Lyrics:
1. "Anxious Mo-Fo" (D. Boon, Mike Watt) -- 1:19
serious as a heart attack
makes me feel this way
no device to measure
no words can define
I mean what I'm trying to say is how can I express -- let alone possess?
serious as a heart attack
makes me feel this way
2. "Theatre Is the Life of You" (Boon, Watt) -- 1:30
as the revolution cries
"the time is near!"
i could feel my bones
i could see with my eyes
can't avoid it
can't agree
as the revolution cries
"the time is near!"
senses loose in knots
my logic is my style
can't avoid it
must make a stand
3. "Viet Nam" (Boon) -- 1:27
let's say i got a number
that number's fifty thousand
that's ten percent
of five hundred thousand
oh here we are
in french indochina
executive order
congressional decision
the working masses
are manipulated
was this our policy?
ten long years
not one domino shall fall
4. "Cohesion" (Boon) -- 1:55
beauteous instrumental
5. "It's Expected I'm Gone" (Watt) -- 2:04
I don't want to hurt
see my position was here
I mean
as it was
I was
so, this led to the downfall of man
you make
seconds
feel like
hours
I make
certain
my head
is separate from
my body
no hope?
see, that gives me guts
big fucking shit!
right now,
man
6. "#1 Hit Song" (Boon, George Hurley) -- 1:47
On the back of a winged horse,
Through the sky of pearly grey.
Love is leaf-like.
You and me, baby.
Twinkle, Twinkle,
Blah, blah, blah
E.
T.
C.
7. "Two Beads at the End" (Boon, Hurley) -- 1:52
caught by a camera taken at shutter speed my neck's in a knot (two beads at the end) bolt cutters close
my head rolls again trapped in your snare, voices fly at me
snap like a tiger strikes like a snake- feel like a poker in someone's fireplace
8. "Do You Want New Wave or Do You Want the Truth?" (Watt) -- 1:49
a word war
will set off the keg
my words are war!
should a word have two meanings?
what the fuck for?
should words serve the truth?
I stand for language
I speak for truth
I shout for history
I am a cess-pool
for all the shit
to run down in...
9. "Don't Look Now" (John Fogerty) -- 1:46
Who will take the coal from the mine?
Who will take the salt from the earth?
Who'll take a leaf and grow it to a tree?
Don't look now, it ain't you or me.
Who will work the field with his hands?
Who will put his back to the plough?
Who'll take the mountain and give it to the sea?
Don't look now, it ain't you or me.
Don't look now, someone's done your starvin';
Don't look now, someone's done your prayin'
Who will make the shoes for your feet?
Who will make the clothes that you wear?
Who'll take the promise that you don't have to keep?
Don't look now, it ain't you or me.
10. "Shit From an Old Notebook" (Boon, Watt) -- 1:35
let the products sell themselves
fuck advertising commercial psychology
psychological methods to sell should be destroyed
because of their own blind involvement
in their own conditioned minds
the unit bonded together
morals ideals awareness progress
let yourself be heard
11. "Nature Without Man" (Chuck Dukowski, Boon) -- 1:45
the boundary, the border of right and wrong the tariff is self the freedom feeling the criminal
the pied piper, the heart and mind
the pied piper, the heart and mind
nature without man
nature without man
12. "One Reporter's Opinion" (Watt) -- 1:50
what can be romantic to mike watt?
he's only a skeleton
his body is a series of points
with no height, length, or width
in his joints he feels life
his strongest connection
beteen yelling and sleep
pain is the toughest riddle
he's chalk
he's a dartboard
his sex is disease
he's a stop sign
There are a 1,000 little gems in this album, and it never gets old.
Cohension gets me every time--it's like the band purposely takes a moment to let you catch a glimpse at the intricacies and undiscovered depths behind their freewheeling. The world was robbed the day D. Boon died.
RIP big man.
*Murdered
In my opinion one of the 80,s best record, shoulder to shoulder with Raw Power in 70,s and Electric Ladyland in 60,s
Funny, if I was taking just five albums with me on a space journey, DN and EL would be the first two albums that I would pick. One or two by Zep...prob. 1 & 3. Would have to think about the 5th.
this is free rock at the highest level
It's one of the top most influential albums ever made, if you ask me.
People enjoy it lots... But.. Led Zeppelin's still far more influential.. Beatles.. ya know, sadly, not the Who, or like Iggy stooge. I mean we wish these things...
This is awesome only on RUclips have I found all the albums that I owned, back in the days as a teen. minutemen, husker du, cramps, black flag, meat puppets, love tractor, I almost forgot about them over the years. I think double nickels had to be one of the biggest influences on my growth as a well rounded musician. The Zapp band too. Thank-you youtubers.
Kenneth Trayer Not a single Replacements album in there? Damn shame.
best record ever
Could be
it's good to see all these fresh comments praising this phenomenal band. These guys were way ahead of their time and defy categorization as simply "punk" or "electric folk" or whatever. I can only imagine what D Boon and crew would have done had he not died so young....
By far the best of the record's four sides.
Probably the band I respect most.
Cohesion is an awesome song.
If there is another musical work in the entire Rock era that contained more great ideas per minute, I don't know what it is.
this is some groovy shit
I remember seeing the minutemen, rem, and Jason and the scorchers at FOX ATL. 1984-85. The days before it all became a freakshow....ahhh memories.
So original .. it's one of those band that broke the mold when D died.
Fine as the White Album. So many stories, such cool memories.
BEST ALBUM of all time (up there Zappa's BONGO FURY; Beefheart's LICK MY DECALS OFF, BABY (not TMR!); King Crimson's - LARKS TONGUE IN ASPIC; Magma's WURDAH ITAH and Charles Mingus' AH UM) --> The sheer variety, virtuosity and weird logic simply raise this from outta nowhere into an overwhelming ZEITGEIST EVERYWHERE!!! ...get it in ya, newbs !
Many thank you's for making me a new fan of Minutemen, by coincidence... gosh that's good!
This album is a fucking killer. Thanks a million.
Thanks for posting the lyrics.
cohesion
great presentation
This came out on SST records about the same time as Zen Arcade by Husker Du. A lot of creativity. Wish I had held onto my record collection I had all of this stuff on vinyl
George Bethos I would have killed a man if you had held on to any of the original Sire/Twin Tone releases from The Replacements.
Take a bass lesson boys and girls...
COHESION makes me fucking sad -- and happy for my life too.
Writing a 24-hour summer vintage period screenplay and this song must close it out to end credits and -- BLACK.
First video I spotted that has full album lyrics in the description - I've been thinking about that idea for a while
this is the best side
The Great American Encyclopeadia Of Punk Music
Hello again ol Minutemen
love it
sounds like television + grateful dead
they sound nothing like either of those bands? tf?
James Oakes i can definitely hear traces of television
Fucking love the drum mix
Listened to this until I went to sleep and had the craziest dream
1. It's side A
2. 10.Shit From an Old Notebook start here - 15:37
This shit is straight fucking fire.
#1 hit song reminds of "seasons of the witch" by donavan.
yeah
This is the schitt
my old CIA code-name was Original Vinyl
and this is only the first side
D.Boon played guitar.
love the shert.
thank you as fucking much as you can handle best punk album ever
This is a great album to read doujinshi to.
Hello. Can you upload Side Mike, from Double Nickels on the Dime’s vinyl version?
Thanks!
I was told there would be hardcore punk. Not a bad record, though
tschevaptschitschy this is as punk as it gets. Punk is going against the norms and this goes against punk norms
Hardcore punks of their day were tour mates. Respect all 'round...
what the heck happened to Side Mike?
SERIOUSASAHEARTATTACK
I can't choose which one, the original release or 1989 release......
Is this punk???
Really is kind of prog-punk ha,ha!
They must have heard lots of Captain Beefhart.
Great it´s not a "kid kind of" 30 minutes album.
+robertochiang54 there's more...and yes they were fond of beefheart!
their love of James Blood Ulmer is also heavily prevalent.
The girls talking in Don't Look Now just piss me off. Don't talk when the band is playing.
In yer face music. . . get all up in that grill
Mr Uncommon listens to one of the best albums of all time and gets upset about nothing. Dude you're totally missing the point. Its a gig not church.
