Cherokee NC Island Cleaned Up After Hurricane Helene 2024

The Cherokee Tribe has cleaned up the Island. Cherokee was not hit as bad as the surrounding counties and was able to rebound quickly. There were a couple of areas that flooded causing services such as power, cell coverage and internet to be out. Cherokee citizens and Tribal Government are helping their neighbors in the recovery.

So good to see it back to normal. But it's so sad to have heard and seen all the damage this hurricane did. 😢 We don't deal with this kind of thing up here, thankfully, but my heart and prayers go out those who were affected. 🙏🏻

What’s amazing is that island is still there and the river did not change course.

I’m not sure if you were able to see but did the bamboo forest on the island do well in those floodwaters? Thanks for the update.
