Great video! This is exactly what I need to improve my form and keep up my strength. Where I live, it's just too hot right now to go outside and practice with my bow. Your videos are very helpful and informative. Thanks for being there to help this old dog (I'm 53) learn the ins and outs of recurve archery. I just bought one off of Amazon.
Hi, David. I've used one of the Bow Trainers for years and really like it. For me at least, the fact that it resembles a bow (instead of a slingshot) is a benefit. And, there's no question that it helps me develop-and maintain-draw strength. I'm glad you reviewed it. Best, Chris
If that's something you're looking for, sure. Archery doesn't make you that lopsided though, unless it is literally the only thing you do in your life.
This looks like a great training tool. I am going to look into getting this as I may be entering into a situation where I won't be able to shoot as often as I like. Thank you for the review.
I noticed a slight typo in your title when going to research the price. As listed on Lancaster archery supply: Prairie Innovators Bow Trainer™ Training Device. I just copied that directly from the website. I really enjoy your videos! stay awesome, bro.
I love your videos, and you inspired me to buy one of these trainers.lol. One question though: The red band is used during the “strength” training phase, and is intended for only a partial draw to simulate max resistance on a compound bow that has letoff. Since we use recurves with no letoff, wouldn’t we be better served by a combination of black bands (with the same draw resistance) drawn to full length? In your vid example I believe you’d be using a full draw of bands 1 and 2 coupled together...?
I like to take one of these when I go for a walk near home, stopping at points to do a rep. It gets me out in the air, gets some exercise for the legs as well, and has far fewer issues than taking a bow.
I just received my Bow Trainer today. In my testing, the rubber cords behave quite linearly even at extreme draw distances, and each one is capable of being drawn to 34", and probably even beyond, without deviating from linear behavior, even including the short red cord. The published chart of draw force for the cord combinations goes up to 32" of draw. By my estimation, pulling all four cords simultaneously to a draw length of 34" should result in about 138 lbf of draw weight, enough to simulate all but the very heaviest of Asiatic warbows, which fewer than 5% of Asiatic warriors would have been able to draw.
Just use a simple Thera-Band :) I also got a red one and I have seen a lot of people using one for competition-preparation. Never had any problems with breaking it. Btw., a Thera-Band will probably touch your forearm rather than a bow string as it swerves more. But due to the fact that the energy is allocated on a very broad strap, it doesn't really hurt, when hitting yourself. Or you simply use your arm protection right away. You will barely notice it then. And besides that: I think, this option is way cheaper than one of those "professional" training sticks or straps regarding the initial cost. And of course: if it should break (it won't, though), you can replace it budget-friendly. In case, one of those straps on a professional training stick/strap breaks, you have to buy a completely new one. The price tag of the Bow Trainer is at 49,99€ on amazon for the time being. Good luck!
Basically, yes. Getting the tension line right using a recurve will give the archer some advantages when switching over to compound. Compound-exclusive shooters often have a harder time switching to recurve because they can become too dependent on the bow's let-off.
NUSensei I use both and realized that I was anchoring with my right shoulder muscle with using a compound bow. I extended the draw length and realized how much easier it is to use back tension. I haven't tried this technique with my recurve bow, but this technique seem like it can be applied to both. Thanks for reassuring the answer.
Today, I used the same method with my recurve bow. I found out that I engage back tension when I anchor subconsciously, but this thought process slows my draw cycle down which help my groupings on target.
Wouldn't it actually be better to go to the gym and do some rows? I know that you would not have the exact form as with a bow, but if your goal is to build strength it might not matter that much.
If youre going to do that cam haynes kettlebell workout is a good one. I like the trainer (made a homemade one too with more resistance and nocks as well as molded grip) as a warm up at home before i start my day also do a light kettlebell workout. I think there’s something to actually resistance using your bow form though
Sandra I thought the same but it’s actually better than my homemade one. I use it a few times a week as a morning workout to start my day the combinations are the only thing id say makes it work it. Basically its like shooting without having to constantly adjust your poundage or swap bows
Seems from the chart that there is a huge available draw weights gap in the middle. For my draw length of 28inch I can go for 28 pounds with Band3 and then straight to 42 pounds with Band1+2. There is no way this trainer can help me go through the 30s up to that 42 pound weight :/ Am I missing something?
To get a first comment you need to have notifications on, and people having notifications on is good for the youtuber as viewers watch his videos faster
Frankly, there's no point in commenting "First". The creator can already see views live through the analytics and we can already expect a certain number of viewers on release. If anything, it's an annoyance because the creator gets a false comment notification. Appreciate the support, but there's literally no justification for a "First!" comment. Something as simple as adding a "Thank you" or "Good work!" adds a bit more value if you want to be first.
For the traditional guys training to draw heavy medieval warbows of the 100+ lbf variety. Check out Joe Gibbs' RUclips channel. If not for this subculture of archery, there would be no reason for a trainer any heavier than 70 lbf, the upper limit of modern high-end bows.

I would like to see you review the Accubow. I am thinking about buying one and all of the information I find seems to be pretty positive.
would you recommend swapping arms (pulling back both as a left & right hander ) in order to gain muscle/strength symmetry.
If that's something you're looking for, sure. Archery doesn't make you that lopsided though, unless it is literally the only thing you do in your life.
Here from Reddit! Amazing way to gain momentum on older videos btw.

Thanks, that one slipped through.

I would claim that it _is_ a competition - but I'm competing against myself from yesterday, not another person.
Very informative ; thank you for doing these videos !
would you say the draw length could get back up to 34"? I'm think of getting one of these to train asiatic war bow shooting

Arg, they're harder to buy than I thought.
Do you deathgrip it or still try to hold it like another recurve bow?
Neither. Just hold it. You're training your back muscles, not your form.
NUSensei thank you
could you do a review of the crosman bows
Does anyone know where these are sold in Britain?
Hi, i was just wondering if the bow trainer can be dry fired to mimic the effect of a real bow !
That would not be a good idea. It wasn't designed to be dry-fired.
oh what a shame !!
can you perhaps recommend something or maybe even review something that can be dry fired.
thank you !!
you can use the KSL shot trainer. There's no follow through when using it though.
Just use a simple Thera-Band :)

Why would you even want to dry fire a bow?
Do you use back tension with recurve bow as almost the same as a compound bow technique?

Can you review accubow?
Could the bands be replaced if need be?
Yes.
What's the max. draw length of this trainer?
Frank Leipner probably as long as you can pull..its rubber tubes
The manual lists up to 32 inches but I assume it would hold up to a bit more
Where can I get one?
Never mind, I found one at Lancaster Archery.
Yeah, it's easy to find. I got mine from Lancaster as well.
This seems very easy to DIY
Māris Irša I disagree; you could make something like it with PVC and a variety of stretch bands, but it appears worth the $40 to me.
Nice

That would be a very good exercise, if that option was available.

It's to expensive for a stick with a couple of rubber bands...
But it's cool idea nonetheless.

Just don’t pull to full draw: it’s a trainer, incremental increases are the entire idea
