The scene with the whole team coming together here is so beautiful, one of the most emotionally satisfying scenes I've seen in any show. She had alienated both Benny and Harry but when Townes called they dropped everything to help her. For them to have started at 4 am in New York, Townes would have had to call at pretty much midnight in Moscow, which is around 4 pm in New York. Then Harry would have had to start driving within the hour, picking up Matt and Mike before he left town, and driving all night to make it to New York by 4 am.
I really really like the scene where she strokes his hair back out of nowhere and it excites the audience and shocks him. That scene is great for a lot of reasons. 1. it's amazing that she makes the first move. 2. it's the perfect reaction to him giving her a talk over her drinking habits. She doesn't want to hear it, so she completely ignores the valid argument he's making and instead takes them somewhere completely different.
We got something better, he called her during her match and he was with a group of American players who went over her position to help her. That's real love, and loyalty.
The way Beth says “Benny” when he calls her in russia warms my heart. She doesn’t notice until then how much she misses him and how important he’s become to her.
We need an explication why he lives like that, and why he’s struggling with money, I feel like he’s taking care of his mom or something like that, i don’t know why but I feel like there is a sad deep backstory to him.
I JUST realized that in the last scene beth is dressed in all white like the actual queen piece in chess (said by the costume designer) and benny is also wearing all black like the king piece?!? Might be a coincidence but idk👀
I love the fact that Netflix loved this comment. Benny also wears his hat less after Beth beats him in Ohio, he only had very 4 minor shots of him wearing the hat, so in a way she dethroned him. Idk if the costume designers confirmed this with Benny’s black cowboy attire but its too obvious not to point out
Beth said 'This will do nicely' when she sat on her bed at the Moscow hotel. Her foster mother said the same thing when she took Beth shopping and bought her cheap and out of date cloth and shoes.
I loved how they didn't make Beth unbeateable and omipotent. Sure, she was the most talented player in there, but this show actually tells us, that talent can only get you so far. It took her more than 10 years, from being a 9 years old genius, to actuall world champion. I really enjoyed her struggles(on the chess board that is). Not only she lost her first game with Benny, he also humililated her in a speed chess the first time. Also, I was really surprised, how guys that she's beaten helped her later in her life. Beltic did it, cause he was in love with her. When he realised, that she doesn't love him back and he can't help her more in chess, he stepped down and left. Respect. And Benny, for him it was all chess. He didn't fall for Beth, but admired her talent and realised that she could beat the Russian with proper help.
@@mvtm20 Well, me too. Look all around. It's 2021. All you can see is people trying to get looking better. Sure, it's important. Beth herself loves fashion. It's part of her transition. But it's not the most important part. I think nowadays people are too focused on body/flesh. I always fell for the actresses that aren't exactly the best looking, but had that "something"... Trying not to be brutal, I can give you an example of Megan Fox and Carey Mulligan. On the paper, Megan is much more prettier. But I was totally "in love" with Carey for many years. It's about witt. And Beth has plenty of it. And so does Benny.
The moment that Beth's Mom accidentally calls him 'Bobby' instead of Benny, I knew they were creating a character that was a tribute to Bobby Fisher hahah. The actor playing Benny plays him so well!
I think that when Beth and Benny finally slept together Benny realized he had feelings for her, but then with that realization he panicked and his mind went back to chess, something he’s always known.
Both valid points, but it's literally just post nut clarity, happens to every dude! "I wonder what he's thinking about?" "The Olympics should have a 'For Fun' section at the end of all the games so all the athletes can try different sports."

I wish we could have seen more of Benny's character cause it's soooo complex and his relationship with Beth is something I could talk about for hours and still wouldn't be sure if I want them as a couple or not

There are many powerful scenes in this series, but I just love the last scene in this video where Benny slowly picks up the phone, gives a subtle nod, and the other guys burst into happiness. Gets me every time..
I had a Benny. Looked and dressed and acted so much like him. Pushed him away and missed him really bad when this show came out. We just got back together.
Upon rewatching the series it becomes clearer that the whole point behind the Beth Harmon character is her total inability to connect with other people because she had such a screwed up childhood. The closest thing she had to a father was Mr. Schaibel, who was also incapable of human connection. At the end of the series Beth is finally free. I just want to add that one of my favorite moments is at the Cincinnati Open when Beth introduces herself to her first opponent who responds, "oh shit!"
At first I thought it was a documentary on chess. Clicked out of boredom.. was not disappointed. I’ve watched it 3x now. It’s such a great movie/show 😊
@Albert Boris Borgov works as the black king too, saw a tweet that pretty much says that the characters are all chess pieces for different/more than one game. Like Benny and Harry are knights. I think Benny is a knight (cowboy=horse) but he definitely works as a black king as well, especially with his hat acts like a crown, after Beth beats him he wears his hat less
@@Freezient i see that but the king needs protection and is useless on its own. meanwhile the only piece that can really get to a queen is a knight and benny was the only one who succeeded at getting beth sober. there was a scene where beth gets drunk while on her pills for the first time and the black queen grows to overshadow beth. i think that was the moment beth became a black queen
@@ashleyrocke4144 Ooh that make sense, I have to ask a general chess question, can the King moves anywhere freely like the king or is it stuck in one place. Also Cleo works as a Black Queen too, since she (un)intentionally sabotages Beth when she was suppose to prepare for her big game the next day
The fact that she hates Benny at the beginning of their story where in the end I was really hoping they fall in love with each other just because of the do you still like my hair scene bwahaha!!!!!!! Perfect couple for Season 2 though!!!!
Half the fans think they have sibling energy, half ship them as a couple. Either way, their chemistry on screen is amazing and we need to see more of them together if possible, in other projects if not this.
I've played chess my whole life so when I watched this show it was really awesome to see how accurate all of the chess stuff was portrayed. I'd say 85%-90% of everything chess-related which they presented in the show was realistic and accurate. However I did notice one inaccuracy which occurs in the scene at 2:54 (On Netflix this happens at Episode 6, 1:06). Here's what Beth and Benny say, with modern algebraic chess notation in parenthesis to help follow along: Benny: Pawn to King 4 (1. e4) Beth: Pawn to Queen Bishop 4 (1... c5) Benny: N to KB3 (2. Nf3) Beth: Pawn to Queen 3 (2... d6) Benny: P to Q4 (3. d4) Beth: Pawn takes pawn (3... cxd4) Benny: Knight takes (4. Nxd4) Beth: Knight King Bishop 3 (4... Nf6) Benny: N to QB3 (5. Nc3) Beth: Pawn to King's Knight 3 (5... g6) Benny: P to B4 (6. f4) The inaccuracy comes in the next two lines of dialogue: Beth: P to B4 (see notes below) Benny: The Levenfish, never liked it... There are a few things wrong with these last two lines, no matter how you interpret them. First of all, what Beth says ("P to B4") would indicate that she wanted to play 6... f5, but this is illegal because of the knight on f6, so this is not a legal move. Second of all, Benny and Beth entered the starting position of the Levenfish the moment Benny played 6. f4. He was the one that chose to play the Levenfish variation, so it wouldn't make sense for him to play it and then say that he "never liked it." Anyway, this was one of the only chess inaccuracies I could find in the entire show, and it is a very tiny one that I'm sure even many experienced chess players would miss. Great job Netflix!
My take on their relationship at the end of the series, having watched it three times, is I'm convinced the main reason Benny helped Harmon in the end was he knew she was their country's best shot at beating the Russians. Of course he was fond of her but he didn't gather the troops so much to win her heart as he did it for all the US grandmasters that came before him, who had played second fiddle to the Russians for generations. Benny was, after all, a chess prodigy and the sanctuary the game provided for him increased after Beth went home instead of returning to be with him. At that juncture, he realized she was his mirror image in female form. Someone whose heart was reserved for those 64 squares and no suitor would likely ever replace it. Not him, nor any of the other fellas who rushed to her side. They were all smitten with her but Benny understood the inevitability of Beth, so he came to the board's rescue, not hers.
Yes, he wants US's grandmasters work as a team to support Beth and beat Rusia's. What got me is that how mature they are. After the emotional "Don't you call me anymore", he called her first with the rescue squad. Their main connection is those 64 squares.

man tells beth while on top of her, "You should play the sicillian"
Maybe that was a euphemism for something else.
Girl everybody likes his hair😂
Okay but the fact that he wears a feather in his hat and she wears a headband with feather pattern is amazing 🥰🥰😂
This series quickly became one of my favourite Tv shows on Netflix ✨
What I like the most about these series is the value for teamwork. That final scene gets me every time ❤
I personally wanted Beth to end up with Benny, not that creepy Townes guy
She doesn't end up with Townes. He is just a friend when he visits her.
Townes is gay, obviously.
@@nicanornunez9787 so its not just me who thought that
I'm halfway thru the novel and it doesn't seem like harry nor townes really play a major role in her life more than benny did.
@@kannachanak good! Please update me if she ends up with Beth 💖
benny was badass here, just like in the maze runner

Dude Thomas is such a good actor in everything
There are many powerful scenes in this series, but I just love the last scene in this video where Benny slowly picks up the phone, gives a subtle nod, and the other guys burst into happiness. Gets me every time..
I had a Benny. Looked and dressed and acted so much like him. Pushed him away and missed him really bad when this show came out. We just got back together.
They have such good chemistry, they’re entire scene before hooking up gave me butterflies
The fact that we never got a kiss from them
Thomas Brodie Sangster a great actor I have enjoyed watching his talent grow wonderfully. I never disappointed in his acting!
He's supposed to look like a pirate but doesn't he look like a cowboy or is it just me
It's the hat
@@milacruz3970 I agree
I feel like he’s both
It's the hat, but when he doesn't wear it he looks like a pirate
It's the hat, but when he doesn't wear it he looks like a pirate
Upon rewatching the series it becomes clearer that the whole point behind the Beth Harmon character is her total inability to connect with other people because she had such a screwed up childhood. The closest thing she had to a father was Mr. Schaibel, who was also incapable of human connection. At the end of the series Beth is finally free. I just want to add that one of my favorite moments is at the Cincinnati Open when Beth introduces herself to her first opponent who responds, "oh shit!"
The last scene defines the joy of success.
Can you please explain what happened in the last scene i don’t understand what happened😅
Literally every guy Beth met fell in love with her lol
the chemistry they have is through the roof i am sobbing 😭
I'm so glad that thomas is finally getting more roles!
At first I thought it was a documentary on chess. Clicked out of boredom.. was not disappointed. I’ve watched it 3x now. It’s such a great movie/show 😊
I'm still so happy they gave indiana jones a cameo in this series, recycling makes this world truly a better place! ❤️
Anya Taylor was made to dress in that era 😍 hopefully she gets another amazing show 🙏🏽
I've been rewatching their scenes for the longest time when I could've just been watching this. Guess I'll be catching myself here a lot

The last scene I almost screamed 💀 they were so happy and cheering
The "do you still like my hair" scene is legendary
He's not a pirate...he's the black's king, duh.
Also Cleo works as a Black Queen too, since she (un)intentionally sabotages Beth when she was suppose to prepare for her big game the next day
@ANNIKA WHEELER Ah right. Thank you
Borgov.
The fact that she hates Benny at the beginning of their story where in the end I was really hoping they fall in love with each other just because of the do you still like my hair scene bwahaha!!!!!!! Perfect couple for Season 2 though!!!!
i cry if i think too hard about this show
Really loved the development of all the characters and how they’ve grown or become in this series. Really hits you in the feels ❤️
5:47 i think he didn’t know what to say, and the only thing he is comfortable with is chess, so he said something about chess idk
I thought so too! It didn't feel like a dick move to me.
I'm mind blown I was so sorry for beth when he was talking about chess that moment..But now I understand 😯
He wants her to succeed and be happy, because he is feeling the feels, but he is just a chess dork, so this is all he’s got. 😂
truuu
Post nut clarity hit him and gave him good ideas
I really need a second season with these two or I will cry
Netflix we need more screentime of Beth and Benny their chemistry🤧😍❤
when beth told benny that she likes his hair i practically yelled "I LOVE HIS HAIR TOO BETH"
Half the fans think they have sibling energy, half ship them as a couple. Either way, their chemistry on screen is amazing and we need to see more of them together if possible, in other projects if not this.
Watched this series twice now...stopped..started...stopped...started again... it's great
Same, first series I could ever literally go from episode 7 straight back to 1 with no problem.
Here's what Beth and Benny say, with modern algebraic chess notation in parenthesis to help follow along:
Benny: Pawn to King 4 (1. e4)
Beth: Pawn to Queen Bishop 4 (1... c5)
Benny: N to KB3 (2. Nf3)
Beth: Pawn to Queen 3 (2... d6)
Benny: P to Q4 (3. d4)
Beth: Pawn takes pawn (3... cxd4)
Benny: Knight takes (4. Nxd4)
Beth: Knight King Bishop 3 (4... Nf6)
Benny: N to QB3 (5. Nc3)
Beth: Pawn to King's Knight 3 (5... g6)
Benny: P to B4 (6. f4)
The inaccuracy comes in the next two lines of dialogue:
Beth: P to B4 (see notes below)
Benny: The Levenfish, never liked it...
There are a few things wrong with these last two lines, no matter how you interpret them. First of all, what Beth says ("P to B4") would indicate that she wanted to play 6... f5, but this is illegal because of the knight on f6, so this is not a legal move. Second of all, Benny and Beth entered the starting position of the Levenfish the moment Benny played 6. f4. He was the one that chose to play the Levenfish variation, so it wouldn't make sense for him to play it and then say that he "never liked it."
Anyway, this was one of the only chess inaccuracies I could find in the entire show, and it is a very tiny one that I'm sure even many experienced chess players would miss. Great job Netflix!
The scene with Beth and the men in her life all supporting her is so heart wrenching
The speed chess scene combined with the good music is one of the best scenes
Anya Taylor Joy was an absolute joy to watch
scrolling through the comments and love how Netflix is liking them 😂 glad they ship it too
*i cannot tell you how many times i’ve replayed the bed scene just to hear his breathing-*

Wanted to kick him so bad for her lol
That "Go beat him!" is so reassuring. It has such an impact.
They're both beautiful, I love them. The series is beautiful!! ❤️❤️❤️
Interesting that he beqts her with black every time, since black is generally considered a disadvantage.
I'm guessing it was a way to show how much of a great player he is.
I loved this show unfortunately don’t think they’re releasing another season lol
she already accomplished what she needed to do. Adding another season would be horrible
Well it was a miniseries and the story's been told to completion. There's no point of making another season.
