The smaller back fin has been around for the last 20 years or so with AM fins. you don't need to buy a whole new set of fins. many experienced lighter surfers just have a smaller back fin for smaller days and a larger one for bigger days. I would have rathered you spoke more of the texture on top of the side fins, is it like Jamie Obrien fins that have a small channel on the side fin tips (whether you can actually notice it)?
I found his fins too stiff if you want to really free up surfers' you need to also talk about tuning the flex of the fin into the power of the wave and strength/ weight of the surfer as well as a template for factors high-performance fins for surfing. 👍
What's you favoriate fin template to ride?
@@tezf6883 john john medium are good but could use a bit more drive and hold for hollow waves so am is good for that
@fcs 30 years ago I was cutting the bottoms off the centers before glassing on! I felt the boards had the attributes Darren speaks of by reducing the drag. These days I run a twin mostly, with your side plugs set an inch back for proper feel, then pop in an accessory center in solid surf. Cheers🤙🏼

I'm just baffled by the evolution of the DHD fins... there's been so many: first there was fcs DHD -1, which was a larger set up. Then there was FCS DHD -2, which was on the medium size to cater the smaller surfers. Then there was DHD -3. This was in fact developed with Mick Fanning and ended up being rebranded and released as the MF-1.
Then FCS II came out and another DHD fin came out in performance glass (solid fiberglass) in medium and large sizes.
Then the same fin template was being made in performance core (RTM honeycomb) and with a new art design and colour way.
AND NOW this new fin. A whole new template and design.
Makes me wonder though: you have top notch shaper like AM which been championing the same winning fin template for decades now. No change there. When is DH gonna make up his mind about this one winning fin template 😆? Too many attempts by the looks of it.
Tho Looks like DH has nailed it with this template, could be better then the AM fin
