There is no such thing as a former Marine! Once you have earned the Title of United States Marine, you are a Marine for life. Thank You For Your Service!
I love watching you teach! I have been sewing for 50+ years, regalia making for about 25. They say when you stop learning, you are in for the long sleep. You really are an inspiration! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you Juaguin, I’ve made moccasins etc., for my Regalia and am currently working on another Regalia because my first one was lost in our move 😰 I like to watch other Natives work on theirs it’s quite enjoyable and educational I am Alaskan Native I am Tlingit from my Mother and Haida from my Father my Clan is; Raven, Woodworm, & Dog salmon my Brother is Chief here in Southeast Alaska 🥰 I’ll be watching more of your videos and others as well.In 1990! I got the privilege of dancing with Hopis etc., in Arizona at a gathering it was amazing seeing so many Tribes and their beautiful Regalia thank you for sharing your videos and passing your knowledge on 🥰😇
Beautiful work. Ive used a heavier Stock ( paper) to keep our "master" designs stiffer. Large plastic lids..cut into geometric designs...always last long, to retrace. For smaller geometric shapes. Also a drafting Triangle makes measuring faster @ accurate. PILAMAYA
Thank you so much for your videos. My family are Blackfoot of Siksika Tribe, but we were not raised on a reservation, nor did we go to a lot of powwows. We grew up in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest, and though we made our own jewelry, hair pieces, medicine bags, and blankets, we didnt get to learn all of the regalia that our Native brothers and sisters got to grow up with. This is wonderful for me to not only learn from, but teach my children what our family nearly lost via time away from our ancestors, tribe, and native people. Great Creator bless you. Also, I seen that you are currently working on season 3. Do you have a patreon account, so we can donate to it to keep your videos funded? Thanks! And keep up the good work!
Great Show & Information. My wife & son are Myaamia, she used to dance & we're looking forward to tiny tots w/ him in a yr or two. I've been learning the basics of hide & leatherwork & am interested in getting more decorative but not sure where to start. Am glad to see other men are interested in it as well, & fellow Veterans at that. Looking forward to watching the rest of the series. Great Work!!
This is a nice design to get started on for learning basic skills you need so you can progressively learn more techniques to create beautiful regalia !
Thank you Juaquin, for your videos if you dont already have a video on it can you make Grass dance regalia pleasee, im 6"5 no one has regalia in my size and i dont know how to start.

Not all of we native American's can get together so he has his right's to be on here like anyone. And he does talk history but you may have missed that
I actually like watching this video. It's actually very educational and actually easy to actually understand. I actually understood what was actually being shown on how to actually do it. Lol.
I just now found your channel and I am so very pleased with its content. I was wondering if you knew where I could purchase a pattern for a buckskin wedding dress, something very traditional and lots of fringes
I enjoy these videos, helps me with improving my own techniques. I am interested in making fans. Is there an episode that shows how to make fans? I'm a Northern Tradish.

I am White skinned but found out i am sioux native American. Can i still make a regalia and wear it? Dont want to be disrespectful. I have always wanted to make my own! I love native American culture!

I'm trying to get the materials to make my own fancy dancer regalia can you help me are point me to the right place I would like to start making my own colors for my bustle
I want a ribbon shirt,I want to respect all things Native American. I've had my DNA done and I have Native American blood in me, however I was adopted at birth and I don't know and can't get anymore information. I love a pow wow and I can do the intertrible pow wow dance. What can I do if anything to ware any Regalia without being disrespectful to or offending any tribe or any Native American traditions? All help will be greatly appreciated.
I mean, participating and wearing regalia, is not disrespectful, as long as you are not using it as costume, for attention, being directly disrespectful and are well educated. There is a fine line between cultural appropriation, and appreciation, and as long as you are embracing it and being respectful all should be fine. If you enjoy it, go for it
I am Irish, Scottish, and Cheyenne by blood, so I do understand where you are coming from with regards to wanting to honor your heritage without offending anyone. In all my years growing up going to Pow Wows, my observation and understanding is thus - If you are not a registered tribal member, you do not dance except in Inter-tribal dances or if you are openly invited to do so during specific songs. Competition dances are strictly for tribal members in full regalia. Those who are attending Pow Wows to celebrate their culture don't necessarily HAVE to wear regalia of any sort, some even dance in just their street clothes on inter-tribal songs. Those who do wear some regalia but are not dancing to compete often just wear a ribbon shirt, perhaps some jewelry, a choker, and sometimes moccasins in lieu of a full dance outfit. Women also wear or carry a shawl (as I do). If you have general cultural questions, you can often speak to some of the people attending. For rules specific to the Pow Wow you are attending, the MC will indicate someone who is specifically there on the floor to attend to issues, questions, etc while the MC directs which drum sings what type of song and at what time, as well as any ceremonies to be held during the Pow Wow. There are various sources for finding more information and gaining a better understanding of Pow Wow rules and etiquette, and each Pow Wow can and sometimes do have specific rules that others might not have, so check with the organizers for specific rules for that Pow Wow, some even give out information pamphlets for you to read when you attend. Below are two links to help get you started. opi.mt.gov/Portals/182/Page%20Files/Indian%20Education/Indian%20Education%20101/PowWows.pdf www.travelok.com/article_page/understandingthepowwow
I dont know how old you are, but if you are a "tribal baby", you can contact the b.i.a, they should have records of your birth parents (tribe). I believe it was in the '70s the i.c.w law came into effect that no tribal baby can be adopted to non tribal members. But like i said i dont know how old you are so i would start there. As far as powwows, i would go to a powwow and talk to an elder: most are always willing and wanting to share their knowledge. Ask them the questions you have face to face. Because not all answers on the internet are correct. Until then, i would urge you to check out powwows.com they have a section that tells all about what powwows are and powwow etiquette. Good luck to you
Thank you for these videos. They are very instructional. I love Native American art. I started playing a game while listening to your video. And started taking shots every time you said actually. I was drunk in 10 minutes. I actually don't think you need to say actually so much but actually I'm serious when I say, thank you for these videos.
I am making a Mans Ribbon shirt for powwow anything I need to know? I don't want to offend anyone by put on to many ribbon or picking the wrong color or putting the ribbon on wrong.
Freely Wheeling y'all feel free to tell me to shut up if I'm wrong) regalia is very personal - it is yours and your story to tell. While many people pick to focus on a color of the medicine wheel, there are plenty who don't do so. One of my friends, Wally, has almost entirely pink regalia. He chose pink to remember his mother, who died from cancer. There are also many dragonflies hiding on his regalia, because they remind him of the spirits of his ancestors.
Meredith French I'm learning to dance shawl! I'm really excited to make all my regalia. All the women's regalia styles are so lovely they take my breath away.
Perhaps this was his first video and he was nervous. Maybe you can make another one and post it on RUclips for others to criticize and pick out all the things you did or said wrong.
Thank you for taking the time to teach. many of us are in remote areas where we don't have elders who can teach us.

Could have been a very good video if I hadn't got tired of the word ACTUALLY. I lost count at 68 in the first few minutes.
Perhaps this was his first video and he was nervous. Maybe you can make another one and post it on RUclips for others to criticize and pick out all the things you did or said wrong.
enjoy watching you. have learned a few things. but you talk to much. get to the point. I have to mute you!
seriously? How disrespectful. You could have, and should have stopped at "learned a few things." smh
