Fr., I have been watching your videos for the past few months. I have given you plenty of thumbs up.😊 It's difficult for me to describe how helpful your advice has been for me. I wanted you to know how grateful I am for these videos. I know that you have put untold hours of work and effort into these presentations because the quality is so high.
“Fear the Lord” St Marcellin Champagnat taught that we must always contemplate the presence of God in life. This is “fear” of God, that He is always near. In Eden, after man had fallen, they hid themselves from God whence He said “Where are you?”. This is “fear of God”.
The first time I ever prayed for a gift of the Holy Spirit, God gave me fear of the Lord. It gripped me so tight. I'll never forget it. I found out later through reading the wisdom books of the Bible that it says "fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom".
I don't know about fear of the Lord but it might serve as a means of describing the overwhelming appreciation that without God there's no cosmos, universe, solar system, planet Earth and the little tiny bit of it where I'm sitting listening to you! God is - isn't he? If you see what I mean! 🌹
Is not the greatest fear to be far from God? Rather than to tremble in his presence, but to tremble in his absence? A fantastic, helpful and humorous video thank you.
Pray for fear of the Lord and you'll get it, beware though, you'll only want God at all times and no one else can satisfy that. Hell is scary friends, I wish I could explain the "Depart from me, I never knew you" As I feel it. what a wonderful gift holy fear is. Also, to stop being tepid with prayers (Lazy?) apparently the Sacred Heart Devotion promises to make a tepid soul fervent if I remember correctly.
A bit of go, our parish priest explained to read "fear", as "great reverence". He explained the translation in the original texts doesn't have a exact English translation and thus we ended up with "fear." (Not a good one imo). Now, how I wish this had been explained to me as a young child! How differently would my imaginings of God have been.
Actually, even the Greek and Latin words for « to fear » (in this sense) carry the same ambiguity, meaning both « to be afraid of » and « to honour and respect » (I don’t know about Hebrew), so the problem is not unique to English. It’s the same in other European languages too.
Its one of the seven gifts. Wisdom, understanding, knowledge, good council, fortitude, piety and fear of the Lord. He doesn't want us to fear Him, but fear offending Him. This channel is going from strength to strength. God Bless you all.
This was one of the best episodes I've heard so far!😃 Thank you Father Columba! God bless you Father and all your brothers!❤🌸 (Gerry the geranium looks fine over there in the corner)😂
Thank you so much for this video. I've come to understand the fear of the Lord as the posture I take if I was walking into the bright sunlight outdoors after staying inside a dark room for a long while. Arm raised, shielding my eyes, face slightly turned away, upper body leaning back, somehow breathless, taken aback by the intense brightness, the brightness that is God. This was such a revelation to me since I had spent so much time misunderstanding fear of the Lord as just pure terror of God, the Judge, who would rage fury on poor little old me... Stepping into the sunlight, standing in the presence of our Awesome God, whose brightness shines like no other, revealed how dirty, deformed, messed up I was and still am, a reality I wouldn't have realised if I had remained in the dark room. That's when I felt fear, terror. How could I be in the presence of such pure light, in this filthy state? But our God is so good. He promises to clean and heal us Himself, if we just keep our eyes on Him.
WOW, Maria! I'm not sure who did a better job of giving me a great mental picture....you or Father Columba....thanks to BOTH of you for making this topic come to life!!
You just cannot bear to hurt him when he gives you this grace, you would rather chop your hand off than be the one who takes the whip and strikes him, again 😪
there're times I feel I'm not worth it. But then I get reminded (with these videos along with other things), of the gift that is God...and it makes me ashamed that I ever thought that. I keep failing, but these videos (among other things), restore hope. Another awesome video and may God continue blessing you.
All eyes on the city of Los Angeles where the process of the fear of God has been completed he is the first of many to come therefore God has made him king on Earth . Ask God
Great video! Good explanation. I was told, as a youngster, that THAT 'fear' actually meant ''love of the Lord' ... a loving respect for and awe for Him
Great insight! A truly loving being (like God undoubtedly is) would never want us to fear Him in the earthly/worldly sense of the word - as in terror. In fact, I don’t think I could ever fully love someone that terrorized me. Thank you Fr. Columba, for this valuable and healthy explanation of what fearing God really means.
The first time I felt the fear of the Lord was as a small child. The first time I saw the night sky without city lights. I was in the country. The stars were so abundant and sky so dark deep bigger than anything. It scared me in the most peculiar way straight to my heart.
wow father columba you just appeared on my suggested videos. We had a talk once for a few hours about some strange things going on in bradford. Thanks for listening :)
"Top of the food chain, not that He wants to eat you" 😆😆😆 More like He gave Himself as food for us to eat!!! Praise God for His amazing humility even though He deserves our awe in His glory!!! 🙏🙏🙏 Thank you Fr. for this wonderful reflection on the awe of the Lord 🙏🕊️
I've only recently found this channel though I've seen a video here and there. You, Fr. Columba, are to me a modern Teresa of Avila mixed with John of the Cross. Don't stop. Thank you and Deo gratias!
Imaginations is oldest truth you look for outside yourself is common flesh and blood that stuck as just a seed still or full I AM, that mystery hides from flesh and blood.
Fear of the Lord is when we first ‘meet’ Him that is, that was, and Who is to come; by the end of this ‘meeting’, we stand at the foot of cross with His mother and say: ‘wow, how things change’. 😢
fear of God has perfect peace, fear of anything else has anxiety. We must train our hearts, minds emotions and body to submit, yield stop!!!! and wait upon Holy Spirit for guidance, comfort, strength. We need to be terrified of speaking, thinking deciding anything apart from waiting upon God and His leading. You have anxiety, unhealthy fear and depression because you love yourself instead of God. Hate your reactions because they are independent from God. I fear getting complacent. take your zeal and multiply it by infinity, make that your goal...God knows we are nothing but selfish so He expects us to rely every second on Him. stop being casual about sin.... Jesus rose from the dead and that same power, love is available after we die to self
The story is about man awake, christ outside yourself is just saved not woke yet, Christ and Father in you wakes you. Luke 17: (HINT) 20 Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; 21 nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”
POPE BENEDICT XVI: “The phrase ‘fear of the Lord’ should be understood in terms of awe, rather than dread. In contemplation of the Almighty, the Christian does not experience servile fear, but a sincere and serious respect that prompts genuine and active adherence. People should not fear God, thinking he is always ready to punish, but rather they should love him because he is always ready to forgive. God is not a relentless sovereign who condemns the guilty, but a loving father whom we must love not out of fear of punishment, but because of his goodness. The Lord is a God who is just, but always ready to reveal himself as merciful and compassionate. God loves us in a way that we might call ‘obstinate’ and enfolds us in his inexhaustible tenderness. The anger and mercy of the Lord alternate in a dramatic sequence, but love triumphs in the end, for God is love. God’s passionate love for his people - for humanity - is at the same time a forgiving love. It is so great that it turns God against himself, his love against his justice.”

I always try to say in my mind when I commit Sins and Mistakes. Forgive me Lord for my evil thoughts, words, deeds and for my Sins.
This helped me so much thank you Fr. I need the grace of the fear of the lord so I can truly put God first above everything.

Yes. The awe, that Fr. Columba mentions, is closely related to that I think.
That’s a good explanation.

Fear=awe
Fright=what we call fear in contemporary English.
We can see other semantic shifts in these kinds of words when comparing aweful and awesome.

Not a bad explanation
I guess you have to fear the Commander of your life even if He is the good Lord and Shepherd, right? Or else it will not work.
