  • Welcome to my video lesson for Flyers Direct from the fantastic new Fearless Flyers ep. This time I'm taking you through some of Cory and Mark's main bits from the track. Both parts have been fully tabbed and you can get a free copy via the link below. Hopefully I've got the transcription pretty close but I'm sure it's not perfect. All errors are not intentional!
Mark plays a baritone on the track but I have transcribed on a regular six string in standard tuning as I don't have access to one.
If you enjoy please click like, share, subscribe so you can keep up to date with future videos etc. and also check out some of the previous transcriptions on my channel. There is a link to both my Facebook and Instagram pages and would be great if you would also follow me on there.
Any questions drop me a line but I hope you enjoy and get something from this you can use.
    Donations:
I happily do all this for fun and have no plans to try to charge for these transcriptions. It's not my music so I have no right to do that. However I do get asked by people if they can make a donation or leave a tip and if you feel the need to do that then my PayPal details are below. Please don't feel under any obligation to do so but obviously I'm grateful for anything received. Any funds I do receive I will put towards improving my video making equipment to try and provide better quality videos in the future. (and yes my first name is Philip, don't ask ;))

Luke, brilliant job with your series of transcriptions. You are pretty much the go-to resource for anyone trying to study the style of Cory Wong. I'm hoping you could help me with a technical question. On the phrase at 11:45 , I seem to be accidentally hitting lots of unintentional harmonics (background ringing noises) on the 7th fret while trying to mute the strings. In the video, your mutes seem to not have a lot of extra noise going on. I was wondering how you were able to avoid this, thanks

Gunnar Schmitz thanks for watching and really glad you’re finding them useful. Good question though. Muting the strings while strumming to get that funky ‘scratch’ sound does take some practice. At that point I’m resting my 1st finger across the strings at the 7th fret, almost like playing a barre chord. It’s all about how much pressure you’re applying I think. Too much and you start hearing the fretted notes coming through, too light and you may get open strings or open harmonics ringing out. I would suggest practicing some exercises where your right hand is doing 16th note up/down strokes and left hand just resting on the strings. Try different amounts of pressure until you get that scratch sound just right. But there are also some great tutorials on RUclips with tips to help perfect it. It’s hard to put into words but I hope that helps a bit 🤞 as with everything it’s all about practice practice practice 😎🎸

@@LukeBowmanGuitar I never thought to try and fine tune the pressure, thank you! I will try this

Gideon Andreas Music it’s a great song but 3 guitars and lots of slide playing which isn’t my strength 😔 maybe one day 🤞🤞
