Why The STEAM DECK Is IMPORTANT For The Future Of Handhelds…

It has officially been more than 2 years since the Steam Deck's release, and needless to say - it has changed the perspective of a lot of PC gaming enthusiasts. Even console gamers can say, that the Steam Deck is pretty much the perfect handheld for almost everyone!
Not only does the this mile stone of a handheld dress to impress, but it is the DEFINITIVE Gold Standard for any future handheld pc to be released in the future.
....Let's talk about why the Steam Deck is SO IMPORTANT.

The most important aspect of PC Handhelds is the current amount of minedshare. The actual userbase is still quite small. Ask folks about VR and people call it niche, yet the VR industry has a userbase that's no less than 10x that of PC gaming handhelds. I think PC gaming handhelds will grow as the general gaming community grows older, who seem to benefit most from playing away from a TV or desk.

I think one benefit that PC handhelds have is the Nintendo switch. It's in the public eye already so the idea of a portable gaming system isn't that far-fetched and some people might Nintendo switch and definitely feel like it's lacking wanting something more powerful something more different. That's where The steam deck and all the others will come into play.

I like your take. I'm a big fan of the Steam Deck and have no desire for any other handheld in the market. I honestly haven't touched my PS4, Switch, or even my main gaming PC that is more powerful than the Deck since I got the OLED. It's easily my favorite piece of tech and gaming device of all time, and I look forward to the next iteration of it whenever Valve thinks it's the right time, but until then, I'll continue enjoying it.
