My school was near a train station called Mountbatten. Facinating, I always thought it was named after a person.
Isn't he the famous English homosexual?
What a sharp reminder that naked we come from the womb and naked we return to the tomb😳🫣
Great narrator. Clearly fascinated with and knowledgeable about his subject, while conveying relatability and warmth as well. Almost distracts one from the precious heirlooms and history, impressive as they are.
Yes, although he does keep calling her 'Perticia' instead of 'Patricia'.
Part of our history, thankyou for showing us such lovelies.
Hello, Barbara,

If the scandal of molestations at Kerkora are true, perceptions of Mountbatten and the British establishment that hid the facts will be devastating.
Only one of the reasons he ws blown to bits in Ireland.

They may try; but that cat has already escaped its bag.

Mountbatten is remembered with horror by former boys of the Kincora Boys Home. Also known for dabbling in a coup attempt in 1979. He was homosexual and she was well known to be totally promiscous. His diaries on events in India are still suppressed by the British Government. How much exploitation and robbery to accumulate that obscene wealth? Disgusting.
The FBI had a file on him too.

Does the specialist from Sotheby's have difficulty saying her name: PATricia, not PERticia.
Corinthian Columnist, yes, I too was wondering about that bizarre pronunciation of the name "Patricia". He seemed so knowledgeable and articulate otherwise. Weird!
I heard it as "PRAticia", but yes, very annoying.
Oh I thought he was saying Perdita.. lol
Minor detail. I thought he was lovely.
Lord MountBottom's story cannot be complete without mentioning the special love & favour he showered over the poor kids of Kincora Boys Home in Belfast.

A family who clung on like limpets to the royal family for their own selfish reasons
Ah yes, the Battenbergs. Cracks me up that they stealthily (lol) changed their name
They did not change it stealthily. King George V changed the RF name from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor in 1917. He changed name Battenberg (Batten Mountain) to Mountbatten! He changed the names from German to English because of the war between the two nations. The Kaiser joked that the drama Merry Wives of Windsor should be changed to Merry Wives of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha!
There was nothing stealthy about the changing of their name. The royal family did exactly the same thing for the same reason.
You sure can see the familia resemblance between Lord Mountbatten and the late HRH Phillip Duke of Edinburg. Both very good looking men in their prime.

For a group of people who present themselves as being proud of family and heritage, it’s odd they’d change their German names. Is it out of embarrassment? Not wanting to be associated with German links? Is it an attempt to “erase” that heritage?

Assembled and presented with touching deference to the family. I'm a bit saddened to see it all chopped up and sold to the highest bidders.
It's not that these families are indifferent to their possessions & the history connected to them. It's that the inheritance tax is absolutely crippling at their level & they have to sell most everything just to pay it. It's criminal, I think. 💍

That collection is pure lavish ridiculousness - people with wealth and position who have no taste and no idea how other people live on a limited sum of money (salary). Mountbatten was known for his penchant for young boys and his disastrous naval career. Edwina and he had an open marriage with many affairs on both sides while presenting the face of respectability and privileged upper class position to the masses and that to me is purely disingenuous - dishonest and shallow. Battenberg!
Yep! Anglicised to Mountbatten. Same as the Royal Family changed to Windsor.
All very well, but what one should always remember is that this dynasty acquired their status and riches and objets d'art thanks to the beneficence of the British tax-payer. They were only enitled by virtue of heredity. They were lucky not to have been born in France. Their like was abolished in the revolution of 1789. One can only admire them on account of their custodianship. Nothing more.

Wonderful family,so much of our history revolve around this family,Lord Mountbatten always strived to reinstate his Fathers name,Lord Louie of Battenberg, forced into changing his name because of WW1.Some people may deride these families, but we will never see the like again.
Ludvig of Battenberg wasn't forced to change is name to Mountbatten. He chose to do so inorder to sound less German, which he was. Being the First Sea Lord of the British navy, it wasn't good to remind people of his German origin, obviously. But he still had to resign. The Mountbattens weren't particularly good people. They were ambitious, not to say grasping parvenues, ready to use their slim royal connections to get on.
Thank god we will never see his or his famiy's like again, he was an evil paedophile and the Royal Family always covered it up, perverts.
But Lord Mountbatten remembered ---and never forgot--- when his father, a Naval officer who was in line to become First Sea Lord---was not allowed to take up the job because the public considered him a foreign royal, all on the cusp of WWI. That knowledge of the oversight of his father sharpened Lord Louis' own senses of ambition and need for publicity. He said that as a school boy, this denial of his father, hurt him terribly and made him eager to change the world, in ways his father would have done.
Modern day,the people are unaware our RF is German,up toCharles generation.
