The Master System was a beast!! So much wasted potential, man! From not using PSG+FM to this. I wish the day when people really discovered the SMS was to come... People usually have eyes for Genesis & NES only, though.
I keep seeing people on SMS Power insist that these tricks are impossible. I explain how they can work, but then get told that it can't be done. Now we can share another video proving that it is being done!
@@inceptional My big thing is watching videos on Game Hut and tech demos for the Genesis and being told that it could never be done on the SMS... despite using the exact same hardware trick that was developed for the SMS VDP! It's a 14MHz 16-bit RISC processor that performs two operations per clock cycle. More than 70% of the horsepower of the system is there. All you really need is to use one or two of the 14 or so memory moves from the Z80 (each scanline) to tell the VDP to change the background pallet or X or Y position of that background. This takes only a few cycles from the CPU and is done on many different early 90s SMS games already. Hell, you get both vertical and horizontal parallax scrolling using animated background tiles that only take 8x8 x 32 bytes in the ROM cart, or 2KB. NES developers had to do these things all the time to remain competitive in that rough and tough market.
@@inceptional Worst part is that, if SEGA had just invested in a few of their smaller developers--which they never did even right up to the company's collapse--they could've advertised breathtaking 3D graphics on the SMS and shown PS-like tech demos on the release of the Genesis and Sega CD.
I don't know why more Genesis/MD games didn't use this and some of the other impressive effects in games like this. Like so few did, such as Adventures of Batman and Robin, Toy Story, and a few others...
well most devs just didnt bother with fancy technology and better focused on good gameplay and overall graphics also these effects was made by skilled people which not every company have 🤷🏻♂️

Agreed.
If I did not read this is on Master System, I would have bet it was on Mega Drive. It is still hard to believe.
I know this felling, bro.
:-D
Amazing! I didn't realize it was on SMS...thought it was on Mega Drive and it would be impressive if it was so
Me too. A very well done job.
