"Kombilesa mi est né en 2011 à San Basilio de Palenque en Colombie. Il a été formé par un groupe de jeunes ayant la volonté de réunir plusieurs musiciens de rap de San Basilio. Ces derniers mêlent musique afro urbaine hip hop avec les rythmes traditionnels tels que le bullerengue, le son palenquero et les instruments traditionnels comme le tambor, le bombo, le cununo. Ces musiciens, fiers de leurs racines africaines et de leur village, poursuivent comme objectifs de sauvegarder et diffuser leurs traditions. Cette aspiration se traduit dans la création d’un nouveau genre musical, le « rap folklorico palenkero ». Engagés aussi dans la défense de leur langue ancestrale, la plupart de leurs textes sont écrits en palenquero tout comme le nom du groupe qui signifie « mes amis ».
L’histoire de Kombilesa mi est donc étroitement liée à celle San Basilio de Palenque. C’est un village de 3500 habitants situé au sud de Carthagène des Indes faisant ainsi partie de la région caraïbéenne de la Colombie. San Basilio a été fondé au XVII ème siècle, par un groupe d’esclaves en fuite dans lequel ils ont cherché refuge et se sont défendus contre la couronne espagnole. Plusieurs palenques, villages fortifiés ont été édifiés en Amérique du Sud et aux Caraïbes mais c’est le seul à avoir traversé le temps et à subsister encore aujourd’hui.
San Basilio est considéré comme être un coin de l’Afrique en Colombie tant ses habitants sont profondément attachés à leurs racines africaines, à leurs traditions ancestrales et à leur langue. C’est la seule langue créole qui mélange l’espagnol avec des langues africaines comme le bantu. Cette particularité a valu à San Basilio, d’être déclaré en 2005 comme chef d’œuvre du patrimoine oral et immatériel de l’humanité par l’Unesco. Kombilesa mi est ainsi un groupe qui nous fait voyager à la fois en Colombie et en Afrique. Il offre la possibilité de découvrir, une culture, une communauté, une identité insoupçonnable." _ Stéphanie CAO
