      @@bryanfongo327 Surprisingly enough, despite the sirens and lights, sometimes people simply don’t notice an ambulance until it is right behind them and then they have no room to move over. He has a easy to weave in between lanes and motion the cars over to give the ambulance driver plenty of room to ride the middle. It might seem so small and insignificant but I promise you some times those seconds saved are the difference between life and death.

      true, true. Every second less in traffic means a second more for the patient, and a second earlier availability of emergency responders for other patients down the line. Even if we give one second more each, this will be substantial.
      So lets us do our part :)

    • @ldmedicity
      @ldmedicity 3 года назад +227

      @@Justineexy here's the problem with untrained assumptions. If the motorcycle gets in a wreck it becomes and MCI (mass casualty incident) exceeding my supply capability. I have a duty to act depending on circumstance. Risking the current patient being transported to the hospital as well as the motorcyclist. How much are you willing to risk. 1 patient getting all the attention being actively transported? Or 2, with pending ambulance responses and emergency staff (let alone the blocked traffic which in itself becomes a safety risk).
      The problem isn't my training. The problem is the perception that your knowledge supercedes a hundred years of emergency response development and protocol guidelines.
      Hope this helps and stay safe out there

    This is what type of motorcycle drivers we want
    Or maybe a police motorcycle escort for the ambulance in traffic

    • @REVOLUTIONS51
      @REVOLUTIONS51 4 года назад +43

      Sometimes it does happen, I'm a paramedic in Italy and in 3 different occasions we had the emergency operation center contacting the police and having a randevouz planned in the stretch of blocked road (it was known that it was blocked for the crash we were on, but it still was the fastest way). Like in this video they reached us in traffic and got in front. The third time it was a transfer of a critical patient from one 'first aid center' to a central hospital, we had the police waiting for us as we exited the building, two motorcycle, they were constantly jumping ahead of us to block intersection so we wouldn't have to slow down (usually even if on emergency on a red light you slow down to make sure they see you and stop)

    • @zeicanofficial
      @zeicanofficial 4 года назад +14

      @@REVOLUTIONS51 Since you're a paramedic, do you think it's a good idea for the public to help clear traffic for ambulances? If it is, I'll keep that in mind if I happen to see a similar situation.

    • @REVOLUTIONS51
      @REVOLUTIONS51 4 года назад +38

      @@zeicanofficial it certainly isn't effective as a bike cop with lights and sirens on, but if the situation is really bad like here it can help. Be aware though that technically to weave between cars it's against the street code, at least where I live in Italy. And be super careful near exit ramps and various intersection because the last thing you want is to push everybody to create a corridor going straight only to find out the ambulance needed to turn and now it's even more difficult than before.
      The point would be to make people move apart, so just riding between cars is not that effective, if you are confident enough and can reach for the high visibility vest or similar and you can wave it people will likely associate it with the siren and react more quickly and better. But it's not the safest thing to do, so again, be super careful as you certainly do not want to cause another emergency.

    • @zeicanofficial
      @zeicanofficial 4 года назад +7

      @@REVOLUTIONS51 Alright, thank you! I will look into it more though for my country. Although I may not be brave enough to do that on a highway or anything I'll see how it is in city traffic. Again, thank you. And keep up the good work for Italy, you are helping more than you may realize.

    Fucking. Hero. This video makes me wish I had a bike so I could do things like this. Especially in my town where people tend to actively try to make nuisances of themselves on the road. Not saying that they'd explicitly block an ambulance... but the totally would, and then get mad at people doing the same thing when they are the victim! It was really nice to see motorists actively doing as you asked, trying to create as much room as they could and clear lanes, or stopping for awhile to let the ambulance squeeze in.

      @yedow4 4 года назад +21

      If everyone paid enough attention and reacted, the biker wouldn't have made any difference, but unfortunately it is not uncommon in France (maybe/probably other places but I wouldn't know) and especially in parisian traffic to see people react to emergency services very late (like only when the ambulance is the next vehicle behind them and not before) or in a lazy way, just barely getting to the side.
      Of course most people do react appropriately and the biker didn't change anything for them, but you can spot at a few moments that some people did react to him, and getting these few people to react is enough to allow the ambulance a smoother and faster ride overall

    • @shaf_fled
      @shaf_fled 4 года назад +27

      The rider helped in directing the traffic away and clearing a path for the ambulance. Drivers may only be able to hear the ambulance in congestion and, without coordination, might just swerve into the path of the ambulance in an attempt to get out of the way. Especially when he stopped traffic to clear a path for the ambulance when only 1 lane was clear, no siren could possibly inform the driver that they needed to stop dead in the lane.

    • @thebustosfamily
      @thebustosfamily 4 года назад +8

      Exactly what I thought biker is passing through in between lane were the ambulance doesn't fix and not really doing anything. Maybe and just maybe when the biker passed by the car driver it made them look in the general direction and then saw the lights of the ambulance and then got out of way. But just maybe..

      @@finecanine376 watch the video again - notice how he was driving down the striped line the whole time; encroaching into the lanes of the vehicles who were supposed to get out of the way of the ambulance, but because of his well intentioned but ultimately HORRIBLE decision to "escort" the ambulance, those people were locked into their lanes. It happens for the whole video - just open your eyes and imagine being one of those drivers _trying_ to move for the ambulance but not being able to. Thousands of them. Also, he was gunning it and overtaking the traffic at multiple points - also quite dangerous since they hear the siren and may suddenly change lanes to avoid it (but may miss the non-police motorcycle driving like a madman right in their lane).
      This guy risked hundreds if not thousands of lives - not worth it to _try_ and help one, not on any level. There's a reason this sort of behavior would be a whole list of misdemeanors and possibly a few felonies in the USA - it's one thing to be a Good Samaritan and another thing altogether to pretend you're the Road Warrior.

    I work in a hospital and this act of kindness means the world to medical professionals despite being risky weaving through traffic. The paramedics are one of the most important crews for medical work, and not enough people react fast enough to their sirens. If you hear a siren, check your mirrors and please get over accordingly to let them pass. If you like to blast music while driving, please check your mirrors frequently to make sure there aren't flashing lights coming your direction. If the sirens/lights are on, this means there IS an emergency and they have to get to their destination as quickly and safely as possible. Those patients need to get to those of us waiting at hospitals to continue life-saving treatment. So please get over as much as you can - or even stop if possible - to allow the ambulances through. You just might be the few seconds they need to save a life.
