- To address harmful methane released from livestock into the atmosphere, New Zealand is taxing farmers and their livestock for these emissions.
With a population of merely five million, the nation’s carbon footprint is relatively small. Its hoofprint, however, is through the roof.
In a world-first, New Zealand’s farmers will have to pay a tax for every methane-emitting 10 million cattle and 26 million sheep that roam the scenic countryside. Farmers will be able to mitigate their tax burden if they lower emissions by modernizing their operations.
Where the program could fail, is if farmers pick up and move their businesses to another country. With the average cow emitting a whopping 220 pounds of methane gas per day, Mike Drolet reports on the impact this move could have.

Farmers are under ZERO obligation to pay this tax. It is morally acceptable for them to use defensive violence against anyone who tries to force them to pay it.

The policians should be taxed for all the cars and jets they use to travel with all their body guards and still use OUR money for it but we must walk.
Only the president (U.S.) and VP has secret service protection. No Senator or Congressperson has a jet. There may be some top senators or speaker of the house that may have a car and driver provided but body guards are not paid by the government.

I support range cattle. Not in forests, but on natural grasses. When cattle eat what they are meant to eat they are perfectly fine in my opinion. It's when the crazy stuff starts like what caused the outbreaks of Mad Cow Disease.. Also, breading programs can go mad. Humans are not good at redesigning nature. It always ends up in a screw up.

Big billionaires have invested in the synthetic meat industry. Of course, for synthetic meat to be adopted, real meat must disappear. To achieve this, they came up with the fallacy that "cows and sheep emit methane gas". Thus, cows and sheep would be treated as monsters. However, these and other ruminant animals have been living for millions of years and do not cause any harm to nature. Are they harmful now? If you are so sincere, close down coal-fired factories and power plants and switch to solar and wind energy. Eliminate cars, trucks, planes, yachts, ships and military vehicles that produce carbon dioxide by burning gasoline and diesel every day.
