So beautiful!!! I can never understand why the governments make things so difficult financially that such historical places are left to decay and fall apart. Great job with the filming and the photography!
Bloody WOW!!!!! This place is beautiful, a mixture of very old and not so old. The four posters, the Targes the Swords, the Clean bathrooms, the grounds. JUST WOW. We were just blown away watching this. THANK YOU Alec.
I'm late to see this and reach your comment section, but Alec, this was a truly amazing experience for me just watching! And for you to see firsthand I'm sure was even more so. I've always been interested in castles, but this one outdoes all the rest! The architecture itself is incredibly beautiful. It was a bit scary seeing the exterior of what appeared to be a prison with barred windows and only slots to let in minimal daylight. All of the interior was magnificent! The skills necessary to create such a masterpiece are nearly nonexistent today. I've read below that a couple purchased the property, and that's fantastic. Thank you so much for a beautiful tour with the special guest - the shaggy dog.
My parents got married here .. it is such a beautiful place and I'm gutted that it's been abandoned. The history involves a woman in the 16th century who inherited the castle from her father but she was forced into being wed to a man she didn't love so she jumped from the tower and her ghost haunts the grounds. I don't know why it closed down but it was pretty recent. I hope somebody takes over and opens it as a hotel again. The room at 19:29 is the room I stayed in.

Love the dog. So happy running about. I really believe someone is cleaning various rooms in this beautiful manor. The bedrooms and bathrooms are almost spotless. It is a shame (as with many of the places Alec comes upon) that such places are expensive to properly keep up. If I had a lot of money, I sure would try to bring them back to life, open to the public and hope to play with the dog!
This place is in pretty well condition , seems like some one is taking care of this beautiful place , from the condition at present u can't call it an abandoned place in my opinion.

Medieval? No. Was constructed in the 1850’s in the Scottish baronial style. It isn’t abandoned either. Was a hotel. Still owned. There should be a caretaker there somewhere
It looks like a nice update of an obviously historic structure, operated as a hotel and wedding venue. It's too bad that it's no longer functioning as such. It appears to have been a nice facility.

Interesting room of Weaponry, especially those Frails displayed on the wall.. A Frail is a wood club handle, with a chained spiked ball attached, the ones without the chains are called Morning Stars... Funny these Morning stars were also called, Holy Water Sprinklers.. 🤣Definitely nothing HOLY about this weapon! This is probably my favorite room... Still scary but amazing as well. Your right Alec the ceiling is amazingly beautiful. Awesome video, perfect for King Arthur and his men.⚔

No wonder I seem to have bad luck, maybe somebody put a hex on us 😬 or maybe I just to look at the glass as half full instead of half empty. Interesting though maybe some of our ancestors rubbed shoulders in the past heh.

He is another explorer, this is an Históric Building Heritage, está modernizado y se usa como hotel ... no se usa en invierno porque no hay turismo...No está abandonado...fue adaptado respetando la historia a estos tiempos...en la placa de bronce de las habitaciónes dice seguramente el nombre de las diferentes tipos de suites, si hasta tiene calentador de toallas! Ese edificio está impecable y cerrado en invierno! Magnifico, me encantaría hospedarme allí si voy a Escocía, debe ser bastante caro...Saludos desde Argentina

I honestly love this Alec brilliant it’s beautiful to even see it in that condition! I would of thought there wer sensors inside if they cameras/sensors outside didn’t work they ones inside would set the alarm off! Thank fully there’s no sensors inside but that’s definitely stunning! When these places close why do they just abandon them with beds made, etc? If they paid staff for one more week to store the custom canopy fabrics, coverlets, decorative pillows etc in air/water tight containers they would be usable for the next owners. That reproduction tapestry hanging in the stairwell is a couple thousand dollars new but will be full of mold by the time anyone else is able put this place to use.
I love the dog. Having a dog along also gives you plausible deniability if someone shows up. You can just say, “oh, sorry, yeah, got lost walking the dog when he wandered off.”

For a moment I thought the staff left this hotel due to the pandemic. But the expiry date on the biscuit was 2019 so the hotel venture was probably put on hold or deserted sometime earlier I suppose. WHAT AN ADORABLE DOGGO!

This place is NOT abandoned. You can’t just break into someone’s property because no one is in. I hope no one was in your house while you were filming this.
It is sad that for centuries this building was loved and lived in. All the relics show pride and the guns and swords alone make Me sad that they aren't being displayed proudly but are in ruin and will one day disappear. The home shows their family coat of arms and pride.

The hotel closed for business in February 2020 and put up for sale for £1.1m . It is under offer so hopefully it will be back into use soon.

Debi and Wendy turns out it wasn't empty After all... Not saying that Alex knew it either. Just saying that it was closed for winter. Oñly saying that cause that's what others some are say. But birds poo on a bed would say someone needs to do their job.

@Melinda Pelfrey lol well I'm certainly a commoner now as well as all my family. On another side of my family they came from one of the well known border reiver clans. No wonder I seem to have bad luck, maybe somebody put a hex on us 😬 or maybe I just to look at the glass as half full instead of half empty. Interesting though maybe some of our ancestors rubbed shoulders in the past heh.

He is another explorer, this is an Históric Building Heritage, está modernizado y se usa como hotel ... no se usa en invierno porque no hay turismo...No está abandonado...fue adaptado respetando la historia a estos tiempos...en la placa de bronce de las habitaciónes dice seguramente el nombre de las diferentes tipos de suites, si hasta tiene calentador de toallas! Ese edificio está impecable y cerrado en invierno! Magnifico, me encantaría hospedarme allí si voy a Escocía, debe ser bastante caro...Saludos desde Argentina

I honestly love this Alec brilliant it’s beautiful to even see it in that condition! I would of thought there wer sensors inside if they cameras/sensors outside didn’t work they ones inside would set the alarm off! Thank fully there’s no sensors inside but that’s definitely stunning!

When these places close why do they just abandon them with beds made, etc? If they paid staff for one more week to store the custom canopy fabrics, coverlets, decorative pillows etc in air/water tight containers they would be usable for the next owners. That reproduction tapestry hanging in the stairwell is a couple thousand dollars new but will be full of mold by the time anyone else is able put this place to use.

I love the dog. Having a dog along also gives you plausible deniability if someone shows up. You can just say, “oh, sorry, yeah, got lost walking the dog when he wandered off.”
This place is beyond awesome. It's so beautiful and so clean. I really hope that someone will step up and it will become well known so people will want to visit and get a room . The bathrooms are beautiful. So roomy

For a moment I thought the staff left this hotel due to the pandemic. But the expiry date on the biscuit was 2019 so the hotel venture was probably put on hold or deserted sometime earlier I suppose.

This place is NOT abandoned. You can’t just break into someone’s property because no one is in. I hope no one was in your house while you were filming this.
It is sad that for centuries this building was loved and lived in. All the relics show pride and the guns and swords alone make Me sad that they aren't being displayed proudly but are in ruin and will one day disappear. The home shows their family coat of arms and pride.
I just came across this video. What a beautiful place. It looks like it is ready to open with a little clean up. I'm surprised this place hasn't been stripped of all the items. If I had the money I would try to open it back up. Do you have any more details why this was closed and when?
Very beautiful, well kept. But the price to stay there ,is way over my head. Wealth and prestige only! 4 poster beds for the most, very ,very beautiful. Ty for the tour. Tc and stay safe always.
