I used Brian Jeffery's excellent Tecla edition for this recording available from the link below.

After the Sor 20 studies and the Carcassi 25 studies I asked you all what you'd like next... You asked me to record the set of 24 Giuliani etudes Op.48 and I hope this is a useful resource for students.
The full title of this work when it was first published in 1813 was "Exercise for the guitar, containing 24 pieces of the greatest difficulty, including various preludes, passaggi and solo pieces." Over 200 years later, by today's standards, I don't think one could describe these pieces as "of the greatest difficulty" although as you will hear there are some extremely difficult sections!
I would like to thank D'addario strings for their support. If you are curious I am using the Pro Arte medium tension EJ45.
The guitar that I am playing is my usual 2009 Jean Noel Rohe. (Strasbourg)
I hope that you enjoy hearing these studies, please subscribe, leave your comments and if you like it don't forget to give a thumbs up!

Even after watching the whole video several times, I can’t get enough of this amazing performance.
Thank you so much!
This guy is a real master, every time I want a demonstration of a piece he always comes up in the youtube search and kills it!
Thanks 👍😊
You are one of the most talented serious guitarists I have ever heard and watched. Your playing is sheer mastery and brilliance. You and Edson Lopez are the geniuses of our age. I wish you recognition , comprehensive success and a long playing career.
Thank you for two very kind comments. You can divide 14 by 3 to get my daily hours! I think it's important to have other interests in one's life other than the guitar, but it has always been and always will be my first love and it is no effort for me to give it this amount of time! There are many players that can do what I do, and many who are better, but I'm thankful for what I have. And Edson is great!
Ah yes . Per!
This recording is a GIFT to aspiring guitar students everywhere!
David, you are THE MAN!! Most of these....no ALL of these are pretty darn tough!!!
Leaves a lot of Carcassi studies in the dirt!!
🤣 thanks for watching, Robert!
Guliiani op 48 complete: I never seen performance like that. No sheet music, concentration perfect , both hand coordination perfect. I give you 10/10 thank you very much your the best ( projection son )
Bernard 🇨🇦 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wow, what a remark! :)
Don't think anyone can improve on this .......too perfect david
I'm sure many can, but thank you for your comment!
I'm impressed; I'm speechless. it's so flawless, By God you must be gifted.
Thanks Felix. 🙏
This video really needs to be around guitarrest students all around the world. Excellent. Thanks
You know, when you have over 10% of your subscribers watching your videos, you are attracting the right kind of attention, which you deserve.
Thanks Jon.
Sat back in my chair with my eyes closed just listening. Truly wonderful!
Thanks Andy
Thanks so much for putting them all together. Every one played beautifully and with sincerity. I think we should all club together and get you a new tie for your efforts 😉
I like that tie!!
It's your secret perhaps no tie, no perfection 🦓
It’s his lucky tie, please do not mess with it! 🙂
Brilliant playing... get significant other to help with tie
🤣
You must be playing and practising at least 14 hours a day. You are a saint of the guitar to single mindedly devote your life in such a worthy cause. God grant that you reach all the pinnacles of recognition , success and a long, very long performing career.
I knew once I started to watch it would carry me to the end and back to the beginning again... so I waited until the time was right ; and I was right too. . . Beautiful :) 20 made me have moist eyes both times I cant explain why some music makes me cry. L. Cohens songs sometimes make me cry too. Thank you for sharing your music so freely. I am too shy to perform and always prefer to watch.
Thanks so much Zoe. From what I've seen on your channel you shouldn't be shy! A great voice!
Whoa. This is a knock out.
Thanks. Pleasure to watch and take it in.
Thanks. . More to come!
This is great having all the Giuliani performances in one video - a great reference tool. Many thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Is it any wonder that Beethoven referred to him as the Divine Giuliani? ♥️👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Beethoven also said, "there's an entire orchestra within the guitar".
absolutely perfectly o my god for the student you are a light
Glad it's useful 😀👍
So here I am, I just completed Le Papillon Op.50 N.13 and feeling proud of my playing. I said to myself, "okay, let's learn some more Giuliani!". Then I came across your video and I'm like, "uhh.......Whoa" lol Brilliant and incredible performance!!! Bravo!
Thanks! Hope this is helpful to you.
@@davidjaggs Very much so, thank you. It's highly inspirational.
Grazie per la condivisione e comprensione dei brani con relative espressioni.

spectacular sound and very well played, as always! 👍👍👍👍

I am a guitar player myself and I have to say "my hat" to this performance. This guy deserves to get more attention. Some of the pieces out of OP. 48 I play myself. Was not aware to the whole opus, I admit.
That's very kind, GJ, thanks for taking the time to comment so kindly.
@@davidjaggs You are welcome. Did you ever consider to perform opus 7 of M. Giuliani?
Not yet... I did perform a selection of Carcassi studies a couple of years ago and of course some Villa Lobos studies a long time back!
Just fantastic! Thank you for the great music ❤️
Thanks for watching 👍
Beautiful playing, thanks for sharing!
Thanks!

Thanks for watching!
Thank you for share...
👍
this is wonderful for study! thank you again.
Thanks
That is brilliant , your dexterity and playing is fantastic from one who has short stubby fingers and thin finger nails 🙄🙂
Have a look at Segovia's fingers!! It'll give you confidence!
DPJFILMS
I’m a failed guitarist at 73 but get so much enjoyment from your and your colleges playing . Yes I know what you mean about Segovia’s fingers , what a player so was Julian Bream, who used to do accompaniment to a silent silhouette puppet show in the late fifties early sixties on TV, which got me to appreciate classical guitar. Thank you for all your great videos🙂👍👏👏👏👏
@@csnelling4 Didn't know about the puppets!!
Wow! Thank you for this it was wonderful!
Thanks for watching Vincenzo. ☺

I hate to flatter, praise, softsoap, sweettalk so I will just mention that I did not know this work before.
Now I can't wait to play it. And to work on my sound.
Thanks Lars. I hope you enjoy playing it. 👍
@@davidjaggs Thank you. I will. Allthough in a slightly more restrained tempi than those in your recordings :-D

What an achievement David! I shall find it hard to not have new pieces each week! Well done.
Thanks.. I'll try to get some more down soon. I'm introducing a fantastic new guitarist soon. Watch this space!
All of it is super great; everything stands out but the guitar is very special. It is a lovely instrument.
Thanks Stephen. Last night I recorded Granados Spanish Dance no.5 and it sounded better than ever. I'll upload it soon.
@davidjaggs I just discovered this wonderful recording and wonder what guitar you are playing.
Hi, it's a Jean Noel Rohe 2009.
@@davidjaggs wonderful guitar
Very good!😊
Thanks for watching 👍
# 20 is SWEET!!
👍
cool, thanks
Thanks for watching 👍
@@davidjaggs your, welcome I'm slowly getting to this point its always good to here what the pieces sound like from someone who can play well. Do you perform or teach music or both? I'm currently learning F Sor Op 60, 25 progressive etude's and up to study 9
Yes, I perform but not as often as before covid, and I teach online a little.
Astounding!
Thanks for watching Pablo 👍
@@davidjaggs I wonder how you’d do Giuliani’s Allegretto op. 111 part I nº4, the one in 6/8 that starts with B C D \ G. For some reason, it’s my favourite Giuliani piece, and often play it.
@@pabzum so many pieces, so little time!
Exelente!!!
Thanks 👍😊
Extramundal expierience to see and to hear your enthralling performance on guitar.
Thank you Andre.
Great job David. I would like to see you do his Fughetta sometime. It’s a lovely piece but i am a newbie so out of my league... for the moment.
....for the moment. ..👍
It incrotable to play guitar like that ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Bernard Québec 🇨🇦
Thank you.
Concerto Cadenza in Study No.16...!
And 14 too, plus one of the others... cant recall which, maybe 13!
Sorry, it's 19. You might not recognise it from the concerto, but it's from the extended original version.
COOL!!!👏👏👏
Thanks
Genius
Thanks!
Sehr schön!🌹
Thanks for watching 👍
Fantastic! Should I study each one in order? Thank you for your help.
Not necessarily. Look at your technique. ..what needs improving? Then find a study to match. Carcassi studies are great too... they stick to the particular technique more rigidly.
*also I want to add; what a great method
Lots of great ideas in it Orhan!
Wow! And NOT easy!!
Nothing is easy!
Excelente !!!!!
Thanks Ivan. That means a great deal coming from you. Do you remember we met back in 1988?! The day after you played Barrios in a masterclass.
Then you dress smart and play these I have to watch, it's really quite unbelievable!
Amazingly, I hadn't heard these before! I am about order Guiliani's method from Tecla, I'll check to see if these are included, and if not order them as well - I think they are sold separately too. Very nice playing =)
Thank you Peter. I don't think that the studies in the method. There's a thick blue book called the complete studies for guitar.
If you do a Google search you can download all of these and many more for free as they are in the public domain.
I have to laugh when I hear people talking about Hendrix being the greatest ever guitarist. Obviously these people are completely unaware of the classical guitar world. I know it is a different genre , but REALLY, come on. Brilliant. playing maestro Jaggs.
Influential would be a good word, which brings me to my next video..... thanks for watching 👍🙏👍
wonderful! In what order of difficulty do you recommend me to learn these studies? excellent work
Generally the easier ones are in the first half of the book.. no.5 is a good starter. thanks for watching 👍
