  • Today we celebrate the birthday of the amazingly talented and accomplished Charlie McCoy! Charlie and Ray Stevens have been friends and musical collaborators since the late 1950s. Charlie has since become a Grammy-winning, Country Music Hall of Fame member who has worked with everyone including Elvis Presley, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Paul Simon, Chet Atkins, Kris Kristofferson, Bob Dylan, and Waylon Jennings. Here's Ray and Charlie, along with Don Schlitz and Bobby Bare, performing the blues standard "My Babe" live on CabaRay Nashville!

      @Bobby Bare🔹 I was born one day after you (8th of April 1952).I hope that you will be around and singing as long as possible. It's a great honor to hear from you. Thank you very much. By the way: Your song "Streets of Baltimore" converted me from pop music to country music in 1969. I've bee a country fan ever since.

    A great standard by the poet laureate of the blues, Willie Dixon, who wrote it for Little Walter, as great a harmonica player as ever was, and Charlie McCoy does all right by him! Blues and country are so close sometimes, it's hard to tell where one ends and the other begins! Charlie's 81st is tomorrow; happy birthday and God bless, Charlie!
