- In this video, I talk about living in Germany vs Spain and what I think of Germany 6 months after moving here. Honestly, moving to Germany as an adult expat has been quite difficult, and I'm still settling down in the country. It's a long process, but I'm getting there! :)

It depends on the area of Spain, for example the climate of northern Spain is rainy on the coast and cold in the mountains, so many times in winter the northern coast of Spain is isolated from the rest of the country due to the snow in the Cantabrian mountains.
I agree with you! We are in North Germany 2.5 years now and we have learned to accept the Culturally Different way of speaking. It still feels rude but we have to go remind ourselves that it's a different culture. The weather has been especially depressing this winter. Good luck!! ❤

@@polina-kova94 Sorry to disappoint you... When you live in the North, Hamburg, it's unbelievably bad and changing hourly. You always have to be prepared for EVERYTHING. Umbrella, Sunglasses, different Shoes, different jackets. It's exhausting.
2021 and 2022 so far have been the worst ever.
But!!!! it's always un invierno largo... As a Russian you can maybe deal with it better. I'm half Turkish and it kills me. All dark and cloudy. Always raining. For months. 7 - 8 months per year is very bad weather in Germany.

Spain is so diverse culturally, geographically and climate-wise that it really makes no sense to talk about Spain when making comparisons. Germany is not that diverse, not even close.

All countries have pros and cons, and it depends on your preferences.
For me the heat is something I can stand, but cold... I prefer not to have to do with it. Spanish winters can be cold too and I don't like those days.
As for food, as a Spaniard, I didn't find German food particularly bad when I lived there. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad either. But yes, I prefer my country's food :-) But that's normal. I'm used to our dishes, flavours and such.
I hope you have a good time in Germany. You'll see things will look different after April.
Maybe the food depends on how big is the city, I live in a small town and basically 90% of restaurants offer schnitzel, sausages and Knodel. That's all 😁 I prefer Spanish food above German or Russian 😍

I do not miss spanish food, as we have a large spanish community here. I just go to a spanish restaurant.
German summer is awesome, I love it! :) Where I live there is a couple of spanish restaurants, but they are not even close to actual spanish restaurants, unfortunately, still missing the food a lot 🙃

How I understand you..I'm Polish and I have been living in Malta for 8 years, and sometimes I'm tired of the party island mentality, going nearly every second day to bars and basically living outside. I am more like you, I prefer to stay indoors and I feel like I'm boring a bit. I think the German life style would suit me better but I'm just afraid to make the move.
Oh, I feel you! I also felt like I'm "boring" compared to others in Spain. But guess, what now that I'm in Germany, sometimes I feel like Germany is boring 🙃🙈 I think there is definitely things we can do better in whatever situation we are in (like I need to find more hobbies and indoor activities in Germany to have a more interesting life). But for you maybe indeed a "calmer" and colder country would be better. Moving is scary though, I understand completely. But sometimes it's really worth it!

@@polina-kova94 It isn´t. "Small talk" is a simple way to acknowledge the mere existence of another human being, by interacting with them with words. Plenty of friendships and marriages have originated through it, which is something the average stiff German considers unnatural, somehow...
As a matter or fact, one the biggest culture shocks Latin American people have when they come to Spain, is that Spaniards, compared to them, are rude, non-chatty. For many of them, we are the "Germans" of all the Spanish speaking countries in the world.... :D And as a Spaniard, I agree that´s true, for the vast majority of the country. Go spend a month in Cuba, Mexico or Argentina, to name a few, and you´ll see we are indeed "Germans" with better weather, compared to them.

Actually, you feel the same as Sissi, the bavarian princess. She stayed some month in England and wrote to her mother in Munich: The english wheather makes my soul sick. I miss the sunny, snowy winters in Bavaria.
Yes, we used to have better winters in Germany and I remember from my childhood to have snow from November to March. I could image it is the same in northern Russia.
Wow really? I would love to have snowy winter here, but this is my first year and it hasn't been snow at all, at least not where I live 🙂
6:19 I am originally from slovakia, lived in Canada, Uk, Kuwait, Mexico, Japan now in Spain and after 10 years in Spain i feel that i never find home here, people are not cold but very lazy and their standard of work is lets say lower then anywhere in Europe ( Greece excluded),also working with Spanish people is .........well you end up to do all the work n because you are serious about your job ,you become outsider ,because everyone can see their laziness. When i worked when with German people i was extremely happy n it was real pleasure.

Man merkt, du bist noch nicht mit Deutschland vertraut. Nach Bayern zieht man wegen der Landschaft, nicht wegen der Leute. Die Bayern sind im Norden und Westen nicht sehr beliebt. Aber auch mit den Sachsen ist es nicht besser.. Wo du wohnst ist Franken, eigentlich nicht typisch bayerisch. Auch wenn Karl der Große in Reismühl bei Gauting im Münchner Süden geboren ist, ist er kein Bayer, sondern ein Franke, der im Norden bei Aachen residierte. Aber auch Frankreich ist woanders. Du wirst dich noch an sehr viele Mentalitäten und an grosse klimatische Unterschiede gewöhnen müssen. In Berlin ist das Wetter sehr ausgeglichen, in Freiburg sehr viel wärmer. Auf dem Brocken extrem windig. An der Mosel ist kein Schnee, in der Eifel Hochwasser. In Schleswig Holstein kommen manchmal die Wolken im D-Zug Tempo und der Regen ist manchmal waagerecht unterwegs.. Da brauchst du dann einen Ostfriesen-Nerz. Bei mir sind auf 6 km 3 Klimazonen und über 700 Höhenmeter. Von grüner Landschaft bis 0,5 m Schnee wird dir alles geboten. Der niederbayerische Dialekt ist anders wie der oberbayerische Dialekt. Die Münchner sind im Umland unbeliebt und reden nach der Schrift., meistens. Wenn ein Kollege im Dialekt aus Tegernsee etwas fragte antwortete der andere Kollege auf Plattdeutsch um ihn zu ärgern. Willkommen in Deutschland. Du wirst das Land erkunden müssen, Bayern ist nicht Deutschland und nicht deutsche Kultur. Mehr als 75 % von Deutschland sind anders.
Kleiner Nachtrag: Das ist keine Kritik an deinem Empfinden. Sei neugierig auf das was kommt und setze dich nicht unter Druck gleich perfekt Deutsch oder Deutschland zu verstehen. Wenn du glaubst endlich alles in deutsch zu verstehen, dann fahre in die Schweiz, ins Waldviertel, nach Weisswasser, nach Föhr oder Luxemburg und rede mit Einheimischen. Du wirst die Ohren anlegen und nur Bahnhof verstehen. Zum Trost, den Anderen geht es meist auch so. Wenn meine Frau Dialekt spricht wird es schwer mit der verstehen. Du brauchst eventuell einen guten Dolmetscher. :-)
Oh yeah. There are many people in Frankfurt who have to work there for a few years for career reasons. You can usually find them dead drunk in pubs late at night on weekdays. If the airport were to be closed on a Friday, they would jump out the window.
