you cant really do much to them. most professors are under contract and have immunity from ever being fired for their lifetime. if they were fired, they would sue, collect money for it, then a judge would order them reinstated. you might be able to suspend them "with" pay, but they would probably count that as a perk.

Public awareness is very powerful. Even if all these schools do is stop funding the Israelis, then something great will have been achieved. Our students don't protest, it's exam period. Those who are at the end of their studies must defend their diploma thesis and take the state final exam in the field. There is no time for any protests.

@@g_4784 I totally agree. I meant to include that in my original comment. I wish there was a way to get aid to them directly. My focus was really on challenging student protesters to leave their comfortable lives and do the hard work. It's dirty, it's dangerous, and it doesn't pay well, but that's how they can they can truly make a difference in the lives of the people they claim to support.

There are volunteer groups who are actively going into Gaza right now to provide direct aid to casualties on both sides, yet I don't see very many willing participants from this Columbia crowd.

I'm a free believer in free speech. But i also believe that free speech doesn't mean hate speech. Nobody Jewish or otherwise should walk down the street and feel discriminated against, insulted, or threatened. Suspension is too lenient. They should be expelled. And the faculty protecting them should be fired and lose their license to teach in this country.
Those professors as well as the school board will have to look elsewhere for jobs, because by the looks of it they will end up suspending half of the students that are enrolled.
Columbia has more than 35,000 students enrolled. Does this look like half? 🙄

The protesters aren't the kids getting loans. They're rich kids whose parents are funding their education. The kids relying on scholarships and loans aren't wasting the incredible gift they've been given.
The US government should take steps to protect its citizens by closing the borders and stop foreign policy prioritization over domestic policy. The institutions and elected officials in America are more concerned with foreign affairs than domestic. 34 trillion in national debt.
