BTW, LOVE your channel name!! 👍
First time here. I enjoyed your description of not only “how” but “why” you chose to save for your emergency fund. You come across as very relatable and sincere.
Thank you! It was a tough video to make but it really matters to me so I'm glad I did. I do have another video about putting more "Why" into your emergency funds if you are interested. It's the one called "What types of emergency funds should I have." In addition to emergency funds, are there any other financial topics that interest you?🤗
You are so welcome! I'm glad you liked them! I tried to pull in tips from my personal experience in addition to the regular, generic tips on emergency funds. Thank you for the comment! 😄
Actually you do spend the money when it is put in a fund like that. You spend it on peace of mind. It is the best purchase I have ever made. Nothing beats knowing that you will never be broke.
From an accounting perspective, it wouldn't be considered spending but I'm a big believer that you can think about things however will help you get to your goals faster. For example, I recently heard that Michael Jordan used to pretend his opponents said negative things about him which motivated him to play harder. Plus thinking that you spent it on "peace of mind" probably helps reinforce that the money is unavailable to spend which makes it easier to hold on to. So true! Knowing that you have that protection against the stress of being broke is priceless!! Thank you for this thoughtful comment!
Yes I've seen that a lot too! Dealing with medical issues can be really challenging on an emotional level, having to deal with the money stress that results makes it so much worse. I went for a long time without insurance, so I worried a lot about medical costs so this comment hit home.
Liked this video! Hearing the death fund for the first time but it makes sense. I guess the various ladders of emergency money would be: 1 Bare minimum living expenses. 2. Emergency travel to one's hometown not vacation travel. 3. Death fund. 4. Medical expenses
Ooh great comment!!! I love hearing how other people structure their funds. It says a lot about what you value and different experiences you've had. Thanks so much for sharing!😊
Me I prefer to calculate how much I earn in one month and how much bills I have to pay. Calculate what is left and do an estimate. To see how much time it will take to fully fill my emergency fund.
Projections are really helpful, aren't they? Estimating how much time it is going to take you to save up an emergency fund can motivate to take more action.

My wife and I make 11,300 a month with expenses of about 5,500 a month and spending it as it comes. Stupid! We are kicking into gear this year with a new baby on the way. Thanks for the help.
Hello Jeremy! Have you calculated how much your current spending is on your basic needs (food water shelter)? You could calculate a percentage of what remains as your goal savings amount. Just in general, I recommend people save 30% of their income (this can be used for paying extra towards debt as well). So that would be $167 per week ($668 per month) for you. How much are you saving now? It's easier to increase your current savings a little at a time (and kinder to yourself!). Thanks for the question!
Jeremy, no, you should set aside your savings first. $55.70/week would be 10%, a small but good start. In a year you’d have almost $3K which is a good start!!
It's good to calculate what your basic needs spending is so that you don't set an unrealistic savings goal. But once you set your goal savings percentage (30% or whatever you set) then you can transfer that amount to savings on payday. Many people report more savings success if they save it first before spending instead of waiting until the end of the month to transfer it to the savings account
Thank you for this video! Step 2 really hit home for me. I took time to build my emergency fund because it's money we see but don't have (if that makes sense). I don't calculate that in our Networth either because it's like it's not really there.
Interesting approach! I love the idea of "not really seeing it"; the ability to pretend that money doesn't exist definitely helped me save and keep an emergency fund.
