The nintendo hack was actually pretty crazy. Nintendo is really stingy with their source code so it prevented a lot of advances in old games like sm64 and zelda and it helped the speedrunning community.
I suspect I'm in the minority, but I really feel like learning information from a hack cheapens the speedrun community. There's a certain beauty to all these people getting together to find and share strategies and advice they've gained through collective years of trial and error - if you can just crack the game open and find the exploits in the code, I feel like it really ruins the whole thing. Maybe I'm just old.
