We need more of this. Don’t question the authenticity, the fact that a cameraman is present, the fact that it is presented via a television company. This is an example of one individuals efforts to engage in a question that we should all be asking no matter what epoch we live in ( but especially now) This is sentiment with feeling, soul and humour. To pick over petty details is to miss the point entirely. I have lived a life of privileged ups and downs and this gentleman speaks volumes to me at this time in my life. Simple, reciprocal gestures undertaken for nothing more than the mutual pleasure they bring are, surely, the best path to future riches of sustainable respect and happiness. We need more of Mr. Owen Jones. As a non believer I will still say God bless you in all your future endeavours and I truly hope our paths will cross some day

The opening scene of Peter cutting the gentleman's hedge is incredibly moving for me. This is how to treat the elderly, not farming them into a home where they're at the mercy of people who aren't family. Don't get me wrong, many of those who serve the elderly have enormously loving hearts and do a wonderful work, but in the news lately there has been the stories of a serial killer, a caregiver of very vulnerable, helpless people. We need to keep elderly folks in their own homes, or in places where they can live with family near by.

Already commented on this program, series and man but just need to say again what a lovely, warm message exudes from all of this. The antithesis of modern, Facebook, Instagram driven ego madness. Let’s all breath, reflect and start living better. Peter, my dear man, you’ve helped set me on a path I always wanted to tread. My blessings to you in lovely Firle. Hope to see you at the bar of the Ram one day, pints will be on me. Cheers mate,God bless you always

..well, I've seen 6 documentaries of Peter Owen Jones and his 3 experiences of extreme pilrimage and 3 episodes to somehow follow in the footsteps of St Francis in this modern world, in my view truely remarkable. These are real life experiences shared with us all. I'm humbled by his change during each and every challenge. What a fantastic series of 6 episodes, challenging Christian ways and doctrines. Quite easily I could watch and learn from Peter Owen Jones' tranformations in all 6 episodes, again..

Nice series. I have to say the irony of presenting a typical English village based on some of the most expensive real estate in these islands, put a delicious twist on the Franciscan ideal. Even the homespun vicarage, if it ever came up for sale, wouldn't show the buyer much change from three quarters of a million quid.

I have found such moments of peace, and hope watching Pete , but I would truly love to see Pete ministering to a really desperate and needy community....say a terribly poor run down council estate. ...where people are hungry, on every level. I really like and admire you Pete....but....would like to see you take love to other kinds of poverty ❤

This last episode is the most enjoyable to watch. The man has finally figured out that people and kindness are what life is about. The Bible says, "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over ..." (Luke 6:38). He's dropped some of his affected look (necklace, curls, duster coat), seems to have shed some ego, and he's finally paying more attention to his parishioners. I'm glad he abandoned his "no-money" policy. Going without money just for the sake of doing so is not commendable. Wanting less IS commendable. I hope this man retains his lessons.

If you do something in exchange for a $3 chicken that is barter.
If you do something in exchange for $3 and then exchange that for a chicken, that is two barters.
Money is simple a very efficient way of enabling what is fundamentally barter.
Money is not the evil. You are trapped by you dependence on your motor car:; your needs and desires.
In a simpler world, you could ride a horse a few miles.
A simpler life requires a simpler world.

    • @borderlands6606

He's a vicar serving three parishes. If he's called out a 2pm to baptise someone's dying baby, the child may have died by the time he arrived on his bike.
In Victorian times a vicar would have been in charge of one parish and had at least one full time verger. He'd have been able to ride on horseback or trap to any of his parishioners within ten minutes. Times change.

He says we don't feel comfortable expressing our needs to other people. Well I do and have and those people don't want to know. People don't want to know, really and I'm not talking about one community but many. People care perhaps about their sexual partner and children and after that....I've been abused after making the most simplest non material requests. I hope people are still like this at least in some English villages. If not its a very sad world.

So sad that you said rural vicars and priests can mostly not speed time visiting parishioners.
I remember when I was a child in the 1960s that a certain Canon C-------g used to park in the pub car-park and my Mum would watch his hat, peeping above the wall, aproaching closer and closer! His visit was not looked forward to in happy anticipated - as far as I know! But that was probably because my family felt they were being judged - but that probably came from them and attitudes of the times.
Having Googled him, I see he was probably a very interesting person.
Now, tbh I would really enjoy to be visited. But it doesn't happen. Sad.

This vicar is also a real teacher...."We must be like the fountain or spring that is continually emptying itself of all that it has and is continually being refilled from an invisible source. To be continually giving out for the good of our fellows undeterred by fear of poverty and reliant on the unfailing bounty of the Source of all wealth and all good-this is the secret of right living.” - Shoghi Effendi, Baha'i Thought

Peter if you are not already isn't it time you considered being Vegan . Good to see you are Wild Heart really enjoyed listening to you. Best wishes Pixie P.S the wheelbarrow was a stable wheelbarrow used only for light duties such as using for mucking out stables full of straw...not suitable at all for rubble so yes the builder was correct in saying he didn't provide you with the correct tools for the job .

Re the Barrow - either the thing was faulty or the guy did buy wrong one for the job (as he suggested he may have) . Peter shouldn`t be held responsible IMO however guilty he may feel , I thought this when I first saw this on TV, it`s not as if he was hurling large rocks in it or anything .. I`d pop rivet a sheet of aluminium in the whole of the base and good to go (for that job anyway)

Freedom from ownership or the "system" is futile, I think it's not allowing it to be our reason for being, to allow it a minimal hold on us. But truly, God is the owner of all, He just lends it to us, including our lives. Money is truly debt.
The insurance wasn't a failure, Francis of Assisi didn't have a car to insure.

Get a piece of hefty marine ply, cut it to size, and bolt it to the barrow's bottom. It's the owner's fault for bricks, rocks, etc, being chucked in the plastic barrow. Cold embrittles plastic. It appears too that the owner keeps horses, anyone that can do that can afford another barrow.

It's so easy to overspend, not do things that are for the better and not pay attention that if we just adjusted a few things we do more towards a way that helps rather than hurts - wood toothbrushes that will biodegrade instead of plastic ones that choke ocean life. Love the videos but you guys should really be simplifying by doing no dig/no till organic gardening. Check out your fellow countryman Charles Dowding's no dig RUclips videos. God wants your burden easy and yoke light.

I'm sorry to point out the really obvious, but it worked for St. Francis because he died just depend on others. He depended on God and thus prayer. If you have real faith, when you need $1000 you pray, and trust, and then you get a call that someone was thinking about you, and God put it on their heart that you needed money. John Wesley, George Mueller, people in England who raised what would have been multi millions in today's exchange, that's how they did it. They never asked a penny from anyone except God.
You really did quute well; you just left one person to ask out of the equation. That would've solved your car problems.

      @lincolncity9 9 лет назад

MOT is an annual car test in the UK to check the vehicle is safe to be used on public roads. One of my most stressful days of the year as like Pete I always have old bangers to drive resulting in a costly day!

St. Francis was vegetarian out of mercy and compassion, yet you are all about the meat, which makes you reincarnate as an animal to experience the karma of subsisting upon flesh, and taking the lives of so many of Gods other creatures, all of which, have a soul, just as you. Meat eating is highly sinful and carries nasty reactions.

He's in the wrong environment to try and live without money. You can't run a car, service and repair a car without money. If he can live rent free, walk or cycle everywhere then he's in with a chance. But you can't drive around in a car with no money.
