This is a masterpiece of a movie. It is both visceral and deeply emotional. It is as much about the first American mission that put the first man on the Moon as it is about family, the tensions arising from the given circumstances and love. Everyone who worked on this should be extremely proud because the result is fabulous: the acting is fantastic to say the least, the script is so well judged and carries the story flawlessly, the way it is shot transports you directly in the middle of the action and puts you literally on the Moon, the music, the editing, everything...this has Oscars and Globes and what have you written all over it. Must be seen on a big screen!
Ryan Gosling has two daughters, one of which was about Karen's age when this movie was made. It's easy to see how he channeled his experiences as a father to make this scene so realistic and heart-wrenching.

Ryan was born 11 years AFTER the moon landing, so he had to act based on research of films, interviews, and books. He had not actually lived through the space race, the projects, and finally the landing. For all of us who actually lived through those years, we experienced and remember a different kind of America; it wasn't perfect, but it remains the only country on earth to be held up in comparison to perfection and criticized for not being better. What other country has that??
Such a disappointing movie. Really terrific actors - but not at all a good film. A bunch of shallow vignettes that repeatedly establish what most of us already knew - that Armstrong was a touch taciturn - at the expense of good story telling/film making.

I agree with you man. I personally think Damien should win the best director award
Claire Fly’s accent was brilliant in the film. I completely forgot she was a Brit
Don’t be surprised 😯. She again used an American 🇺🇸 accent in Women Talking (2022).

To find out what Apollos really were I offer my fresh comment under:
RUclips: (First Man: Ignore the 'ridiculous' controversy, this is Oscar gold)

I hope Chazelle is interested in making a movie on Gene Cernan, titled, "Last Man".
Lance: .. launch. Armstrong: Superman arm when he flies straight up. Could his name be any more perfect for an astronaut on a bike haha.
This is really that one reason for hatin' playing the violin. Jazz, Jazz and Space.
Damien has a hunch.

What's the music at 4:08?
Music at 2:27 ?
I do agree. They should have just added the flag scene would have really nailed it
Bla Bla, it’s a world achievement, not America’s
There was a shot of an American flag near the end.
dont see why she has to be the wifey all the time, she could go into space
Because this is an historic film not fiction.
as long as she gets paid what is due
Because the real person herself wasn't an astronaut? And happened to be married to the person the movie is about? 😂
That is wierd that they didnt show flag planting...
@Roger Clemons lol provide your evidence....
If it was fake do you not think the Soviets would have said something....
This movie was too Terrence Malik for my taste.
Actors playing actors.
lol
🙄🙄 okay
Trump 2020 will bring us to neptune

You're weird. Nothing more to say.
True. But it was still a very disappointing, one note film. If you enjoyed it, great.
You clearly know very little about cinema
