    That's really cool and easy to get kids interested in planting and growing things.
    The weirdest thing I can remember coming in a can, was a dress. LOL
    Thank you for sharing.

    Searched RUclips for help with ours. First minute solved our problem, there was no plastic bit with instructions & seeds!!!! Might have to source some chilli seeds next time I’m at the shops!

    • @AtomicShrimp
      @AtomicShrimp  6 лет назад +11

      yeah, although oddly, mine had seeds inside the can too (perhaps almost as if they expect the plastic bottom to get misplaced). You can just save seeds from inside a fresh chilli - dry them a few days on a piece of paper before planting.

    or just buy one chilli pepper, get the seeds out
    and stick them "fresh" immediately in pots / soil
    1cm down, preferably with a plastic bag around it,
    like a tiny greenhouse,
    thats it, fresh seeds can germinate in about 3 or 4 days.
    if you can grow grass or dandelions , you can grow chillies.

  • @xedalpha1

    Makes sense they stash some in the soil. All seeds have a chance of failing. That just hedges your bets. How did this plant go by the way? Bought one for myself a week ago and sprouting already

    • @AtomicShrimp
      @AtomicShrimp  4 года назад +6

      It grew into a decent plant - somewhat set back by the fact I waited too long before potting on into a larger pot - it produced only a small number of average-looking and tasting fruits, but that might be due to my lack of care

    • @xedalpha1
      @xedalpha1 4 года назад +1

      @@AtomicShrimp gotcha. Hope they were at least a bit hot.

    • @xedalpha1
      @xedalpha1 4 года назад +1

      @Rybo Stain it took that long for my first ones to pop up. Others will likely follow

    • @xedalpha1
      @xedalpha1 4 года назад

      @Rybo Stain actually moved them before they sprouted but to a not much bigger pot .They still should sprout though. I'd preen them once it's clear which one is strongest or replant them if you wish as it could provide enough seedlings for multiple plants. Theyll likely all start pushing up in the next couple of weeks. Two more just sprouted for me today so there are likely seeds quite far down.

    • @xedalpha1
      @xedalpha1 4 года назад

      @Rybo Stain yeah they just grow in the direction opposite gravity until they feel sunlight and can start photosynthesis for energy or they run out of fuel in the seed and die. I'm quite new to growing things too lol

    I got one if these at Xmas. You say 2 months for flowers/fruit? Mine has been going 9 months, is 8 foot tall and no flowers or seeds. Mine has been on miracle grow, used filter coffee, and human poo.

    • @binface9
      @binface9 5 лет назад +3

      Cut it down to about 2-3 ft and stop feeding it until the flowers come. Once the flowers self-pollinate and the fruit grow, stop watering in order to ripen the chillies.

  • @raymurf7953

    • @Earthstar_Review
      @Earthstar_Review 3 года назад +1

      Yes, many cultivars can grow a meter tall and a meter wide - or more - when happy. Plants generally need as much on top as underground

    You really should show us how it turns out in the same video. I just watched you talk about a can of dirt. And put some water on some seeds. (Exciting, not) I love most of these videos but you really diddnt show us how good the product was. It’s like if you showed us a can of pickles or something and described them as best you could but then when you went to eat it the video just cuts out.

    • @AtomicShrimp
      @AtomicShrimp  4 года назад +4

      Whenever I do a video about something that develops over time, it's a balancing act between uploading now, and showing people what I have, or waiting a lot longer and showing people the end result - for example with pickled wild garlic, if I wait until it's ready to eat, it's too late for anyone watching to go out and pick their own.
      I guess I figured that the growing of a chilli plant was commonplace compared to the novelty of seeds and soil in a can.

    • @Rei-Rei

      To be fair, the majority of Ashens' video appear to be static shots of a sofa while someone eats (or pretends to eat. How would we even know?) something nasty off-camera. It's the opposite of engaging video to me, but he has a massive following.
