As person who is a local and worked at PCC at island buffet. I always looked forward when our supervisor would say “make plate”. Once all the customers are gone and our door are closed we got to get make a plate of food from the buffet.
Great Vid! You did a lot and ate a lot of awesome food. This is coming from an Oahu local too. Makes me wanna go out and enjoy my island some more. Never did the tourist thing in a while. We end up taking for granted what's here. I went to NYC last year that was an adventure for me! One MUST eat place if you ever come back is Helena's Hawaiian Food... The best Hawaiian food on the island. I have heard about Marukame Udon and Maguro Bro's they have been on my list for years!
I wanted to try out Helena's!! We didn't have a car though so stuck mainly to what was in the Waikiki area.. next time. So jealous you're an Oahu local! The weather + food + people are all amazing. Hope you enjoyed your time in NYC last year!
@Edwin Wong ..you are so right about taking for granted what's here on Oahu...just watching this video and I haven't even been to some of these places!!! ..and I've lived on Oahu for '32 years'!!! ..guess we should go out more and do the "tourist thing"!!! @Angela - you did an AMAZING video of your trip to Hawaii!!! ..now I can understand why you really never ventured out of Waikiki...next time you visit try hop on "da Bus" - it pretty much goes EVERYWHERE on da Island!!!
I rlly recommend the Polynesian culture center! (In the video) there are so many great shows and food! And my tour guide was so kind! I had a fun time with my family. And, we ate at the buffet at night before we watched the last(best) show. 😅 so if ur looking for a fun, informative trip, that's the place for you.
Thank you so much for shering its beautiful I have been trying to take my kids for their birthday i hope i can find something to fit my baget 4 kids and my Quinn
May I ask what kind of clothes (shorts , pants ) and shoes ( hiking boots , sneakers) to hike when it’s dry and wet at places ?was there a lot mosquitoes? Thank you
I'd definitely recommend bug spray for hikes where it's a bit wet / muddy, as well as hiking shoes or just sneakers with a good grip as it can get slippery. I just wore regular shorts and a tshirt, nothing too sporty.
Just the video I needed as I’m spontaneously taking a trip there for the first time next week!! Which side of the ✈️ did you fly on to catch a glimpse of the Island 🏝 going before landing? Just want to enjoy the entire experience and views🤩
Duke's Waikiki is part of the Outrigger hotels in Hawai'i, the truly last of the family owned major hotels. The hula pie is worth the cost; although as part of our hotel training and orientation, this was part of our employee meal! Oh yes! Working in a hotel in Hawai'i is secure employment. 😊
Truthfully guys...you could skip the Marukame Udon. Lines way too long. There's a ton of ramen shops on Oahu. Pretty much with the same quality. If you actually want something that's popular with locals, then I suggest trying chinese saimin. Basically chinese ramen. It's what you find most times in local diners.
udon is different than ramen and marukame is ridiculously cheap for what you get. and the line moves quick. our line was out the door but it was only like a 6-7min wait
How did you pack the donuts back home on your trip? Did you put it in your carry on? I'm planning to bring back baked goods and packaged food as my Souvenir back home
Wow the food is just amazing! I had been hearing good reviews about the food! :) I always think that travels are made easier when you have the best travel gears and essentials too. The bento bag from Nomad Lane is my best carry-on bag for dream vacation destination like this. Thought I'd share it to you guys too!
Hanauma Bay - is on my trip list, you said you bought goggles and snorkel from a ABC store 👍 But I’m interested in , how you got to Hanauma Bay ? Reading about the changes , you now have to reserve a place by their web site to visit and no taxis or tour operators are aloud to take you.
I took an uber to and from. And yup, you'll have to reserve a spot on their website. I woke up early right as they opened spots (they open spots 2 days prior) and booked. Everything's usually booked out within 5 minutes so you have to be quick. It's definitely well worth it, even if a bit troublesome.
Love your video! Very informative and detail for visitor to Hawaii. I have a Quick question (I hope you don’t mind): how did you travel from the hotel/resident to all these places? Like did you walk, take buses or rent a car? I’m going soon and wanted to know what’s the easiest way to travel around! Thank you in advance!!
Renting a car is the easiest way, but neither of us drive. We walked if it was close enough, and planned our trip around a set location each day to reduce the number of ubers we'd need to call.
REALLY?!...$30 for loco Moco?! U got hosed! Right up the road from WKK is Rainbow Drive-in/St. Louis Drive-in. Around PCC, there's is local favorite Papa Ole's Kitchen. For $30, all 3 will offer better $$$$/flavor value. Papa Ole's offers 3 patties/eggs Drowning in brown gravy! No Way are you leaving that place, feeling Short Changed! FYI...ALL of the villages @ PCC are operated by workers from that particular island group & ALL are LDS students at BYU-Hawaii.
I'll definitely have to try Rainbow Drive In next time! Heard great things about it / wanted to go, but Aloha Table was just a bit more conv for us since we had no car. It was also $30 for the entire meal for two people!

Not trying to be rude but it's so interesting that it seems east coast Asians don't cross cultures as much as west coast Asians do--just something I am guessing based on your pronunciation of some of these words and other similar Asian RUclipsrs I've seen visiting hawaii.
Fat noodles are my favorite, from udon to chow fun, i rate these noodles far above other Asian style of noodles to eat and enjoy. My home State of Hawai'i is okay. Food is unsurpassed, making a living sucks

Question. How can you get the bus if you going to Polynesian culture? Thank you🙏🏻😊.
They come pick you up and tell you the time and place (usually from your hotel)

Hi, I am going to Hawaii in April and trying to plan my trip. Which foods do you recommend that aren’t seafood? Lol I just can’t eat that.

Did you notice that the farther you went from Waikiki the cheaper the food? So much good food here.
I'm sure! Wish I got to venture further out, but we didn't have a car so mostly ate within walking distance of our resort
As I tell most visiting mainland friends...If you stay in/around WKK/HNL area, you Will pay WKK/HNL $$$$...Things that make you go...WTF?!-smh
Make sure you go to a good restaurant that serves saimin and won ton min and barbecue sticks.

Hilton Hawaiian Village
did you buy tickets for the Polynesian cultural and hiking trips or did you just go?
Bought tickets prior
20 years ago that Udon place used to be a Jack n the Box. Really ghetto one too lol
How it's changed!
Great video, how did you travel back with the Portuguese donuts to New York?
Thanks! Hand carried them back on the plane
