    I'm listening to clips of the called back goal and a few things I noticed:
    1. That is a really hard to notice call but...
    2. The refs saw it right away and were blowing their whistles before the puck left Tavares's stick it wasn't stamkos flagging the refs they saw it immediately
    3. The goal isn't scored without that interference because Cirelli was all over Tavares otherwise so the shooting lane wouldn't have been there

    Sucks that goal gets called back, but honestly it was super obvious it wasn't going to count bc it directly led to a goal... the one that bothers me more than anything is the 2 man advantage in game six that cost us the game when they refused to call a good 5 straight penalties against Tampa right before that

    As a Caps fan that knows all to well crushing game 7 losses and now also can’t get out of the first round, you have to keep cycling the role players with younger talent until you hopefully strike gold and get a Paul or Smith-Pelly. A lot of times the top 6 is going to cancel each other out because World Class athletes on both sides are playing for their playoff lives. 2018 we had Burakovsky on the 3rd line (scores 2 huge goals in our game 7 against Tampa), Chandler Stevenson playing 4th line center and the previous mentioned Smith-Pelly coming out of the press box with 5 huge goals down the stretch run later rounds. Think you all have to give it one more run with the full core cycling out what you can on the bottom 6. You all played well enough to win and I thought you all should of won but just got puck lucked.

      *yawn* another NHL team loses. A fan says it is the official’s fault. Every NHL team, player and coach understands how the officials call games. The fans need to get with the program. Bad and inconsistent calls go both ways throughout the season and the playoffs. In the end, over long enough a sample size, the calls even out. Does it need to be improved in some way? Probably. What is your answer to a deeply systemic problem?

    I was mad at the penalty call that resulted in the disallowed goal, but if tampa scores on the leafs with the same play then leaf fans are outraged. It had to be called. I know that tampa interfered prior to their first goal in game seven to some extent but it didn't directly lead to the goal. It didn't cause an odd man rush of any sort so what it really came down to was a bad bounce. It sucks for sure, but it's the right call.

    The story depends on the viewpoint it's told from. For the Leafs it's another loss without a series win, but from the perspective of Tampa it's the biggest challenge they have had to overcome in their run so far. In their last 8 series they faced only a single elimination game, the Leafs got 2 out of them.
    Tampa rose to the challenge but you're talking about a team that in a months time might be nailed on as the greatest team of the salary cap era.
    That's no solace to the Leafs but in giving an objective analysis of the team you can argue they are better than this result at least seems, the problem is with the previous years where it was series and situations that the team should have been able to close out.

    • @FloridaHockeyFan
      @FloridaHockeyFan 2 года назад

      Biggest challenge we've had to over come? Ugh no buddy. Isles put up a better fight last year. Toronto played well but they were definitely not the toughest matchup Tampa's had in the last 3 years.

    • @cronoros
      @cronoros 2 года назад +4

      @@FloridaHockeyFan in a vacuum would I trust the Isles over the Maple Leafs? Definitely. There's been too many times where the Leafs have fallen flat and be default the Islanders have been far closer to success than Toronto.
      But when it's the question of what fight they put up against Tampa in a single series? The Leafs led the series 3 times, the same amount of times as those previous 8 series combined and all 3 were game 1 wins. No one else has ever managed to lead Tampa after game 2. Game 1 was also the biggest margin of victory anyone has had over them.
      1 game 7 against the Isles and that was in a series where Tampa also had an 8-0 win and Tampa only faced elimination in that game 7, Leafs managed to make it 6 and 7.
      Tampa showed they could handle Toronto when they needed to but they've handled everyone else too so thats not really a knock on the Leafs. If you think the Isles were a tougher out I can definitely see your point, if you tallied the individual minutes and moments through the series it wouldn't surprise me if the Isles were scrapping with them better but Toronto undeniably managed to play up to them far more than the choker label would allow for.

    By overpaying Tavares, Leafs put themselves in a situation in which they had to pay king's ransom to Marner and Matthews, because "Since I am better than Tavares I am also worth at least 11M". Otherwise they could have been signed for a little less than that (9M and 10 M maybe ?). Since Tavares is overpaid by at least 4M ( I am very generous here), that puts the Leaf with about 7 M handicap over other teams which makes it much harder to get a competitive bottom 6. It doesn't mean the Leafs can't go far in playoffs...it just means that as long as Tavares will be there, they will be at a disadvantage with their bottom 6 against other cup contender and there is no way around it.

One of them was in front of the net and it kept Killorn from getting to the puck 1 ft away from the goalie. Giodano then proceeded to punch Killorn (killorn returned the punch) and no penalties were called. Steve Dangle was losing his mind screaming CALL IT CALL IT! to Killorns punch. Well buddy if they were calling everything they would of gave giodano 2 penalties to Killorns 1 and Tampa would of been on the powerplay again. Things that cost the Leafs:
    1. Simmonds / Clifford was a terrible call by Keefe in games 1 /2.
    2. PP was a joke when it mattered most.
    3. Unwillingness to crash the net / screen.
    4. Unwillingness to put the puck on net. Score the ugly goal.
    5. Not being to hold a lead in third.
    6. Awful, undisciplined penalties.
    Going forward:
    1. Need a shutdown D-man.
    2. Need to move on from Kerfoot / Nylander.
    3. Need to re-jig the fourth line.

It's the fact of how Tampa many times was allowed to to hold Toronto players from chasing a chipped in puck on the forcheck. In multiple games it would happen more then once that a Tampa player would alter the direction they were skating and push the Tornto player off balance as they tried going by, with no effort to turn and chase them, which is interference and with the same logic how could they call Justin holls change of course to cut Stamkos off a penalty, cause up until then all the interference penalties basically involved holding players in place. It just seems like to pivotal of a moment to change your stance on something like that.
