I was 7 when “Halloween” came out and managed to tape it off HBO. From the opening scene to the last it didn’t just scare me; it made me paranoid. I thought Michael Meyers could be anywhere at any time and Carpeter’s skill as a director and iconic minimalist score added to the dread. Dr. Loomis’ description of Meyers as his patient was chilling. Jamie Lee, Nancy Loomis and PJ Soles created distinctive characters we cared about and wanted to survive. It was over a decade before I could watch it alone and really enjoy it as art but that music still sends a chill through me. 🎃
This video was so good it should be a 60 minutes documentary. I want more! I loved everything you said about the movies and I loved the movies you chose. I would add Pet Sematary, The Stuff and Fire In The Sky and it would be just perfect.
The 90s era scared me the most. Candyman and The Blair Witch Project scared me the most. I still won't say his name in a mirror. The Blair Witch had me scared to go in my backyard at one point.
i like 70s horror movies best. They pushed boundaries and had a more raw storytelling. There was also a lot of experimentaton. Honorable mentions: When a stranger calls, Suspiria and Black Christmas.
I was born in 71 , so i grew up on all these movies. The only movie to actually scare me was the first scary movie i seen,The Exorcist. I'd have to say the 70s and 80s were my favorites. The 90s were good too but I didn't really care for the Blair Witch and then with CGI happening, I lost intrest in most newer horror movies. I prefer to rewatch all my favorites from these three decades.

Great lists. This is the main franchise that transcended these decades :
Alien (1979)
Aliens (1986)
Alien 3 (1992)
Alien Resurrection (1997)
