Good advice, can I add that it's wise to watch numerous auctions to see how the bidding process progresses. Very wise info about sticking to the car type you know. If you use the app on an iPad you get the full vehicle reg number so you can look up mot history (very usefu). You will notice that some vehicles are category S when there appears to be only panel damage and no structural damage, do not assume this has been an error by Copart! I would not buy a vehicle without viewing in person. Items to look for, if you are amateur then stay away from damage to steering or suspension only buy panel damage. Look to see if the car has had previous damage (paint doesn't quite match). Often they will photo each wheel, this is important as you need to see each wheel sits accurately within the wheel arch space. The quality of the tyres ie are they premium tyres or budget shows how well the car has been cared for. The edge of the wheels will also show how well the car has been driven, well at least how well how well it has avoided being kerbed. Last advice is to look at the parts you will need to buy in advance and how much they are going to cost. Body panels in ORIGINAL matching colour are worth travelling a distance for as this can make your repair undetectable and save time etc in painting costs. Buying from Copart is a risk and sometimes it's cheaper to buy on eBay or similar where you can always walk away if the advert doesn't accurately reflect the advertised car.
I think I resolved a mistery of cat S with minimal damage... Have a look at Chrome Toolbar: www.auctionhunter.io and browse this lot for example which is for sale right now: www.copart.co.uk/lot/29896450. It looks like this car is the second time on Copart and this time it has only minimal damage but previous entry was not so good...
Great advice Paul. As retirement looms, I now have a strategy to play in the garage and fix a few of these. My Snap On tools investment will at last pay dividends!!! Thanks a lot and keep these coming. Cheers John
Such great advice It worked I was interested in a car looks perfect from out but when I go there and checked the car had gasket and had cracked from side of the engine and it looks like there was a lot things was changed which you don’t see on the picture and the car was around £16k
Fully repaired you need to be in it for no more than 2/3rd's of the 'STRAIGHT' price, a 6k car is worth no more than 4k. So a car needing £1500 worth of work, don't go bidding 3k, you'll be upset.
thank you for the information regarding the the additional copart costs, i wouldn't have considered that to much if and when i get round to purchasing my first copart project. great video as always mate
rare to get a car at a good price now..fees are crazy which alot of new buyers forget when bidding.alot of cars are bodged up and misguided by pictures which are awful.bring back the physical auction anyday.

dude, you also forgot the £100 membership fee before you can bid, i recently won a car for 550 the cost at the end of auction was 808 without delivery or collection, staggering charges, 40 pound to bring it from the site to the entrance on a forklift ! also why are we paying a membership fee and a bidders fee? crazy, probably wont buy again

Hi Paul, thank you for the info! I’ve just placed a bid on a Golf GTD salvage car but the Reg plates link it to a Normal golf that’s currently insured. Is that an instant red flag?
