Sonata Arctica - They Follow

  • I walk with the crowd, alone,
    Unseen, or am I imagining?
it's easy keep hiding at home
    Still healing
I teach myself how to stay calm
When they wish to behold me
They may, take and divide my time
The secret, no one told me...
Like creatures of the night, they follow...
    Bearing the wrong side
    Is hard for me sometimes
This need I still can recognize
To swim in the oceans of vanity
Some of us enjoy the rain
    [Choir:] and thunder
For me all the shadows are bright
I'm burning in the starlight and I
Hope to feel light as a kite
And fly towards the twilight of my life
Like creatures of the night, they follow...
    Bearing the wrong side
    Is hard for me sometimes
    And now they
    have disappointed my broken heart
    I'm dancing, they're demanding
The unknown and innocent days are gone
    Taken without asking
    Safe, further away,
I'll disappear like a mountain without a trace
They tied a knot on my life
It gets tighter when I try to hide.
A face of a newly wedded clown
    Doesn't offer you the high
Now you're lower than the poor souls you feed
Built the walls out of silence
I will not be taken there anymore
What is wrong with your eyes?
    Sad for the right reasons?
I'll show you the ashes of life
    No empathy behind your eyes
Sleeping like an angel every night
    I don't feel Safe,
Can't disappear without getting my last embrace
They tied a knot on my life
It gets tighter when I try to hide.
I don't feel Safe, further away,
Can't disappear without getting my last embrace
    Once the time finally comes
Will they dig me up from my unmarked grave?

One of Sonata's songs to fall in love with.
This band should receive more respect.

Everything from 3:49 on is the Sonata Arctica brand of epic that you can't find anywhere else.

"the unknown and innocent days are gone, taken.. without asking.."
    One of their best sentences.
Makes me really sad about how true it is..

This is a magnificent song. For me this is the best Sonata Arctica ballad. These lyrics can be interpreted in so many different ways and for me this is a very personal song.

I'm no musician so I dont know how to put it properly, but I seems to have a pattern of 3 beats instead of 4, which makes it sound like a waltz

Yeah, this is 3/4 or 6/8 time signature (how you wanna see it, eventually the same thing); waltz rhythm :)

It was my least favourite album for a while, but one day it clicked, and while my favourite album can vary, I'd call this their best for sure.

I didn't like this album a lot when I first heard it, but, hell, it grew on me, it is my absolute favorite for sure

Anyone else see this as a reference to sin? When the demons wish to use me, they easily can because nobody told me. Those creatures of the night follow. I see need, and i'm swimming in the oceans of emptyness. For me, all the light burns, and i wish to have my burden removed. And now they have disappointed my broken heart. All my innocence is gone and taken without asking. I've tried running, but they have me on a string. Now, nothing makes me happy, and you're now lower than those you feed.
