Thank you that help me alot. This is probably the most detailed review on that device i've found on RUclips. We need more focused reviewers on youtube of your kind!
Very helpful review and guidance. I, too, lost the windscreen foam using it the first time recording for my cycling VLOG. I have now added just a tiny drop of superglue and that holds the foam firmly.
Another video pointed out that formatting the micro SD card using the Editor application from Zoom eliminates the delay when pressing REC and also shortens the boot time. It worked for me. The formatting process takes less than a minute.
😂 whispering to shouting. That was so funny. I also learned when the mobile app is open record only works on app. I was trying to record using f2 red button. Great info
Good info, I didn’t realize that the f2 physical button would not start recording while using the BT app as I have not been using the app as much as I thought I would.
Since you can prove the popping sound as you have recorded it you can send your f2 back and get a replacement, this is a known issue when the recorder was just released, zoom has fixed this issue now. Great tip about double pressing the record button which turns the device off again eventually, didn't know about that. I also have the F2-BT, what does worry me is how cheap it is build, the battery door comes off real easy and the sd card door looks like it's a matter of time before it will break off. Also amazed at what pricepoint they are selling it but they certainly had to cut costs on build and quality controll.
Great video! I really like the 32 bit float on the Zoom F2. It can perfectly handle high SPL and dynamic sound from engine. With minor touch in post processing, the audio can be synced to the video and it does the job very well. The only cons is quality of the lav mic. I use deity w lav pro to improve the clarity.
hey, great video!thanks! I had found some problems while using the f2 BT. I used it for recording the sound of my moto-vlog. However, I still faced to clipping problem. I can edit the audio file(such as pulling it down, turning the db lower), but it didn’t save the whole sound. The edge of the sound wave was cut. My friend bought a same f2 BT, and used for moto-vlogging as well, and he got the same problem! So, I’m wondering if that’s our problems of setting or the problem of this device? Because the problems we’ve got seem like not a real 32 bit float recorder. (Ps, we tried different microphones, and the motorcycles were not super super loud, so we don’t think the volume went over the limit of the microphones. One of the microphones is the Rode videomicro, and the maximum spl is 140 db. We are pretty sure the motorcycles’ volume is lower than 140db) What do you think about our situation? Thanks man!
32 bit float audio is supposed to provide 770db more headroom than 24bit. (www.sounddevices.com/32-bit-float-files-explained/). The audio should normally not clip and that’s why the zoom F2 only has the REC button (no gain adjustment). The video editor software has to be compatible with 32 bit float format (I use DaVinci Resolve). If you have a compatible video editor software, it could be the unit itself and I would contact Zoom customer service.
@@loriskim thanks for your reply man! I think the f2 product is not performed as good as f6 about the 32 bit float. I contacted zoom but no one replied! Haha, anyways, thanks again!
This device almost seems too good to be true. I'm looking for an upgrade from my DR-10L because I want to get 32-bit, but it seems these are currently the ONLY portable recorder pack with 32-bit recording, that's not a large wireless system? Price isn't as much of an issue, but I can't switch to a wireless system for many reasons.
I only have one unit. When launching the app (on an iPhone), it searches for nearby units and then you select the one to connect to (in my case, there is always only one choice). I doubt that you can connect both units simultaneously on 1 phone but I can't say for sure. A workaround would be to use multiple devices that can run the app (phones and/or ipads) but not the most practical.
The recorder itself should be fine but you would need to pair it with a shotgun mic or omnidirectional mic (with a 3.5mm Jack plug). The included Lavalier mic would not work well for field recording. I have used the F2 only for speech recording. For ambiance recording, I use the Zoom H1.
The delay on recording/LED indicator was the worst. When you are 100% sure you hit the REC button and still ends up with a videoclip only lasting a few seconds. 🤬
@@loriskim That's actually a huge set back, And should easily been able to fix with firmware update. Many other recorders and even the recorder released before the zoom F2. The Zoom F6 has an actual PRE RECORD function. From around 1-6 seconds pre recording from the time of pressing record.
"Google translate : Hi, how is the quality of the sound being recorded?" I found the sound quality to be very good. I have only used it with a Lavalier microphone so I don't know how it would be with a shotgun mic for example but you need to keep in mind that the F2 only records mono. One item to note is that the 32bit float audio clip seems to sometimes be incorrectly flagged as clipping (in the red zone) by my video editing software if I increase the volume but the sound is just fine during playback.

That’s a good idea. It is the only lavalier mic (out of the 6 that I have) whose foam just falls off.

Are you sure you didn't exceed the maximum Sound Pressure Level (SPL) of your lavalier mic? The LMF-2 has max of 115dB.
