Could you make a video on filthiest changeups, and include Shane McLanahan's disgusting circle change that drops 30+ inches and has tons of arm side run?
Great compilation of pitches! I played 3rd base in my later years during slow pitch softball and my first base players used to not like how much my throws danced around from my wrist involvement on my throws, that was just how I guided them in my mind. Wish I would have paid more attention to that when I was younger, it just didn't hit me till my late 20's to early 30's. I used to love watching people while we were warming up jump up when the ball would come in at waist level.🙂
Justin Verlander’s curve was so filthy it wasn’t fair. A lot of batters would actually recoil away because they thought the pitch was going to hit them.
@@butterthyme2241 Which means the catcher did his job. Spent a lot of my younger years behind the plate as both a catcher and umpire, and would often watch catchers gloves when looking for those borderline calls
I am watching this a waiting to see a batter get absolutely jelly legged like Doc Gooden used to as a kid. His fastball/curve combo was so sick batters almost fell over regularly. Once again I must thank Kieth and the boys for introducing him and Straw to coke.
The thing I actually learn watching this is how every MLB catcher now does exactly the same set of motions for setting the pitcher's target, hiding the glove on the ground, and then framing their catches with an upward movement while catching.
I love the ones that are solidly in the zone and the batter has to stand there like he got ripped off in a lame attempt to reclaim his pride. Just tip you cap and tote your bat back like man!
The fact that guys are regularly throwing pitches in the mid-80s, occasionally even high 80s, with this much movement is nuts. Kimbrel's knuckle curve at 88? Forget about it, I don't know how you even make contact on something like that.
My favorite ones are where the pitch is delivered waaaayyyy to the outside and hooks back in to catch the strike zone. From the batter's point of view, how could they possibly expect the ball to come in?
Koufax? Ok, a little while back but still?? The thing that makes a great curveball so effective is a 95 mph+ fastball and the fear of stepping into one. As a former high school "prospect" in the 60's hats off to these young athletes and much appreciation for their talent. Oh yeah, it helps if you have a really good catcher too. Thanks for sharing this post.
A lot of these look like slurves and maybe even some changes. But the weird camera angles at a lot of stadiums really throw off my pitch perception, so I can't say for sure on all of them.
man zack greinke had that exact lookin nasty curveball that shouldve been on this list against shohei, except, somehow shohei smashed it out of the ballpark
Sorry Ruben, but these arent all curves, some are sliders or "slurves". There are a few pitches on here that are clocked at 88mph, a true curve ball generally thrown at 70-83mph. And I agree with another reply that a few of these batters were not "frozen", they just laid off because they were balls and the ump made bad calls. Would have liked to see Kershaw on this video but props to you for including Verlander. Good idea for a video though.
The hitter has to guess at the pitch before it is even delivered so yes pitching is deception. If you are dead red looking for a fastball you will look like a fool. Same is true if you are looking for someone off speed. It is breaking balls that look like they are going to hit you that find the plate that there really is nothing a hitter can do about.
Umpires never get credit for good calls. But, you know what? Well done umps for these calls! Pats on the back all around.
Charlie Morton really getting batters with the "Ol' Uncle Charlie". 😂

No.
0:44 was just plain nasty

There's something special about a curve ball with the perfect amount of movement. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
I hope all the people who complain about umpiring... would watch this video... a lot of these pitches are right on the black... great job umps!✌️😁
There was this guy, pitched for the Pirates I think,. Kent somebody..... Tekulve?... Blylevin?
His side arm was wicked! Haven’t heard his name in years. He was deadly
so many of those pitches were perfectly framed by the catchers!
Yeah looking back after looking at the comments your right. Sharp eye.
Justin Verlander’s curve was so filthy it wasn’t fair. A lot of batters would actually recoil away because they thought the pitch was going to hit them.
I was getting pretty sick of seeing my Twins staring at strike 3 so often, but they did that a lot last season!
Great curveballs for sure but these breakers pale to the likes of Dwight Gooden , Don Sutton and Bert Blyleven. Those were “yackers”
People overlook a good catcher's ability to frame a borderline pitch for a strike
You did say 'people' and not 'fans' so I will give you a pass on this statement.
Totally agree with this, a lot of those pitches though are in no way shape or form strikes, umps are just blind.
@@butterthyme2241Every single one of those pitches were strikes. It’s not the umps that are blind, it’s you.
@@butterthyme2241 Which means the catcher did his job. Spent a lot of my younger years behind the plate as both a catcher and umpire, and would often watch catchers gloves when looking for those borderline calls
Agreed. Many of those pitches were far from filth-- but there was a lot of skillful framing going on.
I have a new appreciation for a well-placed curve ball. Thx
Best curve I've ever seen was Nolan Ryan playing with Kevin Mitchell in the 1989 All Star Game.
0:29 "...and my goodness..." That's high praise.
Beauties to behold, but batters may never recover.
Us umpires love 3rd strike benders in the zone. We get to show off our call 3rd strike mechanics!
I knew as soon as this was a curveball compilation Charlie would be on here, his curve is a work of art when its 100%.
Honestly my favorite pitch to watch. Nothing freezes the best hitters in baseball quite like a well timed hook.
Excellent compilation
I have a sweeping curve that once released, it has a constant speed but when it starts to break, it slows down like 10-15 mph and just turns
I could watch Uncle Charlie throw backdoor Uncle Charlie's all damn day
Devin Williams currently has the best change up. They even nicknamed it the Airbender!

Waino buckling Beltran to win the pennant is the one I always remember
Agree 100%.

It's a shame most ballparks have such awful camera angles. Shoutout to the Astros and Braves for giving us a good look at those pitches.
Where is Kershaw?
Just here to watch Charlie Morton about 50 times.
My favorite ones are where the pitch is delivered waaaayyyy to the outside and hooks back in to catch the strike zone. From the batter's point of view, how could they possibly expect the ball to come in?
No Kershaw!? He has one of the nastiest curves in all of baseball.
had
none in 2023 to note
red soxs: not resigning chris sale or paxton
Also red sox: sign giolito who is comming off of a bad season
Thank you. Favorite pitch. My Dodgers got Yoshinobu Yamamoto now and he's gonna be doing this a lot (I hope!)
While neat, many of those were not strikes, the catcher raised gloves back to strike zone after ball was caught below.

Inside corner curveball - one of the most beautiful things in baseball.
there would be way more curve balls if there was an automated strike zone. human umps miss borderline strikes all the time.
Helps when you can do the pitch overlay in sequence….. THEN this breaking stuff is just SICK
I'd launch all these. - WW
AI > Human Umpires
A lot of these look like slurves and maybe even some changes. But the weird camera angles at a lot of stadiums really throw off my pitch perception, so I can't say for sure on all of them.
According to statcast all of these were curveballs, slurves/slider is one of the coming compilations!
Gotta give it to those umps. Got most of those calls right on a lot of close pitches.
I’m a Red Sox fan but Taj Bradley had maybe the 2 filthiest curves in this video. Next rays stud - look out
We called those drop balls or sinkers,,curves break left or right.
I knew Sborz was gonna be in this video. His breaking pitchers all move a ton.
Last one should have been a curveball outside all the way called strike three by Angel Hernandez. 😂❤
This is more a "what are the different called 3rd strike calls from umpires" video.
Damn.....I only got halfway through the video.....Poor batters.
I am so ready for Baseball!!
Not one pitch from 'Uncle Charlie' himself, Adam Wainright?
man zack greinke had that exact lookin nasty curveball that shouldve been on this list against shohei, except, somehow shohei smashed it out of the ballpark
As a DBacks fan, it hurts that 3 of the first 5 clips were DBacks batters :(((
Greg Olson and Barry Zito had putrid curveballs back in the day
Baseball batters vs pitchers are #1 crybabies. Worst than NBA players vs refs.
Not even Jobu could hit these!
good lord Schwarber
Best curveball in baseball wasn’t even mention-Framber Valdez
That's when you know ☕
These are absolutely evil pitches.

It’s almost always with 2 outs 😂
Not one Giants pitcher. BIAS MUCH????
Ain't really "freezing" batters when it's not a strike tho. That's a take and a bad call 😂.
But man do I love a good breakingball!

Sorianos curve hurt my feelings😂
TANNER BANKS SIGHTING LFG
Some of those "curveballs" were sliders.
4:20 wasn't even remotely a "curveball". That was a picture perfect slider.
You didn't include Dwight Gooden. In baseball slang, a curveball is known as "Uncle Charlie." Gooden's curve was known as "Lord Charles"
Hentges got damn
Guys goin down lookin. Gotta take a hack at some point. Backward K. Not good. Don't get caught staring.
Seams are too dull to see the rotation and optical flight of a baseball .
Any curveball video that puts in may over Kershaw doesn't follow baseball
Kershaw’s Curveball is one of my favorites but it never froze anyone to end the inning, which is the criteria for this video 💔
Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting.
7-9 of these were awful calls. However Sborz is a dog
Its only disgusting,if you’re illiterate/the batter’s club owners.
Nasty!
HAPPY 100TH COMMENT 🎉🎉🎉
This is awesome Omg
not sure 88 mph is a curveball : )
I figured for some but Statcast has them as curveballs lol
@@BBRuben yeah I know what you mean : ). Modern analytics and technology have only muddied the waters!
Pitch framing has gotten so lazy 👎🏽
Meh
Freeze the knees, baby. Freeze the knees. 🧊
Ty Ruben ❤️
Alot of these aren’t even that good smh.. just bad hitters.. hit better smh
Those were not disgusting. Talk to the @pitchingninja
good lord Schwarber
