Solar said in interview that kpop industry is full of talented artist, she once thought she was a person who doesn't have much to stand out from and wonderded why she couldn't do one thing perfectly. However, while preparing for this album, she tried six styles of music, which made her realize that she is able to do different things equally well even if she's not good at one particular thing. This process made her identify with herself and think postively! Also, "But I" implys that you can abandon your bad ex, past self, bad feeling and thinkings, etc.❤🔥
imo this story is about having been in a relationship with someone who was cruel and made you unhappy and took your light. Then, you get out of it. You mourn the time /wasted/ in the relationship and say goodbye to the person you had become while in that place, as you get to be yourself again and get to be free. The way the verses end off really sells it. "Everybody thought I was happy, happy, but I, I, I...." Everyone /thought/ they had a good relationship. But actually, it was awful. And then, "Everybody thinks I'm not happy, happy, but I, I, I..." People think that she must be unhappy because they've broken up and must be still pining over him, but no, she's ecstatic now.
Solar once said the main character broke up with her bf, and everyone thought they were a sewwt couple and the man was such a good man. but indeed the woman hated her bf inside
