  • Storage shelves are needed by almost everyone, but not everyone has the ability to transport them easily. So I designed a set of simple shelves that can easily be taken down and moved very quickly. So whether you are a contractor needing storage during a build, or you live in apartment and need something you can take down easily, this set of storage shelves should make you very happy.
Some people may refer to these as "knockdown shelves" because they have the ability to be assembled and disassembled very quickly.
But the best part of this shelving unit is the ability to assemble without any tools.

I am looking forward to seeing the real deal, but I LOVE the suggestion of doing units that can be put together in whatever combo! Some wider for the base, some narrower for stacking higher, allowing for a work space, or a larger piece of equipment, maybe with a “hutch” above it. Great and endless possibilities with units!!! Terrific concept you have!!

Seems like it would work in full size, as a thought on the full size unit a couple more "legs" that would sit on top of the shelf in the back (horizontally like a lip) would add additional bracing to prevent racking (and keep things from falling off the back) and still would allow for tool-less assembly and disassembly.

Yeah, diagonal bracing or just add a back and sides. It's amazing how well the cheap cardboard/hardboard that comes with Ikea shelves works to stabilize the unit.

You could put a diagonal brace across the back, and one on the side to minimize racking.
1/2" ply should be sufficient for a full-size unit. I have several full-size ones, and they are plenty rigid, ( with the cross braces )

Absolutely deserves to be made in full size.

Lo e the idea and would love to see a full (or maybe half-size) build. Maybe some extra support like metal bars that can be inserted/removed can add some extra stability and support but I think this can absolutely work

I would love to see how it would work out full size. If it actually worked, That would be something that I could use in my apartment.😊

Should be more stable with the added mass. you could also install threaded inserts to with bolts to improve stability and stil allow it to be a knockdown shelf

Nice idea for a knockdown shelf, but instead of this you could build it in a more traditional fashion and use t nuts and bolts to assemble it instead of wood screws so you could still take it apart and move it around.
Something that could improve this design a bit is if you made individual stacking units. That way if your needs change and you need something shorter/wider, or could use smaller shelves in different places you could easily rearrange or divide up the shelves to suit your needs.

Thank you for the ideas. I will dig a little deeper into the stackable shelf suggestion. That sounds very doable.

Love the idea SL. For the top, you could even lengthen the legs. Could even sink some screws into the legs that are easily removable for stabilization. Just a thought.
I would personally say that 3/4" ply is way too much overkill. 1/2" would be sufficient. Could even put a center brace in the middle (obviously center 😂😂😂) for added strength. 2 great shelving units in a row. You're on fire! LOL 🎉🎉🎉

That prototype could be a desk organizer...but I don't know about full scale what it would do.

I usually think your videos give beginners a bunch of good advice. This is one that is going to lead to a lot of disappointment. Simple shelving using more ‘traditional’ techniques and removable fasteners are easy to make and deconstruct if really needed.

Love it. It would be perfect at size it is for small craft storage like on a desk top or work table. I can see it's perfect for 2 oz acrylic paint bottles or ink bottles and stamp storage or even marker storage.
