    I dont understand why you guys dont have a bigger following on youtube!!!! Honestly, both of you have given me better advice in your videos than all the rest of the art channels I follow! Keep up the good work!

    This is really helpful advice, as I am on the brink of starting my comic (just working on the back up pages) and I am super nervous I'm going too fast with it. I have a weird magic system so I'm trying my best to make it suscinct but also elaborate on important details. I feel like story structure also helps with pacing, cuz if you know where you're headed in a story it will always feel like it is progressing somehow. Thanks for the tips!

    This is so helpful as I try to decide how much detail and effort to put into various comic elements, it can be intimidating if you're working all on your own. Thanks for the helpful video, looking forward to more!

    Thank you so much! I'm so worried about my pacing because the early pages of my comic feel both rushed and slow because they're very dialogue reliant. There's a lot of character talking, and I'm concerned it makes the newest relationship feel rushed and the action feel put off. -sigh- this thing has been in the drafting phase for two years now. So many reworks.

    oh man this is such an old video but if anyone happens to watch it around now i'm kind of struggling with the pacing while writing out my webtoon because of some differences with my artist (they aren't problematic or anything, just slightly restricting in a sense). she has a certain number of chapters in mind for each season (we've established that we're going to have multiple seasons), but the number of chapters that she thinks will be in one season is almost less than half the number i'd had in mind, since i was sort of basing the number of chapters off of how many i saw in most webtoons. i don't want to rush the story, so i'd thought of making more seasons, but i also can't think of good endings/cliffhangers for those seasons if we were to add more?

      I like to do a subdivision process so to control the number of the chapters. So the whole story is written and I want it to have 12 chapters. First I set the goal of chapter 1 to introduce characters and settings, and chapter 12 to the conclusion. Then chapter 6 to the middle point (eg. character goes from grasping the situation to taking action). Then chapter 3 and 9 to betweens like pinch and subplots. You could keep subdividing but the general idea is that chapters in the middle are transitions between different setpoints and their number is what decides the pacing. It gets clear that 12 chapters are good for a small story but not good for an epic adventure. It also makes you constraint yourself so you don't go crazy doing 300 chapters of things that don't move the story.
      You can do it for everything. If chapter 1 has 20 pages, page 1 is a character on its way to meet another character, by page 20 the reader should know their names and where they are, then page 10 is when characters meet. It makes it easy to fit what you want to show in a restricted length.

    Question, when do you slow down the pace of your story? when something important happens?

    • @Coffnist_Charm
      @Coffnist_Charm Год назад

      That depends on what exactly your working on, in context of a comic, give the important thing a frame or 2 to exist and have other reaction shown to it. At only dose this show how important the thing is if the character have big emotions to it, and also lets the read have a few more frame to think about the important thing.
