This interview is just over 20 years old. Roger Whittaker is 84 years old now ( August 2020) and living in retirement in France with his wife Natalie. He performed his last series of sell out concerts in Germany, where he was a genuine superstar, in 2013. Roger had one of the greatest, most distinct and warm voices in popular music and it's likely his songs will be still be played when most of the other singers of his era will be long forgotten. And as this interview shows, he is a gentleman of the highest order. Long may he enjoy his retirement!
Never heard on any UK radio station it seems which is a shame. The interviewer while pleasant and curtious unfortunately talks far too fast. Roger whittaker in comparison is so calm and laid back in this replies he's practically horizontal ! Looking good for 77 here
I know Elton John did a great job with the Lion King soundtrack, but I wish this guy would have composed it. He would have sounded fantastic singing "Be Prepared" by Scar.
So interesting, intelligent, talented and honest. I'd love to meet him and am sure he would be warm, humorous and captivating. That rich voice would make a shopping list sound so good. A charming, talented man that has given a life work of brilliant song and music to us to enjoy. Any language, every song absolute brilliance.
What a beautiful speaking voice Roger Whittaker has, and his talent is so underrated. My mum loved his songs, especially the whistling, she was good at whistling, not as good as Roger though.
What a wonderful man I’m sure the 1st song on the radio when I was 3 or 4 that I remembered was this gentle guy this year I turn 53 every now and then I have to you tube him and it takes me back thank you Rodger
Back in the mid-1980s Roger's parents who lived in Kenya were attacked and his father was murdered while his mother was seriously injured.....she came to England to live with Roger and his family but never once spoke of the matter. So I'd say Kenya a country which he still loves was out of the picture as a retirement location. He explained he moved from Ireland, where he lived for several years because the constant rain and damp was not doing his wives severe arthritis any good.
