As always another great video! If you travel 4hrs east of Vancouver you'll arrive at Osoyoos, BC which is in the Okanagan Desert. Very little precipitation and very mild winters and a pretty decent selection of winter birds. You have to be careful crawling around though lots of prickly vegetation. Thanks again, for taking us on another outing, it's appreciated!
I'm very disappointed you didn't get in touch with me as I live in White Rock.😊 I look forward to Fridays when you post and I'm looking forward to seeing the other videos you took. Reifel is a great place for wintering ducks. I was born in the Black Country and used to visit quite often.
The Black Country, Midlands, UK? Quite a few people have offered to show me around Vancouver as a result of the YT film. Perhaps I should announce my trips in advance.
Well you were just across the border from me. I live in Island County, Washington just an hour's drive to the international border and quickly thereafter Vancouver, tho' I've not been there. These days I find Canada crossing is not a very nice experience. You use of the background music is nice, but I feel disconnected from the video, from the subjects in the video, and from the photographer photographing. Would you consider trying to use "natural" sounds at the place where you are filming? I'd like to hear that. By the way, thank you for sharing your 1995 trip to the Canadian Arctic. It gives me a different idea of who you are. It would be VERY interesting to see some of the images you took up on the tundra, esp. if it was in SUMMER!
Thanks Mike for another great video. Always look forward to Saturdays for your latest vlog, although I watched this on Sunday morning lol. All the best Doug 👍🏻
To bad about the light but i think you got some great footage with what you had to work with 🙂 i really like your story telling, reminds me a little of the voice of David Attenborough 👍
Well, I wasn't expecting that when I settled down this morning for my Saturday morning treat with your latest video. Very interesting, as always. That camping trip you did sounds epic.
Hey Mike! You where in my neck of the woods it would have been nice to meet you and have a show you around. There a lot of cool places around the Fraser Delta for shooting birds.
I acknowledge the difference it makes to a photograph if you can match eye level with your subject. I just feel so self-conscious when I lie down to take a photograph when there are people around. Good to see it's not just me that does it. Living in Vancouver must be like living in Lancashire with all the rain and grey skies.
Wish I knew you were coming here! Not many OM-1 shooters here, I just know of myself and one other, and neither of us have the 150-400. Would've loved to see it in person. I'm embarrassed to say we live in one of the worst climates for wildlife photography. There are frustratingly few good days with optimal lighting in the non summer months.
Very true Monokuro. Very true. Coming to Island County, WA after living in sunny Central California, where I learned to be a bird photographer, it has taken a great deal of readjustment. I'm not sure I've entirely succeeded.
@@fgb3126 I enjoy shooting in very strong pouring rain sometimes - shooting perched birds. It has a different look with a slower shutter speed, which is a nice change from the typical perched shot. But it's generally lacking in light when that happens, and there aren't many birds to find either. I wouldn't mind the rain as much if it was accompanied by good light and good bird availability.
Wonderful to see you make a video in my home country, Canada! Looking forward to your Reifel Bird Sanctuary video. A favourite, although I’m in far off Ontario.
Hi Mike! Welcome to our neck of the woods! Did you get a chance to go to Brunswick Point? Not too far from Reifel Bird Sanctuary. Lots of northern harriers and short-eared owls there. Have been three times this winter with pretty good success. Really enjoy your videos. Would have traveled over there from Nanaimo just to meet you. Have a great year of birding. Take care and good light! Steve Large, "The owl man" on Flickr.
I did Canadian/North American Geography at school but would be great to actually visit and certainly plenty of wildlife on show ! Thanks Mike look forward to the next one 👍
Very few people will use a CPL filter on a 200-600mm lens. They are more widley used with short lenses to darken a blue sky or remove reflections from glass.
Another lovely video Mike. Welcome to Canada! I love shooting around Vancouver but I've not been back there since before Covid. Hopefully I'll visit there again soon. Did you get to Boundary Bay for the raptors? Cheers, Stephen
Beautiful birds. Nice sharing. Thanks. Have a good day 👍💫🎁👏🦆🪿🦢🕊🐦⬛
Thank you.
Excellent looking forward to next Saturday!
Thanks.
Well done. Where I am we have quite a few of the White-winged Scoter, the Surf Scoter I only see the odd one.
Best channel on you tube 👍, thanks Mike
Thank you.
Superb Mike, thanks for bringing us along on your journeys, I really enjoy and look forward to your videos 📸👍🏽
Glad you like them!
Another great video. Thanks for taking us along Mike!
Glad you enjoyed it

Welcome to the city Mike, happy to take you around if you’re still here.
Thanks. Been home in the UK for a while now.
@@MikeLaneFRPS Sorry I missed. Should you visit again there are a number of great spots I would be happy to take you to.
Awesome video, as always..
Thank you! Cheers!

Thanks Mike. Essential Saturday morning viewing and so informative.
You are welcome

Very good Mike, I was almost seasick watching it. Thanks for sharing.
Very welcome

Yes I taught him all he knows. 😀
I used to study in Vancouver. Didnt know the wildlife there was so approachable. Need to go back there one day and photograph some wildlife there.
Well worth the visit

Thank you Victor. I followed the Where to watch birds in Vancouver book and there are lot of good places.

Compared to Vancouver Lancashire is a desert! I now feel self-conscious talking to camera for YT when there are people about.
Love your work Mike, greetings from Auz.
Many thanks!
👍👍❤❤👌👌
Love these shots Mike really interesting.
More to come!

Interesting video Mike. Some nice footage in difficult conditions.
Many thanks!
Fine work as usual! We see Surf Scoters and Black Turnstones here in the Bay Area of California in late Winter-early Spring, but not in great numbers.
Thanks

Much tamer wildlife than in the UK
@@MikeLaneFRPS A lot less people per square mile I guess
Hello mr mark, I love your clips and I learn a lot of you thank you … may I ask do I need cpl filter? I have 200-600g , cpl filter is it necessary?
Very few people will use a CPL filter on a 200-600mm lens. They are more widley used with short lenses to darken a blue sky or remove reflections from glass.
Nice footage! What is the best time of year to visit this spot for scoters?
I was there from Xmas day for 2 weeks. Need to ask a local birdwatcher outside of that. I don't know.
Superb birding information as always Mike was wondering how you transport your equipment 📸✈️
Mick if you mean when flying then I cover it in ruclips.net/video/colO-D5KLQw/видео.html

Yes. I think that is the 3rd of the 4 RUclips films i made from the trip.
No Vespa??!?
There was a shortage of 2 wheeled transport. Could be the constant rain
@@MikeLaneFRPS The rain and light reminded me of Norway.
