I live in Florida, and just went through Ian. People think evacuation is a no brainer, but its not like that at all. Weather people have no idea so they predict...so, you evacuate, miss 4 days of work and nothing happens. You get fired, lose your house. We can through this several x a year. . By the time anyone knows anything for sure, its zero hour. Good luck going anywhere in jammed traffic and sometimes the hurricane goes right where you evacuated to! Its hard so people please don't judge. There are way too many factors at play. Have a plan, of course, and go if you can, but its not reality for many of us. God bless Mr and Mrs H. Love you so much!

i grew up in the deep south. we hardly ever evacuated during hurricane season, so we prepared as much as possible.
cash was tight and we didn't have reliable transportation for the entire family.
God preserved us through the storms-thank you Jesus.

I would add power banks to the evacuation list. I have collected several, but if you were to start now, getting one that can charge with USB or solar would be your best option. Having backup cords and adapters in your glove box will come in handy even when there is no emergency. Those cords and adapters sold at Dollar Tree are perfect for this. Wind up radios will also fit in there. These are important because having to run your car and burn gas to charge things or be able to get news is the least optimal situation.

We all should have some emergency supplies in our car. Thank you for the information. I didn’t think about pillows and blankets but I am going to get those together and place them in the back area of my vehicle this week. Should also make room for bottled water as well. Blessings to you for sharing your insight!

Not even just for hurricane country. But also wildfire areas, earthquake areas. And you should have a plan to evacuate through every exit in your home (which might be a window). And every exit off your property, which may not be a road or driveway. And once you get to the road, have 2 or 3 options in case the road is impassible in one direction, if you can. And if you’re in tornado country, you NEED to have an emergency shelter below ground. Your bathtub will only save you if you’re incredibly lucky. Thank y’all for bringing up this important topic!

Over the years, we have had family members caught up in an assortment of natural disaster areas. We have discovered two things 1) Phone (land and cell) and other communication avenues within and immediately surrounding the natural disaster area are a mess. It is often easier to get a call in than out. If someone does get a chance to get a call out, it is spontaneous and can't be planned. What we have done is "assign" someone with excellent voice mail and willing to receive a phone call in the middle of the night located in a couple of places across the country to be contact people. Most are willing to try to place calls into the affected area and then also phone tree to others if they do get contact. That contact into and out of an affected area can be a mere short few seconds so get the important info out like who all is with you, where you all are at, any location info of others, any medical/ injury issues, where you are headed next, and if there is an organization or location where future info is likely to be. We are all suppose to have at least one contact's phone number memorized. 2) The news and available information is often less in the affected area than what others are getting elsewhere and across the country. If you have the opportunity to reach out to others outside the affected area without running your phone charger to nothing, do so earlier rather than latter to find out what type of news and the specifics they are receiving. Even evacuation notices, available shelters, and damage reports, weather reports, etc... can have better information outside the area than what's available within the area.

After moving to Pensacola, FL in 2016 we experienced Hurricane Sally. That was enough for us Tennessee and Chicago folks. We are bugout ready and know how long it takes to evacuate to Tennessee.

I have to say i watch a lot of preppers vids. No one is stating the obvious. With candles, cooking with fire, please tell ppl that they need fire extinguishers!!! THERE is also a can of fire extinguisher that is the size of a can of room spray. I have both. We need to go back to basics and cook/light with fire, so have an extinguisher!! Ps. I LOVE YOUR CHANNELS

You should talk about how to recover from a hurricane; how it is important not to wait for your insurance company and municipalities to respond that you need to respond for yourselves that more destruction, illness and death does not occur while you are waiting. Respond for yourself and then get paid back later. Just remember to take pictures of before the storm right after the storm and how you recovered. And have your receipts for your materials and labor. Thank you for sharing. Be well and be safe.

When its an emergency remember that they used to stuff 10 to 30 people in the old, VW bugs. Car seats, seat belts, molded seats, people placement, pet placement, and the like become less important.

I lived in naples Florida for 35 years. They do have shelters that accept pets but you need their shot records. Also, make sure you have a supply of your prescription medication because you don't know how long you will be gone. Also, make sure you have identification for every family member because they won't let you re-enter unless you live in that neighborhood. They try really hard to prevent looting and if you don't live there then you don't belong there.

I was surprised how many who stayed were elderly. They planned to ride out the storm, but no real plan to ride out the aftermath. Even if you have a third floor condo can you manage stairs? With no power, flooded elevators don't work. Can you live without your car that flooded? I can't imagine riding out the worst night of your life only to have absolutely nothing in the morning.
I used to live in Florida, but now in SC. In my area we were lucky. Most storms I expect 3 days without power and it has been a week before.. Odd thing this time is the cooler weather we are having.

    Hey ya'll
How are you 2 doing with your crops. Fertilizer is going be hard to find for us in the south eastern state's. If you eat alot of fish and if you don't. It's all good cause the southern Indians have used this technique for centuries. Fish scales & bones are perfect for Fertilizer. My specialty in FFA was Horticulture and landscaping. Although I did raise some hogs. This sea/saw weather were are exspirencing doesn't do us any favors either. Spring might come a little early this year, but also keep your fingers crossed. A little snow is ok. But a big snow storm will mess things up. So we just go to the Lord in prayer and ask him to keep us from harms way, and take care of our fields during the cold season.

We have different meet-up places planned for specific types of potential natural disasters. In our area, a little bit of snow constitutes an emergency depending upon how much, how fast its falling, where you're starting from, where you live, a d individuals circumstances. But we have the potential for others. We have a general plan for who is going to head to where depending upon where they would be coming from; and a plan subject to instant change of which roads. We have a general plan for who is going to stay put and be more on thier own (they are prepared and generally MUCH safer unless they try to venture out) unless there is some sort of a real emergency. We have a plan of where messages will be left; we still have community bulletin boards scattered about in some stores. (This includes a message of look for me in the parking lot, a near by park, or other building.) Now that the parents who had lived through more natural disasters and weren't upto walking far, have passed there isn't as much of this discussed. We and the one who was working in the Mission District during the San Fransciso earthquake remain the most interested and we've discussed what our personal plans are.

have a list of phone numbers and contact info, I use to know everybody's phone number but not now I just hit their contact info, lost it all when I dropped my phone and broke the screen, or phone could get wet, I don't think I ever recovered all my contact information
I would keep a map in car in case you have to make a detour and don't have internet
