Hello Victoria! I’ve been watching a few videos and they are great. I am currently a Respiratory Therapist and I am also going back to school to finish my health information technology program I started a year ago. I had to take a break from the program due to personal issues at home. The main thing that I am worried about is I am really close to finishing this program but I wanted to start off as a medical coder first just so that I could get some experience. (BTW the main reason for this career change is because I want to work from home and most likely do respiratory as a contingent position). My question is do you recommend to start off in billing and work my way up to medical coding? Also do you know of any practice websites for coding that can help refresh my mind? I kind of wish I never really started this program to receive my RHIT because I feel unprepared in a away. I wish I just did a certificate program in medical coding! I want to eventually use my associates degree but I also want to start from somewhere and work my way up. Hopefully you can respond and ease my mind a bit. Haha, thanks!
Thanks for sharing your concerns. It's understandable to worry about AI in the medical coding field. However, it's important to remember that AI, like Maverick AI, is designed to assist and enhance the work of medical coders, not replace them. The technology helps automate certain aspects of the coding process, reducing the burden of repetitive tasks and allowing coders to focus on more complex cases that require human expertise and judgement. Moreover, the introduction of AI in the field opens up new opportunities for coders to upskill and work in areas like AI supervision, quality control, and more. So, rather than viewing AI as a threat, we can see it as a tool that can make our work more efficient and rewarding. Hope this helps alleviate some of your concerns! 😊
I just signed up for the Preppy Medical and Coding class!! I am so excited!! 😆 Now what physical books you recommended I purchase at this point? I am not working at the moment so I plan to immerse myself with the training full time. Thank you for your tips in getting started!! I am scared and excited at the same time. 😆
You need no books now for the course it's a ebook on line, The physical books they do send to you, you have to ask them too but you need the right books when you sit for exam like the cpc exam, They tell you the exact books you need. The cpt book they send us I cannot use it for cpc exam so that one I would have to buy on my own
Elsie, Victoria has a video about books as well. One of her recommendations was Anatomy for Coding. I bought that one and it’s amazing. It gives great info on what to look for in the coding, the terminology and all of the anatomy, plus pathologies and procedures by body system.

I read a comment in this thread that it's still hard to get a job once you're certified but have no experience. Is that true? I worry because if I were to pass the tests, I come from a background in customer service and marketing
It's true that gaining experience can be valuable when starting out in the medical coding field. However, it's not impossible to find a job without prior experience. Networking, internships, and entry-level positions can provide opportunities to gain practical experience and showcase your skills. Leverage your customer service and marketing background to highlight transferable skills that can make you a valuable candidate. Keep learning, stay persistent, and consider joining professional associations to enhance your job prospects. Good luck with your journey!

hello I have a question that may have been previously asked: like this switch to coding Can one just flat out and take the test since I'm familiar with a lot of the coding
A degree is actually not required to become a medical coder. Many people enter the field with just a high school diploma or GED and then obtain a coding certification from a recognized organization like the AAPC or AHIMA. There are, however, certificate and associate degree programs available if you want a more structured educational pathway. But the key is obtaining the right certifications and hands-on experience. Hope that helps!

Haha, thanks!
do you think coding jobs will be taken over by AI? i am looking into going into this field but am super nervous about AI taking it over...
Thank you for this video. Would you recommend Preppy over Andrews?
Do you have any opinions about the Penn Foster program? I have been holding off on signing up because I haven't seen anyone really talk about it.
Has anyone enrolled in this preppy masterclass?? I'm Intrested in becoming a medical coder but I have 0 experience 😢
I just finished it
You need no books now for the course it's a ebook on line, The physical books they do send to you, you have to ask them too but you need the right books when you sit for exam like the cpc exam, They tell you the exact books you need.
@@jayhutch794 how long did it take you to finish?
@@stacydonnelly4035 ok great! Thanks!
what is preppy?
when I click on the master class link it says it's not secure
I am currently taking the preppy course. Do I have to worry about having the A removed from my certification as well? I'm not sure I fully understand what this entails.
Hello, did you end up finishing the Preppy course and taking the CPC exam and externship? If so would you recommend Preppy? I'm debating which program to take.
Hey Moll, i have a question so am intrested in medical billing and doing CPB do i really need to do medical coding?? or if i wana stick with medical billing then what do u say ir advise me about that
Hi Victoria I would like to start the program which route would you consider taking
Hi Victoria. I m trying to visit the sure of kode health. But it's saying access denied
Is it country based access only? As I'm located in Dubai. Please do help me out. I'm in the process of getting certification. Still on CPC chapters. Your videos help a lot. Hope I can become as good as you 1 day.
How do you get in touch with AAPC in local chapter?
I really enjoy your videos, I just started billing & coding myself. Please pray for me to be successful. ? Thank you in advance. 😊❤
Hello there. I am new to this medical coding journey. I have been a medical transcriptionist for 20 years and very versed in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. I love the medical field(behind the scenes) I am really excited to get started. I am registering for your masterclass and I am going to purchase Bucks coding books. Do you think that will be enough to get me started in this field? Can you help me with quickest course of action? I am 52 and not interested in going back to school for my degree. What do you think? TIA ❤
When you say Medical Coding do you mean that you know Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Medical Billing and Coding also or are you just doing just Medical Billing and Coding ? And is there a way to just learn Medical Billing only ?
Thank you so much Victoria. You pretty confused me I am from a medical background have lot of exposure in insurance side from India. I am an asylee presently in US wanted to start medical coding after I receive work permit. I was focused on online classes from aapc but after ur video for preppy, I am confused now what to choose
Can u help me in this case?
And how can I get books?
I’m in the process of getting into the Medical coding field and also very interested in applying for your Bootcamp. I want to ask if the medical coding certification can be articulated to Automation Tester. Can both be related in a sort of way?
No those are two completely different. Medical coding isn’t like tech coders code
Hi Victoria, (Contempo coding) how many hours of clinical or work experience do you need to set for the cpc certified exam? And not be in apprentice status.
Hi, Victoria, I want to be a medical biller and I saw AAPC has dual training course for CPC and CPB. Would you recommend to take both courses or just CPB?
I have a Diploma in Medical coding and billing. I need to refresh my memory due to getting a job in physical therapy receptionist and medical billing.how can I refresh an I have my books away thinking I would never use them again since I was working at a retail store as a Store manager.now I retire my retail an got a job in billing.what to do??
Hello Victoria, I need your advice. I received my degree in medical coding 2008. I took my test for the last time in 2016, but didn’t pass it. I want to start back studying for this test again. What is a good starting point?
Hi. I currently work in healthcare doing charge editing and would like to get my CPC. Most people I work with has gone through AAPC but the price is much more than I want to spend. Would you recommend me taking the preppy medical coding class with having 13 years experience in the medical field? I am looking for a class to prep me for the exam?
Yes, I just finish there course it will help and the price is right that's why I went with them. My local college had the same price but the course had started already and I was so happy to find them. Just remember you have to ask for them to send you the books. The book for the course are ebooks. Good luck.
I went through preppy
Thanks so much for your response! :)
Like your videos. I am currently a claims Analysts for medical insurance. I would like to get certification but not sure where to start in education. Do you have any suggestions?
Don't you need the actual manuals to take the certification tests? My concern is that if you're not taught to use the actual paper manuals (as opposed to virtual books) you won't be adequately prepared for the exam.
Yes you have to buy your books when you ready to take exam, or you can buy now to look through them
@@jayhutch794 Do you know what virtual books you are given access to in this course?
@@nicolekeenan8685 It's the cpt book, but honestly I wasn't reading the chapters, but you have to read all the steps through out the course. For my exams I was using Google for now. Now that I am done I am watching you tube videos and looking through the physical books they send you
@@jayhutch794 What physical books do they send you, and are they included in the price of the course?
@@nicolekeenan8685 yes they are included but you have to send email to receive them, They send the cpt plus, which we cannot use for exam for cpc, They sent icd-10-cm and the hcpcs book
I tried signing up for Preppy but the discount code from the master class doesn’t work :(
I believe it was for a limited time but email them I just finish course started the end if april
@@jayhutch794 are you still happy with the course? Would you recommend it?
@@MS-nr6qy I was happy with course straight forward to the point
@@jayhutch794 did you receive your certification?
Hi Victoria! I did not see anything on Preppy's website regarding the contact hours? Do you know if they provide the 80 required contact hours to qualify for the 1 year towards CPC-A? Thanks!
It's at your own pace you have to finish by 10 I started the end of April and I just finish last week. So it's all up to your pace . It has nothing to do with sitting for exam. When you done you study until you ready to take the cpc exam
They say they want you to be finish by october
@@jayhutch794 Hi there! I’m considering enrolling in Preppy’s Medical Billing and Coding Program as well. I’d really appreciate your input! Do you recommend it? Any suggestions?
@@ItsJuleen It was a good course it has one part medical terminology and then the other part anatomy. Remember these schools teach you the basis alot of information dont get me wrong, but you are not going to learn coding just from taking a course. It worked for me I am looking at youtube videos to study for the exam.
@@jayhutch794 Thanks for the response! Can you explain that more? Are you saying that you don’t feel you learned what you need in this Preppy Program? Isn’ this a program to learn coding? What makes you say “you are not going to learn coding just from taking a course”?
What steps do you suggest someone to take in order to re-enter the coding field who has an AHIMA accredited medical coding certification from a community college program, an AAS in HIM, who coded for several years but then got into cancer registry work then research so they let their CPC certification go when we switched to ICD-10 because “I ain’t learning a whole new set of numbers” 😂 (but now really regrets doing that…asking for a friend 😉).
I’m an empty nester and would LOVE to work remotely. There’s a local AAPC coding chapter I used to belong to but they’re not very responsive on their FB page and that’s the only contact I have for them. I wanted to attend a meeting but they’re not listed. 😬
Hi Victoria,I came to USA 3 months ago from India.I passed CPC exam last November but don't have any experience.I am bachelor in homoeopathy. Can u suggest how to start my career as a medical coder here as a fresher.

very helpful
Glad you think so!
hello I have a question that may have been previously asked:
like this switch to coding Can one just flat out and take the test since I'm familiar with a lot of the coding
Yep, buy and schedule here: www.aapc.com/certification/locate-examination.aspx
Good luck!
Can anyone please suggest which degree better to become medical coder
A degree is actually not required to become a medical coder. Many people enter the field with just a high school diploma or GED and then obtain a coding certification from a recognized organization like the AAPC or AHIMA. There are, however, certificate and associate degree programs available if you want a more structured educational pathway. But the key is obtaining the right certifications and hands-on experience. Hope that helps!
What is the distinction between auditing and coding in the healthcare industry?
Auditing is quality checking.
Do you do resumes rewrites for ppl?
Hii
Who has the better opportunity in your words
Is the software engineer or a medical coder
Hello, I wanted to ask your opinion if I could...I went to Heald College and took Medical Billing and Coding however I didn't finish I got a job halfway through...after listening to yjour videos It all came back to me that was in 2012. I feel like joining a course would give me a lot of stuff I already know...I work for a major Hospital in Sacramento, CA and have been working in hospital Admissions sense 2012. There is a pt medical record coding abs tractor 3 and 4 I can work from home good pay. I just have to be certified. If you don't mind what would you do? I have 40,000 in dept student loans I got discharged due to illegal stuff my school did. I don't want any dept. Besides Preppy knock'd off the laptop if I pay payment lol
Question about covid 19 shot are they requiring the shot even if you are working from home ?
It depends entirely on the organization, there is no blanket industry answer.
Do you teach the CPC course in the Preppy program?
I do not teach any introductory medical coding courses at this time.
how much does her masterclass cost?
Can you go over how to re certify for CCA?
Hi Casey! I am not a member of AHIMA so I cannot speak to their recertification process.
I would appreciate any feedback
Is there any option to start study medical coding there for Indian citizen?
Yes but not being from India, I do not have resources to provide you.
Has anyone enrolled in the Preppy medical billing and coding class? I watched the masterclass video and want to get started but I can’t find reciting that company. I’ve been screwed with certificate programs in the past and don’t want it to happen again.
I've had a few commenters that have spoken up about going through the course and loved it. It's fairly new, so there's not going to be a ton of reviews out there yet.
And I can so relate -- I went to one college yeaaaars ago and didn't realize how much I was racking up in student loan debt until my student loans wouldn't cover classes anymore. Yikes.
The program is in partnership with Auburn University, so you can check out information on the college itself if that makes you more comfortable. I'm not sure I can find and tag the previous commenters.
