Roku to be.
@@ajsherer1887 Yeah, I'm familiar with Apple TV. It may have the prettier UI, but it is not the optimal solution for my use case. I don't have an additional HDMI port to plug it into, and I don't have anything I'm willing to sacrifice at this point just for a prettier UI.
I really would like the ROKU OS to be able to add a VPN channel - such as NordVPN or ExpressVPN .. also, it would be very nice to be able to add the Amazon Audible Channel.
It's the VPN company that needs to create a Roku app. Not the other way round. Contact the VPN companies and ask them if they have any plans. Same for Amazon Audible.

For Amazon Prime Video, I think the only way to see that info, is to access it from the Amazon APV page in a browser and that's probably true (accessing each from their own browser page) for most of the others уоυ can't get to see from Roku. Either that or access those streamers from their mobile apps.
I would like for Roku to just show the Apps in a one line LIST view instead of the big clunky boxes. I know the Apps like their Trademarked Logo to be shown, but a LIST view would be easier to use. Make it sortable by assigned Favorites or Alphabetical or recently accessed.
Roku update on my TV isn't working "unable to update" message appears and I cannot access my TV without disconnecting everything, rebooting 3 times. UGH!!
I want users to be able to LOCK the home screen to prevent Roku from screwing with it. I don't want themes changing on their own. I don't want 'special features' displaying. I want things to stay the way I set them and not how some coding wonk thinks they should be.
I have the streaming device I don't have the Roku TV I had to upgrade my system five times but I do have a TV monitor to hook up the Roku. It was ridiculous I was like pushing upgrade over and over again it won't let me stop the upgrade

I'd like them to enable the ability to MUTE the weird sounds that happen when I start up apps like RUclipsTV and Netflix, just to mention a few. There must be a way to mute the first few seconds at startup. I know...complain complain complain, I just mute it manually...I really like the ability to simplify the launch screen. So much easier than Amazon's Fire Stick. What a mess that thing is...
I hate that you can't turn off Peacocks autoplay on Roku devices. Customer service is a big joke, they keep blaming one another and brushing me off. Their technicians or software developers can't do the job they were hired for.
@atinwoodsman Pretty much any current smart TV platform has the ability to mirror from a computing device (phone or tablet too) browser, so they don't need to have a built-in browser.

The tp link ban 😭 I believe that it was 2 years ago my parents got the tp link deco mesh system and and now my it still is the family PC but we just moved it into my bedroom with my desk that was in my room then we took it out then put it in the family room because the sewing table wasn't cutting it with a giant desktop PC so it was out in the trailer and brought it in put it in the family room for a while then it was in the old kitchen for a little bit but my Mum and I was talking about it and we decided to move it into my room and we originally said that we were gonna do it after Christmas but we ultimately just done it now before Christmas and at times I have to restart my computer just to get reconnected to the Internet and I literally mean restart my computer just to get it to reconnect with the Internet and I'm an online special needs student with TECCA which is the Massachusetts provision of connections academy and just this year my Mum had to get me a stronger computer and got me th hp elite desk and it disconnects from the Internet on its own and I have to restart it so it can connect to it again 😭 not good when you have only 5 minutes before you have your first conference call in the morning
Good content, but you may want to look into scripting it somewhat and putting it on a teleprompter or equivalent. Your impromptu approach with (apparently) index cards sounds aurally disjointed. Not everyone can speak off the cuff well.

Yeah, much like I do with my music streams. I use folders for say: Rock Genre, and Title and Artists and movie genre... :)
Why would you need that many channels though? I have maybe 4 apps/channels that I use and that's it, I don't even have to scroll.

Honestly, I wouldn’t change anything about Roku. It’s very easy to navigate with the simplest remote possible.

One thing they need to change is giving the user the option to view the settings while in apps not just at the home screen
Not sure which settings exactly you want while in the app, but while in apps, while watching any program, you can access some by hitting the * button.

it may be the slowest cpu is put in those cheap 32in tv, not the OS. Lots of people are happy with roku os.

@@ajsherer1887 thanks for your suggestion. sadly invalid. we are one household. with one account to login with. there is no other account for the other users in the household to login or out of. just mine, which is shared with them, and the only way any of the streaming services can be accesed. Also. apple tv's are 150, roku's are 15. i have 10 rokus in the house. Do you want to donate 1500 to replace them all?
I like my Roku devices and remotes. They are a great gateway for apps like Netflix and Sling. One feature I would like added is a Bluetooth connection to my hearing aids while still using the TV’s audio.
I would like to see the most used apps float to the top of the Home Screen and least used go to the bottom. Also, would like to see the placing of apps on the Home Screen be synced across all Roku devices so they’re consistently placed the same across devices.
I can see where some people might find those features useful. Personally neither one strikes me as particularly useful, so I hope that if implemented they would make them optional.
Many of us are rather careful about how we organize our channels, using whatever arcane criteria might apply. Having the device screwing up my preferred arrangement would not be good!
Synching arrangements across Roku devices is another one that might be useful to some, but should be optional. What about those with children, for example, who might want a different arrangement on the device in their bedroom than on the one in the living room? If the arrangements are synced automatically, that would be difficult or impossible.
Yea on syncing home screen tiles across multiple devices... it's a real PITA having to go to nine different players to manually sync any changes (or bring a new player up to speed). Being able to rearrange and sync devices via the app would be a big plus... they already show the tile grid for each device in the app, and the app serves as a remote control. Shouldn't be a big stretch to allow rearrangement of tiles via the app.
Big nay on the auto-arranging... don't need them mucking things up after I've got it set how I want. It's bad enough that they already sneak in unwanted apps from time to time... just like they keep adding stupid crap to the home menu that I have to delete.

What Roku should do is have people take a survey and see what Roku needs to improve not only with their devices but tech support. Let’s face it Roku ‘s customer service is awful they tell you to do this but it never fixes the problem. Roku just do a survey to help determine what needs to be improved overall . Let’s face it the hardware in their devices is what’s bad. They need better hardware in their devices. We today have routers that are much more powerful and the Roku devices can’t even handle the routers. The other problem with Roku is they never do a regular checkup on the apps to make sure that these apps are still available to use.
I would like to see a way to add storage space as a thumb drive like Amazon fire stick has.
I wish it would show "continue watching" when you highlight the channel Icon on the home screen. Kind of like how the Fire stick does.

I have a roku TV 70" uhd HDR 10 and a firetvstick connected in my living room. and in my bedroom I have a smart TV and I have firestick connected and a roku stick connected and I watch Roku more because I don't have to worry about storage capacity like firestick does 😊

The Roku phone app allows you to listen to the Roku output through your hearing aids. You just need your hearing aids to be connected to your phone's Bluetooth.

I have had a Roku for four years now, if my memory serves me correctly. The f Roku adds additional ads and especially if they can’t be stopped or skipped I will probably move to the Apple counter part. I think those devices don’t have ads, but I would need to research to know for sure
There are NO Ads on the Apple 4k...the home screen is gloriously 'quiet'.
Roku is number one bc they have remained simple and easy to use...

I use Rokus for secondary accounts, apps I otherwise don't have, and for the Roku Channel (without having to mirror), but nothing beats my Apple TVs for ease of operation, OS design, features, security, privacy, support, regularly added system feature updates, setting controls, lack of advertising, audio and video quality.

All of these streamers need to help people like me with vision problem, ,making it easier for us to see things on the screen where colors are concerned. I own fire tv, roku, and google 4k streamer. They all have their goods and bads where vision is concerned with roku being slightly better

Apple TV so far is the only streaming device which has the color manipulation, zoom, font size/choice, sound, and many other Accessibility controls уоυ desire. The color controls can even be adjusted to help those with various kinds of color-blindness see better contrast. Apple TVs robust Settings features always get overlooked in brand comparison. It’s well worth the price difference, which isn't that much more than other brands’ top of the line models. Plus it has the best security, privacy, and service (on the Apple help line or at any Apple Store) along with no intrusive ads from the OS.

I really really miss the opportunity to search for new small app/channels, but you can’t do that anymore. A section that lists apps posted the previous day, perhaps, would be cool, but I know Roku only wants us to go to the major media apps. I think that’s why that disappeared.
There are two main reasons that they eliminated this feature, which I also miss. Copyright infringement and p***, neither one of which they want on their platform.

Celebrating Christmas immediate family on December 25th.Then my Mom's side at my aunts on the 29th.
I bought a 55 inch TCL HDR ROKU and my sister saw the decent picture and decided to get one for about $300 a couple years ago. Hers lasted a little over a year before the picture went black. I was too ill to go and even try to remedy the situation sadly. Then about 2 months ago, my ROKU would try to come on when I hit the remote and after it finally did, it would shut down almost immediately.😮 I found that when it does that , to go into my settings and restart it by going to settings - system - power - restart and that seems to give me a couple weeks of normal use until its time to run the system restart again. I shouldn't hafta be using this work around for a TV that's not even 3 years old. I assume one day it'll putz put permanently so, until then.... 🤷🏾🙏🏻???
I'd like the option to list apps alphabetically, most used, or favorites. Also a list view with smaller icons.

I don’t mind some changes. I hope they add beautiful pictures to the Home Screen, and more animations. It would even be nice to make your own picture your Home Screen and maybe change the font colors. I don’t even mind muted live ads. However, If they make those ads unblockable or slather Disney all over the screen I will personally trash every roku item I own and just use smart tv and cast to the tv from my phone.

If Roku ever adds ads to the players when videos are paused it when the stick starts up, I'll drop it and never touch it again. It's not as if they don't already make money, from subscription fulfilments and the apps themselves paying to be there and the cost of the player

I would happily pay a little more for a Roku device which allowed me to eliminate the ads and other bloatware that Roku insists on permanently sticking on my home screen. In a perfect world, I would want the same level of control over my Roku's home screen that I have over my Android telephone's home screen.
You can remove a lot of the useless menu stuff from the settings (Home screen). I have, and it's a lot cleaner.

Other than the preview of the content one highlights, Apple TV has no advertising in its OS and a minimalist clean view, with several options of display from a selection menu or Home Screen folder arrangement (much like iOS). Уоυ might want to check it out next time уоυ’re near an Apple Store. It sounds like this is what уоυ want Roku to be.
@@ajsherer1887 Yeah, I'm familiar with Apple TV. It may have the prettier UI, but it is not the optimal solution for my use case. I don't have an additional HDMI port to plug it into, and I don't have anything I'm willing to sacrifice at this point just for a prettier UI.

It's the VPN company that needs to create a Roku app. Not the other way round. Contact the VPN companies and ask them if they have any plans. Same for Amazon Audible.

That depends on the streaming service.
For Amazon Prime Video, I think the only way to see that info, is to access it from the Amazon APV page in a browser and that's probably true (accessing each from their own browser page) for most of the others уоυ can't get to see from Roku. Either that or access those streamers from their mobile apps.
I would like for Roku to just show the Apps in a one line LIST view instead of the big clunky boxes. I know the Apps like their Trademarked Logo to be shown, but a LIST view would be easier to use. Make it sortable by assigned Favorites or Alphabetical or recently accessed.
We need everything to be commercial free. Commercials don't make me buy products. Quite the opposite, actually.

Roku update on my TV isn't working "unable to update" message appears and I cannot access my TV without disconnecting everything, rebooting 3 times. UGH!!
I want users to be able to LOCK the home screen to prevent Roku from screwing with it. I don't want themes changing on their own. I don't want 'special features' displaying. I want things to stay the way I set them and not how some coding wonk thinks they should be.

I have the streaming device I don't have the Roku TV I had to upgrade my system five times but I do have a TV monitor to hook up the Roku. It was ridiculous I was like pushing upgrade over and over again it won't let me stop the upgrade

Most units allow users to upgrade to their top rechargeable voice remote - $30/USD, when not on sale. No batteries to replace. It’s the best remote they’ve got. They sell it on their Roku site store. Perhaps it will be good enough for уоυ.

I'd like them to enable the ability to MUTE the weird sounds that happen when I start up apps like RUclipsTV and Netflix, just to mention a few. There must be a way to mute the first few seconds at startup. I know...complain complain complain, I just mute it manually...I really like the ability to simplify the launch screen. So much easier than Amazon's Fire Stick. What a mess that thing is...
Yep it was like Netflix started it one time with stranger things show and just left it then the other services followed suit with the startup sound.
I hate that you can't turn off Peacocks autoplay on Roku devices. Customer service is a big joke, they keep blaming one another and brushing me off. Their technicians or software developers can't do the job they were hired for.
I'm just not a fan of the closed OS of Roku, imho any Smart TV platform should at least have a web browser built in

Pretty much any current smart TV platform has the ability to mirror from a computing device (phone or tablet too) browser, so they don't need to have a built-in browser.

Nope why i like roku over the other just showing my apps i donloaded on the screen nothing else. Like the other companies clutter up there home screens with other recommendations and all that all stuff that I don't care about or apps that are pre loaded that you can not delete.
The tp link ban 😭 I believe that it was 2 years ago my parents got the tp link deco mesh system and and now my it still is the family PC but we just moved it into my bedroom with my desk that was in my room then we took it out then put it in the family room because the sewing table wasn't cutting it with a giant desktop PC so it was out in the trailer and brought it in put it in the family room for a while then it was in the old kitchen for a little bit but my Mum and I was talking about it and we decided to move it into my room and we originally said that we were gonna do it after Christmas but we ultimately just done it now before Christmas and at times I have to restart my computer just to get reconnected to the Internet and I literally mean restart my computer just to get it to reconnect with the Internet and I'm an online special needs student with TECCA which is the Massachusetts provision of connections academy and just this year my Mum had to get me a stronger computer and got me th hp elite desk and it disconnects from the Internet on its own and I have to restart it so it can connect to it again 😭 not good when you have only 5 minutes before you have your first conference call in the morning
Good content, but you may want to look into scripting it somewhat and putting it on a teleprompter or equivalent. Your impromptu approach with (apparently) index cards sounds aurally disjointed. Not everyone can speak off the cuff well.

My Roku TV is used only as a computer monitor. It has not been allowed to see the Internet since their "agree to the update or buy a new TV" stunt.
They do work great as a computer monitor, and are a better value than ordinary monitors.
