These videos are AWESOME! Just some video shooting tips to make them even better (and probably get more traction): 1) Careful of the iris on the camera - should be in manual mode. The florescent lights at most rinks actually change "light temperature" (how much light they produce) constantly. The human eye generally can't pick up on it, but the camera will, and you'll have funky light changes as the iris constantly tries to compensate for the added/subtracted light. 2) Stay aware of ambient sounds, especially at ice rinks. It gets picked up on the front mic of the camera and can overtake your voice. If you're ever outside, be wary of wind noise for the same reason. Try to find out the source/loud spots on the rink and stay away from them. If you have a lavalier mic, clip it on. 3) Be mindful of small details, people/equipment laying on the ice in the background, missing hockey "pieces" (like a net) at the other end of the ice when it's in a shot, etc. Looking forward to the next video!
Hey man, I appreciate the constructive criticism! Producing these videos are sort of a race against the clock, because the rink manager can only give us certain time windows (He lets us shoot these for free). So unfortunately I have to sometimes cut corners film wise to keep the shoots on schedule. It seems that as long as the writing is on par, viewers don't seem to mind all that much. But you're not the first guy to bring up these sorts of things. I have a lav mic, but it is broken at the moment. I got most of my budget from the ad revenue of Stereotypes: Pickup Pond Hockey, and after a year and a half of using it I have to budget very carefully. I plan to invest in better audio equipment at some point in the near future. However, I have a feeling these videos are going to spread even more at some point. After 5 episodes I think I have more than enough proof of concept. That being said, I have some plans to scale this series. Stick around man! I love entertaining people who appreciate my comedy. Don't forget to look at my other non-hockey vids as well. - Nick
i just love how its suppose to be at the beginning where it shows the player lining up for the shot and then it shows the crease and fucking theres no crease and i dont know if made me laugh so hard
